3. Damos graças a Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, orando sempre por vós,
9. Por esta razão, nós também, desde o dia em que o ouvimos, não cessamos de orar por vós e de pedir que sejais cheios do pleno conhecimento da sua vontade, em toda a sabedoria e entendimento espiritual;
10. Para que possais andar dignamente diante do Senhor, agradando-lhe em tudo, frutificando em toda boa obra e crescendo no conhecimento de Deus;
11. Fortalecidos com todo o poder, segundo o poder da sua glória, para toda a paciência e longanimidade com gozo;
12. Dando graças ao Pai que nos fez idôneos para participar da herança dos santos na luz;
13. Que nos tirou do poder das trevas e nos transportou para o reino do Filho do seu amor.
3. We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
9. For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11. Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
12. Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
23 Sobre tudo o que se deve guardar, guarda o teu coração, porque dele procedem as saídas da vida.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

3 Eu sou, na verdade, um homem judeu, nascido em Tarso, cidade da Cilícia, mas criado nesta cidade aos pés de Gamaliel, instruído conforme a perfeição da lei dos nossos pais, e zeloso para com Deus, como todos vós o sois hoje.
5 Recebi cartas para os irmãos e fui a Damasco, para levar presos a Jerusalém os que ali estivessem, para serem castigados.
6 E aconteceu que, enquanto eu caminhava e já estava perto de Damasco, por volta do meio-dia, de repente uma grande luz do céu brilhou ao meu redor.
7 E caí por terra, e ouvi uma voz que me dizia: Saulo, Saulo, por que me persegues?
8 E eu respondi: Quem és tu, Senhor? E ele me disse: Eu sou Jesus de Nazaré, a quem tu persegues.
10 E eu disse: Que farei, Senhor? E o Senhor me disse: Levanta-te e vai a Damasco, e lá te será dito tudo o que te é ordenado fazer.
11 E, não podendo eu ver por causa do esplendor daquela luz, guiado pela mão dos que estavam comigo, cheguei a Damasco.
12 E um certo Ananias, homem piedoso conforme a lei, que tinha bom testemunho de todos os judeus que ali moravam,
13 Veio ter comigo, parou e disse-me: Irmão Saulo, recupere a vista. E naquela mesma hora o vi.
14 E disse: O Deus de nossos pais te escolheu para que conheças a sua vontade, e vejas aquele Justo, e ouças a voz da sua boca.
15 Porque hás de ser sua testemunha para com todos os homens do que tens visto e ouvido.
3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
5 I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.
11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
1 E aconteceu que em Icônio foram ambos juntos à sinagoga dos judeus, e falaram de tal maneira que creu uma grande multidão, tanto de judeus como de gregos.
2 Mas os judeus incrédulos instigaram os gentios e os irritaram contra os irmãos.
19 Chegaram ali alguns judeus de Antioquia e de Icônio e, tendo persuadido o povo, apedrejaram a Paulo e o arrastaram para fora da cidade, cuidando que estivesse morto.
20 Mas, como os discípulos o rodeassem, ele se levantou e foi para a cidade. No dia seguinte, partiu com Barnabé para Derbe.
1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.
2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
7 E no primeiro dia da semana, tendo-se reunido os discípulos para partir o pão, Paulo, que havia de partir no dia seguinte, pregava entre eles; e continuou a falar até à meia-noite.
8 E havia muitas luzes no cenáculo onde estavam reunidos.
9 E estava sentado numa janela um certo jovem chamado Êutico, caído em profundo sono; e, prolongando-se a pregação de Paulo, afundou-se no sono, caiu do terceiro andar e foi levantado morto.
10 E Paulo, descendo, lançou-se sobre ele e, abraçando-o, disse: Não vos perturbeis, porque a sua alma está nele.
11 Então, tendo subido outra vez, partiu o pão, comeu e falou ainda largamente até o romper do dia; então partiu.
12 E trouxeram vivo o jovem, e ficaram muito consolados.
7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
1 E quando foi determinado que navegaríamos para a Itália,
2 E, entrando num navio de Adramítio, lançamo-nos,
14 …não muito tempo depois, surgiu contra ela um vento tempestuoso, chamado Euroclydon.
20 E, não aparecendo nem sol nem estrelas por muitos dias, e caindo sobre nós uma grande tempestade, toda a esperança de sermos salvos desapareceu.
21 Mas, depois de longa abstinência, Paulo se levantou no meio deles e disse:
22 Rogo-vos que tenhais bom ânimo, porque não se perderá a vida de ninguém entre vós, mas somente o navio.
23 Pois esta noite o anjo de Deus, de quem eu sou e a quem sirvo, esteve comigo.
24 Dizendo: Não temas, Paulo; importa que sejas apresentado a César; e eis que Deus te deu todos os que navegam contigo.
25 Portanto, senhores, tende bom ânimo, porque creio em Deus que há de acontecer como me foi dito.
44 E aconteceu que todos eles escaparam em segurança para terra.
1 And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy,
2 And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched,
14 …not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said,
22 I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.
23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
44 And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
1 E quando escaparam, souberam que a ilha se chamava Melita.
2 E os bárbaros nos mostraram muita bondade, pois acenderam uma fogueira e nos acolheram a todos, por causa da chuva que caía e por causa do frio.
3 E, tendo Paulo ajuntado um feixe de gravetos e posto no fogo, uma víbora, fugindo do calor, agarrou-se à sua mão.
5 E ele sacudiu o animal no fogo, e não sentiu nenhum dano.
30 E Paulo morou dois anos inteiros na casa que alugou, e recebia todos os que vinham vê-lo.
31 Pregando o reino de Deus e ensinando as coisas concernentes ao Senhor Jesus Cristo, com toda a liberdade, sem impedimento algum.
1 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2 And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
30 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
17 Portanto, se alguém está em Cristo, nova criatura é; as coisas velhas já passaram; eis que tudo se fez novo.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
A salvação universal depende da progressão e da provação, e é inatingível sem elas.
Universal salvation rests on progression and probation, and is unattainable without them.
"Desenvolvei a vossa salvação com temor e tremor", diz o apóstolo, e logo acrescenta: "porque Deus é quem efetua em vós tanto o querer como o efetuar, segundo a sua boa vontade" (Filipenses 2:12, 13). A Verdade forneceu a chave para o reino, e com essa chave a Ciência Cristã abriu a porta do entendimento humano. Ninguém pode arrombar a fechadura nem entrar por outra porta.
"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling," says the apostle, and he straightway adds: "for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Philippians ii. 12, 13). Truth has furnished the key to the kingdom, and with this key Christian Science has opened the door of the human understanding. None may pick the lock nor enter by some other door.
Cada dia nos impõe exigências por provas mais elevadas, em vez de profissões de poder cristão. Essas provas consistem unicamente na destruição do pecado, da doença e da morte pelo poder do Espírito, assim como Jesus os destruiu. Este é um elemento do progresso, e o progresso é a lei de Deus, cuja lei exige de nós apenas o que podemos certamente cumprir.
Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil.
Indivíduos consistentes são aqueles que, vigiando e orando, conseguem "correr e não se cansar; ... andar e não desfalecer", que alcançam o bem rapidamente e se mantêm em sua posição, ou alcançam-no lentamente e não se entregam ao desânimo. Deus exige perfeição, mas não antes que a batalha entre o Espírito e a carne seja travada e a vitória conquistada. Parar de comer, beber ou se vestir materialmente antes que os fatos espirituais da existência sejam conquistados passo a passo não é legítimo. Quando esperamos pacientemente em Deus e buscamos a Verdade com retidão, Ele direciona nosso caminho. Mortais imperfeitos alcançam lentamente o ápice da perfeição espiritual; mas começar corretamente e continuar a luta para demonstrar o grande problema do ser é fazer muito.
Durante as eras sensuais, a Ciência Cristã absoluta pode não ser alcançada antes da mudança chamada morte, pois não temos o poder de demonstrar o que não compreendemos. Mas o ser humano precisa ser evangelizado. Deus exige que aceitemos essa tarefa com amor hoje, abandonemos o material o mais rápido possível e desenvolvamos o espiritual que determina o exterior e o real.
Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can "run, and not be weary; ... walk, and not faint," who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement. God requires perfection, but not until the battle between Spirit and flesh is fought and the victory won. To stop eating, drinking, or being clothed materially before the spiritual facts of existence are gained step by step, is not legitimate. When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path. Imperfect mortals grasp the ultimate of spiritual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to continue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of being, is doing much.
During the sensual ages, absolute Christian Science may not be achieved prior to the change called death, for we have not the power to demonstrate what we do not understand. But the human self must be evangelized. This task God demands us to accept lovingly to-day, and to abandon so fast as practical the material, and to work out the spiritual which determines the outward and actual.
O autor curou doenças orgânicas irremediáveis e ressuscitou os moribundos através da compreensão de Deus como a única Vida. É pecado acreditar que algo possa sobrepujar a Vida onipotente e eterna, e essa Vida deve ser trazida à luz pela compreensão de que não existe morte, bem como por outras graças do Espírito. Devemos começar, no entanto, com as demonstrações mais simples de controle, e quanto mais cedo começarmos, melhor.
The author has healed hopeless organic disease, and raised the dying to life and health through the understanding of God as the only Life. It is a sin to believe that aught can overpower omnipotent and eternal Life, and this Life must be brought to light by the understanding that there is no death, as well as by other graces of Spirit. We must begin, however, with the more simple demonstrations of control, and the sooner we begin the better.
O progresso nasce da experiência. É o amadurecimento do homem mortal, através do qual o mortal é abandonado em favor do imortal. Seja aqui ou na vida futura, o sofrimento ou a Ciência devem destruir todas as ilusões relativas à vida e à mente, e regenerar o sentido material e o eu. O velho homem com suas ações deve ser despojado. Nada sensual ou pecaminoso é imortal. A morte de um falso sentido material e do pecado, não a morte da matéria orgânica, é o que revela o homem e a Vida, harmoniosos, reais e eternos.
Progress is born of experience. It is the ripening of mortal man, through which the mortal is dropped for the immortal. Either here or hereafter, suffering or Science must destroy all illusions regarding life and mind, and regenerate material sense and self. The old man with his deeds must be put off. Nothing sensual or sinful is immortal. The death of a false material sense and of sin, not the death of organic matter, is what reveals man and Life, harmonious, real, and eternal.
O homem é mais do que uma forma material com uma mente interior, que precisa escapar de seus ambientes para ser imortal. O homem reflete o infinito, e esse reflexo é a verdadeira ideia de Deus.
Deus expressa no homem a ideia infinita que se desenvolve para sempre, ampliando-se e elevando-se cada vez mais a partir de uma base ilimitada.
Man is more than a material form with a mind inside, which must escape from its environments in order to be immortal. Man reflects infinity, and this reflection is the true idea of God.
God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.
Alegria em abandonar os falsos marcos e alegria em vê-los desaparecer — essa disposição ajuda a precipitar a harmonia suprema. A purificação dos sentidos e do eu é prova de progresso. "Bem-aventurados os puros de coração, porque eles verão a Deus."
O caminho é reto e estreito, o que leva à compreensão de que Deus é a única Vida. É uma guerra contra a carne, na qual devemos vencer o pecado, a doença e a morte, aqui ou na vida futura — certamente antes de alcançarmos o objetivo do Espírito, ou a vida em Deus.
Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, — this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
The way is straight and narrow, which leads to the understanding that God is the only Life. It is a warfare with the flesh, in which we must conquer sin, sickness, and death, either here or hereafter, — certainly before we can reach the goal of Spirit, or life in God.
Assim como a morte encontra o homem mortal, assim ele será após a morte, até que a provação e o crescimento efetuem a mudança necessária. A mente nunca se torna pó. Nenhuma ressurreição da sepultura aguarda a Mente ou a Vida, pois a sepultura não tem poder sobre nenhuma delas.
Nenhum julgamento final aguarda os mortais, pois o dia do julgamento da sabedoria chega a cada hora e continuamente, o julgamento pelo qual o homem mortal é despojado de todo erro material.
As death findeth mortal man, so shall he be after death, until probation and growth shall effect the needed change. Mind never becomes dust. No resurrection from the grave awaits Mind or Life, for the grave has no power over either.
No final judgment awaits mortals, for the judgment-day of wisdom comes hourly and continually, even the judgment by which mortal man is divested of all material error.
Nosso Mestre disse: "Mas o Consolador... vos ensinará todas as coisas". Quando a Ciência do Cristianismo aparecer, ela vos conduzirá a toda a verdade. O Sermão da Montanha é a essência dessa Ciência, e a vida eterna, não a morte de Jesus, é o seu resultado.
Aqueles que estão dispostos a deixar suas redes ou lançá-las para o lado certo em busca da Verdade têm a oportunidade agora, como antes, de aprender e praticar a cura cristã. As Escrituras a contêm. O significado espiritual da Palavra confere esse poder. Mas, como diz Paulo: "Como ouvirão, se não houver quem pregue? E como pregarão, se não forem enviados?" Se enviados, como pregarão, converterão e curarão multidões, se não ouvirem?
Our Master said, "But the Comforter ... shall teach you all things." When the Science of Christianity appears, it will lead you into all truth. The Sermon on the Mount is the essence of this Science, and the eternal life, not the death of Jesus, is its outcome.
Those, who are willing to leave their nets or to cast them on the right side for Truth, have the opportunity now, as aforetime, to learn and to practice Christian healing. The Scriptures contain it. The spiritual import of the Word imparts this power. But, as Paul says, "How shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach, except they be sent?" If sent, how shall they preach, convert, and heal multitudes, except the people hear?
Se você lançar seu barco nas águas sempre agitadas, mas saudáveis, da verdade, encontrará tempestades. Seu bem será maltratado. Esta é a cruz. Pegue-a e carregue-a, pois por meio dela você vence e usa a coroa. Peregrino na terra, teu lar é o céu; estrangeiro, tu és o hóspede de Deus.
If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms. Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it you win and wear the crown. Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God.
Pela vitória sobre um único pecado, damos graças e engrandecemos o Senhor dos Exércitos. O que diremos da poderosa vitória sobre todo pecado? Um cântico mais alto, mais doce do que jamais alcançou os céus, agora se eleva mais claro e mais próximo do grande coração de Cristo; pois o acusador não está mais lá, e o Amor emite seu som primordial e eterno.
For victory over a single sin, we give thanks and magnify the Lord of Hosts. What shall we say of the mighty conquest over all sin? A louder song, sweeter than has ever before reached high heaven, now rises clearer and nearer to the great heart of Christ; for the accuser is not there, and Love sends forth her primal and everlasting strain.
O Ser é santidade, harmonia, imortalidade. Já está provado que o conhecimento disso, mesmo em pequena escala, elevará o padrão físico e moral dos mortais, aumentará a longevidade, purificará e elevará o caráter. Assim, o progresso destruirá finalmente todo o erro e trará à luz a imortalidade.
Being is holiness, harmony, immortality. It is already proved that a knowledge of this, even in small degree, will uplift the physical and moral standard of mortals, will increase longevity, will purify and elevate character. Thus progress will finally destroy all error, and bring immortality to light.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
