“Este é o dia que o Senhor fez; regozijemo-nos e alegremo-nos nele. Dai graças ao Senhor, porque ele é bom, porque seu amor dura para sempre.”

2 Meus amados irmãos, considerai motivo de júbilo o fato de passardes por diversas provações;
3 Porquanto sabeis que a prova da vossa fé produz ainda mais perseverança.
4 E a perseverança deve ter plena ação, a fim de que sejais aperfeiçoados e completos, sem que vos falte virtude alguma.
12 Feliz a pessoa que persevera na provação, porquanto, após ter sido aprovada, receberá o prêmio da coroa da vida, que Deus prometeu aos que o amam.
16 Meus amados irmãos, não vos permitais serdes enganados.
17 Toda boa dádiva e todo dom perfeito vêm do Alto, descendo do Pai das luzes, em quem não há mudança nem sombra de mudança.
25 Porém, a pessoa que observa atentamente a lei perfeita, a lei da liberdade, e nela persevera, não sendo ouvinte negligente, mas praticante zeloso, será muito feliz em tudo o que empreender.
27 A religião que Deus, o nosso Pai, aceita como sincera e imaculada é esta: cuidar dos órfãos e das viúvas em suas dificuldades e guardar-se da corrupção do mundo.
2. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
12. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
16. Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
25. Whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
27. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

1 …assim diz o SENHOR que te criou, ó Jacó, e que te formou, ó Israel: Não temas, porque eu te redimi; chamei-te pelo teu nome, tu és meu.

19 Muitas são as aflições do justo, mas o Senhor o livra de todas elas.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
10 …andai dignamente diante do Senhor, agradando-lhe em tudo, frutificando em toda boa obra e crescendo no conhecimento de Deus;
11 sendo fortalecidos com todo o poder, segundo a maravilhosa força da sua glória, para que, com alegria tenhais absoluta constância e firmeza de ânimo;
10 …walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

2 Veio Hanani, um dos meus irmãos, com alguns homens de Judá;
3 E eles me disseram: Os restantes, os que sobreviveram ao exílio e se encontram lá na província, estão em grande miséria e humilhação. As muralhas de Jerusalém continuam em ruínas, e os seus portões foram destruídos pelo fogo.
1 The words of Nehemiah … as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah;
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
5 Então eu disse ao rei: Se for do agrado do rei, e se o teu servo achar graça aos teus olhos, envia-me a Judá, à cidade dos sepulcros de meus pais, para que eu a reedifique.
6 E o rei me disse: … Quanto tempo durará a tua viagem? E quando voltarás? Depois de informá-lo sobre a duração da missão, ele concordou em liberar-me.
11 Então cheguei a Jerusalém,
17 Então eu lhes disse: … venham, e reedifiquemos o muro de Jerusalém, para que não sejamos mais motivo de vergonha.
5 And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.
6 And the king said unto me, … For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
11 So I came to Jerusalem,
17 Then said I unto them, … come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
6 Assim construímos o muro;
7 Quando, porém, Sambalate, Tobias, os árabes, os amonitas e os homens de Asdode foram informados que os trabalhos de restauração nos muros de Jerusalém tinham avançado e que as brechas estavam sendo fechadas, ficaram furiosos.
8 E todos conspiraram juntos para virem e lutarem contra Jerusalém, e para impedi-la.
9 Contudo, oramos ao nosso Deus e montamos guarda contra eles dia e noite, por causa deles.
15 E aconteceu que, quando nossos inimigos ouviram que isso era do nosso conhecimento, e que Deus havia frustrado o conselho deles, todos nós voltamos para o muro, cada um para o seu trabalho.
6 So built we the wall;
7 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, … they were very wroth,
8 And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.
9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
1 E aconteceu que, quando o muro foi edificado, e eu coloquei as portas, e os porteiros, e os cantores, e os levitas foram nomeados,
1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,
1 … todo o povo se reuniu … e falaram ao escriba Esdras para trazer o livro da lei de Moisés,
8 Então leram claramente no livro da lei de Deus,
9 Então Neemias, … disse a todo o povo: Este dia é consagrado ao Senhor vosso Deus; não lamenteis, nem choreis. Pois todo o povo chorou quando ouviu as palavras da lei.
10 Vão para casa, comam e bebam o que tiverem de melhor. E mandem porções aos que não têm nada preparado para si; porque este dia é consagrado ao nosso Senhor; portanto, não vos entristeçais, porque a alegria do Senhor é a vossa força.

10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
17 Porque a nossa leve e momentânea tribulação produz para nós cada vez mais abundantemente uma glória incomparável, de valor eterno;
18 Não atentando nós nas coisas que se veem, mas nas que se não veem; porque as que se veem são temporais, e as que se não veem são eternas.
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
25 Porque vocês estavam desgarrados como ovelhas, mas agora tendes voltado ao Pastor e Bispo das vossas almas.
EOM25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Gratidão é muito mais do que uma expressão verbal de agradecimento. Ações expressam mais gratidão do que palavras.
Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.
O que mais precisamos é da oração do desejo fervoroso de crescimento na graça, expressa em paciência, mansidão, amor e boas ações.
What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds.
Se somos ingratos pela Vida, pela Verdade e pelo Amor, e ainda assim retribuímos graças a Deus por todas as bênçãos, somos insinceros e incorremos na dura censura que nosso Mestre pronuncia aos hipócritas. Nesse caso, a única oração aceitável é colocar o dedo nos lábios e lembrar-nos de nossas bênçãos. Enquanto o coração estiver longe da Verdade e do Amor divinos, não podemos esconder a ingratidão de vidas estéreis.
If we are ungrateful for Life, Truth, and Love, and yet return thanks to God for all blessings, we are insincere and incur the sharp censure our Master pronounces on hypocrites. In such a case, the only acceptable prayer is to put the finger on the lips and remember our blessings. While the heart is far from divine Truth and Love, we cannot conceal the ingratitude of barren lives.
As experiências agudas da crença na suposta vida da matéria, bem como nossas decepções e incessantes aflições, nos levam como crianças cansadas aos braços do Amor divino. Então, começamos a aprender a Vida na Ciência divina.
The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science.
Por meio dos castigos salutares do Amor, somos ajudados a avançar na marcha em direção à retidão, à paz e à pureza, que são os marcos da Ciência.
Through the wholesome chastisements of Love, we are helped onward in the march towards righteousness, peace, and purity, which are the landmarks of Science.
Alcançamos a Ciência do Cristianismo por meio da demonstração da natureza divina; mas neste mundo perverso a bondade "será difamada", e a paciência deve trazer experiência.
We reach the Science of Christianity through demonstration of the divine nature; but in this wicked world goodness will "be evil spoken of," and patience must bring experience.
Seja vigilante, sóbrio e atento. O caminho é reto e estreito, o que leva à compreensão de que Deus é a única Vida. É uma guerra contra a carne, na qual devemos vencer o pecado, a doença e a morte, aqui ou na vida futura — certamente antes de alcançarmos o objetivo do Espírito, ou a vida em Deus.
Be watchful, sober, and vigilant. The way is straight and narrow, which leads to the understanding that God is the only Life. It is a warfare with the flesh, in which we must conquer sin, sickness, and death, either here or hereafter, — certainly before we can reach the goal of Spirit, or life in God.
"Trabalhe pela sua própria salvação" é a exigência da Vida e do Amor, pois para esse fim Deus coopera com você. "Ocupe-se até que eu venha!" Espere pela sua recompensa e "não se canse de fazer o bem". Se seus esforços forem prejudicados por probabilidades assustadoras e você não receber nenhuma recompensa imediata, não volte ao erro, nem se torne um preguiçoso na corrida.
Quando a fumaça da batalha se dissipar, você discernirá o bem que fez e receberá de acordo com o seu merecimento. O amor não se apressa em nos livrar da tentação, pois o Amor significa que seremos provados e purificados.
"Work out your own salvation," is the demand of Life and Love, for to this end God worketh with you. "Occupy till I come!" Wait for your reward, and "be not weary in well doing." If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race.
When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving. Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified.
Pense nisso, caro leitor, pois isso levantará o pano de saco dos seus olhos, e você verá a pomba de asas suaves descendo sobre você. A própria circunstância que seu sentido sofredor considera irada e aflitiva, o Amor pode fazer com que um anjo se acolha desprevenido.
Think of this, dear reader, for it will lift the sackcloth from your eyes, and you will behold the soft-winged dove descending upon you. The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares.
Os efeitos da Ciência Cristã não são tanto vistos, mas sentidos. É a "voz mansa e suave" da Verdade se expressando. Ou nos afastamos dessa expressão, ou a ouvimos e ascendemos mais alto. A disposição de se tornar como uma criança e de deixar o velho pelo novo torna o pensamento receptivo à ideia avançada. A alegria de abandonar os falsos marcos e a alegria de vê-los desaparecer — essa disposição ajuda a precipitar a harmonia suprema. A purificação dos sentidos e do eu é uma prova de progresso. "Bem-aventurados os limpos de coração, porque eles verão a Deus."
The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the "still, small voice" of Truth uttering itself. We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher. Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, — this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
Quem já sentiu a perda da paz humana não adquiriu desejos mais fortes de alegria espiritual? A aspiração pelo bem celestial surge antes mesmo de descobrirmos o que pertence à sabedoria e ao Amor. A perda das esperanças e prazeres terrenos ilumina o caminho ascendente de muitos corações. As dores dos sentidos rapidamente nos informam que os prazeres dos sentidos são mortais e que a alegria é espiritual.
Who that has felt the loss of human peace has not gained stronger desires for spiritual joy? The aspiration after heavenly good comes even before we discover what belongs to wisdom and Love. The loss of earthly hopes and pleasures brightens the ascending path of many a heart. The pains of sense quickly inform us that the pleasures of sense are mortal and that joy is spiritual.
A felicidade do homem não está, portanto, à disposição do sentido físico.
Man's happiness is not, therefore, at the disposal of physical sense.
O pobre coração sofredor precisa do alimento que lhe é devido, como paz, paciência na tribulação e um senso inestimável da bondade amorosa do querido Pai.
The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father's loving-kindness.
O amor inspira, ilumina, designa e guia o caminho. Motivos corretos dão impulso ao pensamento, e força e liberdade à fala e à ação. O amor é sacerdotisa no altar da Verdade. Aguarde pacientemente que o Amor divino se mova sobre as águas da mente mortal e forme o conceito perfeito. A paciência deve "ter sua obra perfeita".
Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action. Love is priestess at the altar of Truth. Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must "have her perfect work."
Esta é a doutrina da Ciência Cristã: que o Amor divino não pode ser privado de sua manifestação, ou objeto; que a alegria não pode ser transformada em tristeza, pois a tristeza não é a mestra da alegria; que o bem jamais pode produzir o mal; que a matéria jamais pode produzir a mente, nem a vida resultar em morte. O homem perfeito — governado por Deus, seu Princípio perfeito — é sem pecado e eterno.
EOMThis is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy; that good can never produce evil; that matter can never produce mind nor life result in death. The perfect man — governed by God, his perfect Principle — is sinless and eternal.
