10. Pois há muitos faladores indisciplinados e vaidosos, e enganadores,
11. Porque a graça de Deus, que trouxe salvação, manifestou-se a todos os homens,
12. Ensinando-nos que, renunciando à impiedade e às paixões mundanas, devemos viver neste mundo sóbria, justa e piedosamente;
13. Aguardando a abençoada esperança e o aparecimento glorioso do grande Deus e nosso Salvador Jesus Cristo,
14. Ele se entregou por nós para nos remir de toda a iniquidade e purificar para si um povo peculiar, zeloso de boas obras.
1. Speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
10. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers,
11. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
3 Assim diz o Senhor: Voltei para Sião e habitarei no meio de Jerusalém; e Jerusalém será chamada cidade da Verdade, e o monte do Senhor dos Exércitos, Monte Santo.
16 Estas são as coisas que vocês devem fazer: Falem a verdade uns aos outros; executai juízo de verdade e de paz nas vossos portóes;
17 e nenhum de vós pense mal no seu coração contra o seu próximo, nem ameis o juramento falso; pois todas estas coisas eu odeio, diz o Senhor.
3 Thus saith the Lord; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts the holy mountain.
16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:
17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord.
10 E houve fome na terra; e Abrão desceu ao Egito para ali peregrinar, pois a fome era severa na terra.
11 E aconteceu que, quando ele se aproximou para entrar no Egito, disse a Sarai, sua mulher: Eis que sei que és uma mulher formosa à vista;
12 Portanto, quando os egípcios te virem, eles dirão: Esta é a esposa dele. E me matarão, mas te manterão viva.
13 Dize, suplico-te, que tu és minha irmã, para que eu possa ficar bem por tua causa, e a minha alma viverá por causa de ti.
14 E aconteceu que, quando Abrão entrou no Egito, os egípcios viram que a mulher era muito formosa.
15 Também os príncipes do Faraó a viram, e a elogiaram diante do Faraó, e a mulher foi levada à casa do Faraó.
16 E ele tratou bem a Abrão por causa dela:
17 E o SENHOR atormentou Faraó e a sua casa com grandes pragas por causa de Sarai, esposa de Abrão.
18 Então Faraó chamou Abrão e disse: "Que é isso que você fez comigo? Por que não me disse que ela era sua esposa?"
19 Por que disseste: Ela é minha irmã? Portanto eu a tomei para ser minha mulher. Agora, pois, eis a tua esposa. Toma-a e vai no teu caminho.
20 E Faraó ordenou aos seus homens com respeito a ele; e eles o mandaram embora, e a sua esposa, e a tudo que ele tinha.
10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake:
17 And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
22 Os lábios mentirosos são abominação ao Senhor, mas os que negociam de forma verdadeira são o seu deleite.
22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.
1 Depois dessas coisas, a palavra do Senhor veio a Abrão numa visão, dizendo: Não temas, Abrão; eu sou o teu escudo, e a tua recompensa será infinitamente grande.
6 E ele creu no SENHOR, e ele lhe atribuiu isto por justiça.
1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
1 Quando Abrão tinha noventa e nove anos, o Senhor apareceu a Abrão e lhe disse:
"Eu sou o Deus Todo-Poderoso; anda diante de mim, e sê perfeito."
5 E não te chamarás mais Abrão, mas o teu nome será Abraão;
9 E Deus disse a Abraão: Portanto, tu guardarás o meu pacto,
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham;
9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore,
1 O que diremos, pois, de Abraão, nosso pai, ter obtido segundo a carne?
3 Pois, o que diz a escritura? Abraão creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi imputado como justiça.
7 Abençoados são aqueles cujas iniquidades são perdoadas, e cujos pecados são cobertos.
8 Abençoados é o homem a quem o Senhor não imputa pecado.
1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
7 Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
1 Rogo-vos, pois, irmãos, pela misericórdia de Deus, que apresenteis os vossos corpos em sacrifício vivo, santo e agradável a Deus, que é o vosso culto razoável.
2 E não sede conformados com este mundo, mas sede transformados pela renovação da vossa mente, para que experimenteis qual é a boa, agradável e perfeita vontade de Deus.
3 Pois eu digo, pela graça que me é dada, para todo mundo que está dentre vós, não pense de si mesmo muito mais do que deveria pensar, senão que pense com sobriedade, assim como Deus tem dado a cada um uma medida de fé.
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
3 Porque, embora andando na carne, não guerreamos segundo a carne:
4 (Pois as armas da nossa guerra não são carnais, mas poderosas em Deus para destruir fortalezas;)
5 Destruindo os argumentos e toda altivez que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e levando cativo todo pensamento à obediência de Cristo;
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
1 Olhei, e eis que o Cordeiro estava em pé sobre o monte Sião, e com ele cento e quarenta e quatro mil, tendo o nome de seu Pai inscrito em suas testas.
3 E eles cantavam como se fosse uma nova canção diante do trono,
4 Estes são os que seguem o Cordeiro para onde quer que Ele vá. Estes foram redimidos dentre os homens, sendo as primícias para Deus e para o Cordeiro.
5 E na sua boca não se achou astúcia porque eles estão sem culpa diante do trono de Deus.
1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne,
4 These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.
2 E vi como que um mar de vidro misturado com fogo; e os que tinham alcançado a vitória sobre a besta, e sobre a sua imagem, e sobre sua marca, e sobre o número do seu nome, estavam em pé sobre o mar de vidro, tendo as harpas de Deus.
3 E eles cantam a canção de Moisés, o servo de Deus, e a canção do Cordeiro, dizendo: Grandes e maravilhosas são tuas obras, Senhor Deus Todo-Poderoso; justos e verdadeiros são os teus caminhos, Tu, Rei de santos.
2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
A honestidade é poder espiritual. A desonestidade é fraqueza humana, que impede o auxílio divino.
Você revela o pecado não para prejudicar, mas para abençoar o homem corpóreo; e uma motivação correta tem sua recompensa.
Honesty is spiritual power. Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help. You uncover sin, not in order to injure, but in order to bless the corporeal man; and a right motive has its reward.
A evasão da verdade prejudica a integridade e te derruba do ápice.
A Ciência Cristã transcende as evidências dos sentidos corporais; mas se você mesmo não transcendeu o pecado, não se congratulará por sua cegueira para o mal ou pelo bem que conhece e desconhece. Uma posição desonesta está longe de ser cristãmente científica. "Quem encobre os seus pecados não prosperará; mas quem os confessa e os abandona alcançará misericórdia."
Procure deixar na mente de cada estudante a forte marca da Ciência divina, um elevado senso das qualificações morais e espirituais necessárias para a cura, sabendo bem que é impossível para o erro, o mal e o ódio alcançarem os grandiosos resultados da Verdade e do Amor. A recepção ou a busca de instruções opostas à Ciência Cristã absoluta sempre impedirá a demonstração científica.
Se o estudante aderir estritamente aos ensinamentos da Ciência Cristã e não se aventurar a infringir suas regras, não poderá deixar de ter sucesso na cura. É da natureza da Ciência Cristã agir corretamente, e nada que não seja a ação correta tem o direito de fazer jus a esse nome.
Evasion of Truth cripples integrity, and casts thee down from the pinnacle.
Christian Science rises above the evidence of the corporeal senses; but if you have not risen above sin yourself, do not congratulate yourself upon your blindness to evil or upon the good you know and do not. A dishonest position is far from Christianly scientific. "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." Try to leave on every student's mind the strong impress of divine Science, a high sense of the moral and spiritual qualifications requisite for healing, well knowing it to be impossible for error, evil, and hate to accomplish the grand results of Truth and Love. The reception or pursuit of instructions opposite to absolute Christian Science must always hinder scientific demonstration.
If the student adheres strictly to the teachings of Christian Science and ventures not to break its rules, he cannot fail of success in healing. It is Christian Science to do right, and nothing short of rightdoing has any claim to the name.
Não existe ciência física, visto que toda a verdade procede da Mente divina. Portanto, a verdade não é humana, nem é uma lei da matéria, pois a matéria não é legisladora. A ciência é uma emanação da Mente divina e somente ela é capaz de interpretar Deus corretamente.
Tem origem espiritual, e não material. É uma palavra divina — o Consolador que conduz a toda a verdade.
There is no physical science, inasmuch as all truth proceeds from the divine Mind. Therefore truth is not human, and is not a law of matter, for matter is not a lawgiver. Science is an emanation of divine Mind, and is alone able to interpret God aright. It has a spiritual, and not a material origin. It is a divine utterance, — the Comforter which leadeth into all truth.
Na Ciência da Cura Mental, é imprescindível ser honesto, pois a vitória reside no que é imutável e correto. Compreender a Deus fortalece a esperança, entroniza a fé na Verdade e confirma as palavras de Jesus: "Eis que estou convosco todos os dias, até o fim do mundo".
In the Science of Mind-healing, it is imperative to be honest, for victory rests on the side of immutable right. To understand God strengthens hope, enthrones faith in Truth, and verifies Jesus' word: "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
Quando Deus cura os doentes ou os pecadores, eles devem reconhecer o grande benefício que a Mente proporcionou. Devem também reconhecer a grande ilusão da mente mortal, quando esta os torna doentes ou pecadores.
Muitos estão dispostos a abrir os olhos das pessoas para o poder do bem que reside na Mente divina, mas não estão tão dispostos a apontar o mal no pensamento humano e expor as maneiras mentais ocultas do mal para praticar a iniquidade.
Por que essa postura retrógrada, visto que a exposição é necessária para evitar o mal? Porque as pessoas gostam mais de você quando você lhes fala de suas virtudes do que quando lhes fala de seus vícios.
When God heals the sick or the sinning, they should know the great benefit which Mind has wrought. They should also know the great delusion of mortal mind, when it makes them sick or sinful. Many are willing to open the eyes of the people to the power of good resident in divine Mind, but they are not so willing to point out the evil in human thought, and expose evil's hidden mental ways of accomplishing iniquity.
Why this backwardness, since exposure is necessary to ensure the avoidance of the evil? Because people like you better when you tell them their virtues than when you tell them their vices.
A crença produz os resultados da crença, e as penalidades que ela acarreta duram enquanto a crença persistir e são inseparáveis dela. O remédio consiste em sondar o problema até a sua raiz, em encontrar e expulsar, pela negação, o erro da crença que produz uma desordem mortal, jamais honrando a crença errônea com o título de lei nem lhe obedecendo. Verdade, Vida e Amor são as únicas exigências legítimas e eternas para o homem, e são legisladores espirituais, que impõem a obediência por meio de estatutos divinos.
Controlado pela inteligência divina, o homem é harmonioso e eterno. Tudo o que é governado por uma crença falsa é discordante e mortal.
Belief produces the results of belief, and the penalties it affixes last so long as the belief and are inseparable from it. The remedy consists in probing the trouble to the bottom, in finding and casting out by denial the error of belief which produces a mortal disorder, never honoring erroneous belief with the title of law nor yielding obedience to it. Truth, Life, and Love are the only legitimate and eternal demands on man, and they are spiritual lawgivers, enforcing obedience through divine statutes.
Controlled by the divine intelligence, man is harmonious and eternal. Whatever is governed by a false belief is discordant and mortal.
Exponha e denuncie as alegações do mal e da doença em todas as suas formas, mas reconheça a sua inexistência. Um pecador não se reforma simplesmente ao ser assegurado de que não pode ser pecador porque não existe pecado.
Para refutar a alegação do pecado, é preciso detectá-lo, remover a máscara, apontar a ilusão, e assim, obter a vitória sobre o pecado e assim provando sua irrealidade. Os doentes não são curados simplesmente declarando que não há doença, mas sim sabendo que ela não existe.
O pecador tem medo de atirar a primeira pedra. Ele pode dizer, como subterfúgio, que o mal é irreal, mas para conhecê-lo, ele precisa demonstrar sua afirmação.
Expose and denounce the claims of evil and disease in all their forms, but realize no reality in them. A sinner is not reformed merely by assuring him that he cannot be a sinner because there is no sin. To put down the claim of sin, you must detect it, remove the mask, point out the illusion, and thus get the victory over sin and so prove its unreality. The sick are not healed merely by declaring there is no sickness, but by knowing that there is none.
A sinner is afraid to cast the first stone. He may say, as a subterfuge, that evil is unreal, but to know it, he must demonstrate his statement.
O mercúrio moral do homem, subindo ou descendo, registra sua capacidade de cura e aptidão para ensinar. Você deve praticar bem o que sabe, e então progredirá proporcionalmente à sua honestidade e fidelidade – qualidades que garantem o sucesso nesta Ciência;
Man's moral mercury, rising or falling, registers his healing ability and fitness to teach. You should practise well what you know, and you will then advance in proportion to your honesty and fidelity, — qualities which insure success in this Science;
Nós nunca precisamos nos desesperar na honestidade de um coração; mas há pouca esperança para aqueles que apenas esporadicamente se deparam com a sua maldade e depois procuram escondê-la. Suas orações são índices que não correspondem ao seu caráter. Eles mantêm comunhão secreta com o pecado, e tais aparências são descritas por Jesus como "semelhantes a sepulcros caiados... cheios... de toda impureza".
We never need to despair of an honest heart; but there is little hope for those who come only spasmodically face to face with their wickedness and then seek to hide it. Their prayers are indexes which do not correspond with their character. They hold secret fellowship with sin, and such externals are spoken of by Jesus as "like unto whited sepulchres ... full ... of all uncleanness."
Para orar corretamente, devemos entrar no quarto e fechar a porta. Devemos calar os lábios e silenciar os sentidos materiais. No santuário silencioso dos anseios sinceros, devemos negar o pecado e invocar a onipresença de Deus. Devemos resolver tomar a nossa cruz e seguir com corações honestos para trabalhar e vigiar em busca de sabedoria, verdade e amor. Devemos "orar sem cessar". Tal oração é atendida na medida em que colocamos nossos desejos em prática.
A ordem do Mestre é que oremos em segredo e que nossas vidas atestem nossa sinceridade.
In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God's allness. We must resolve to take up the cross, and go forth with honest hearts to work and watch for wisdom, Truth, and Love. We must "pray without ceasing." Such prayer is answered, in so far as we put our desires into practice. The Master's injunction is, that we pray in secret and let our lives attest our sincerity.
O sentido espiritual da verdade deve ser conquistado antes que a Verdade possa ser compreendida. Esse sentido só é assimilado quando somos honestos, altruístas, amorosos e mansos.
A semente deve ser semeada no solo de um "coração honesto e bom"; caso contrário, não produzirá muitos frutos, pois o elemento ganancioso da natureza humana a arranca pela raiz.
The spiritual sense of truth must be gained before Truth can be understood. This sense is assimilated only as we are honest, unselfish, loving, and meek. In the soil of an "honest and good heart" the seed must be sown; else it beareth not much fruit, for the swinish element in human nature uproots it.
A experiência deve ser a escola da virtude, e a felicidade humana deve emanar da natureza mais elevada do homem.
Experience should be the school of virtue, and human happiness should proceed from man's highest nature.
Apegue-se à verdade do ser, em contraposição ao erro de que a Vida, a Substância ou a Inteligência podem estar na matéria. Suplique com uma convicção honesta da verdade e uma percepção clara do efeito imutável, infalível e certo da Ciência divina. Então, se a sua fidelidade for metade igual à verdade da sua súplica, você curará os enfermos.
Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter. Plead with an honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unerring, and certain effect of divine Science. Then, if your fidelity is half equal to the truth of your plea, you will heal the sick.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
