“The Lord is the true God, he is the living God. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.”
22. Eis que Deus exalta pelo Seu poder; quem ensina como Ele?
24. Lembra-te de exaltar a sua obra, que os homens contemplam.
25. Todo homem pode vê-la; de lugares distantes os homens as contemplam.
5. A voz de Deus surge maravilhosamente na imensidão como muitos trovões; só ele realiza obras magníficas, muito acima do nosso entendimento.
3. Agora, pois, prepara-te como homem; porquanto Eu te questionarei, e tu me responderás!
4. Onde estavas tu quando eu lancei os fundamentos da terra? Dize-nos, se tens entendimento.
5. Quem determinou as medidas da terra, se é que você o sabe? Ou quem estendeu sobre ela uma linha de medir?
7. Quando as estrelas da manhã juntas cantavam, e todos os filhos de Deus gritavam de alegria?
22. Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?
24. Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.
25. Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.
5. God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
3. Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
7. When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
6 Pela palavra do Senhor foram feitos os céus, e todo o seu exército pelo sopro da Sua boca.
9 Pois Ele falou, e tudo se fez; Ele ordenou, e tudo passou a existir..
6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
1 …aconteceu que o Senhor falou a Josué, filho de Num, ministro de Moisés, dizendo:
2 …levanta-te, atravessa este Jordão, tu e todo este povo, entre na terra que eu vou dar aos filhos de Israel
3 Todo lugar que a planta do vosso pé pisar, eu darei a vocês, como prometi a Moisés.
5 Ninguém poderá resistir a ti, todos os dias da tua vida; assim como estive com Moisés, estarei contigo; não te deixarei, nem te desampararei.
9 Sê forte e corajoso; não temas, nem te assustes, porque o Senhor teu Deus estará com você por onde quer que você andar.
1 …it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,
2 …arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
9 Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
1 Ora, quando Adoni-Zedeque, rei de Jerusalém, ouviu como Josué havia tomado Ai, destruindo-a completamente; assim como fizera com Jericó e seu rei, também fizera com Ai e seu rei; e como os habitantes de Gibeão haviam feito paz com Israel e estavam entre eles;
3 Por isso, Adoni-Zedeque, rei de Jerusalém, enviou mensageiros a Hoão, rei de Hebrom, a Pirão, rei de Jarmute, a Jafia, rei de Láquis, e a Debir, rei de Eglom, dizendo:
4 Venham até mim e ajudem-me, para que possamos derrotar Gibeão, pois ela fez paz com Josué e com os filhos de Israel.
5 Portanto, os cinco reis amorreus, … reuniram-se, subiram, eles e todos os seus exércitos, e acamparam diante de Gibeão, e atacaram a cidade.
6 Então os homens de Gibeão enviaram mensageiros a Josué, no acampamento em Gilgal, dizendo: Não solte a mão aos seus servos; suba depressa, salve-nos e ajude-nos, porque todos os reis amorreus que habitam nas montanhas se reuniram contra nós.
8 Então o Senhor disse a Josué: Não os temas, porque Eu os entreguei nas tuas mãos; nenhum deles resistirá diante de ti.
9 Josué os atacou de repente, depois de haver marchado toda a noite, desde Guilgal.
10 E o Senhor os desampararam diante de Israel,
12 Então Josué falou ao SENHOR no dia em que o SENHOR entregou os amorreus nas mãos dos filhos de Israel, e disse na presença de Israel: Sol, detém-te sobre Gibeão; e tu, Lua, sobre o vale de Aijalom.
13 E o sol parou, e a lua se deteve, até que o povo se vingou de seus inimigos.
… Assim, o sol parou no meio do céu e não se apressou a pôr-se por quase um dia inteiro.
14 E nunca houve dia semelhante a esse, nem antes nem depois, em que o Senhor tivesse ouvido a voz de um homem; porque o SENHOR lutava por Israel.
1 Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
3 Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,
4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, … gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.
6 And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
8 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
9 Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.
10 And the Lord discomfited them before Israel,
12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. … So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.
14 …fiquem de pé e considerem as maravilhas de Deus.
23 Quanto ao Todo-Poderoso, não podemos compreendê-lo: ele é excelente em poder, em juízo e em abundância de justiça; ele não oprime ninguém.
14 …stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
23 Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.
5 Nos dias de Herodes, rei da Judeia, havia um sacerdote chamado Zacarias, da ordem de Abias; sua mulher era descendente de Arão e chamava-se Isabel.
6 Ambos eram justos diante de Deus, vivendo de forma irrepreensível em todos os preceitos e mandamentos do Senhor.
7 E não tiveram filhos, porque Isabel era estéril, e os dois já tinham idade avançada.
8 E aconteceu que, enquanto Zacarias exercia o sacerdócio diante de Deus na ordem do seu turno, que lhe coube por sorteio,
9 De acordo com o costume do ofício sacerdotal, cabia a ele queimar incenso quando entrasse no templo do Senhor.
11 E apareceu-lhe um anjo do Senhor, em pé à direita do altar do incenso.
12 Quando Zacarias o viu, ficou perturbado e o medo o dominou.
13 Mas o anjo lhe disse: Não temas, Zacarias, porque a tua oração foi ouvida; e Isabel, tua mulher, te dará um filho, e lhe porás o nome de João.
14 Você ficará alegre e feliz; e muitos se alegrarão com o seu nascimento.
15 Pois ele será grande aos olhos do Senhor,
19 Eu sou Gabriel, estou a serviço de Deus, e fui enviado para falar contigo e anunciar-te estas boas novas.
24 Depois daqueles dias, Isabel, sua mulher, concebeu e se escondeu por cinco meses, dizendo:
25 Assim me tratou o Senhor nos dias em que olhou para mim, para tirar o meu embaraço perante os homens.
26 No sexto mês, o anjo Gabriel foi enviado por Deus a uma cidade da Galileia, chamada Nazaré,
27 À virgem desposada com um homem cujo nome era José, da casa de Davi; e o nome da virgem era Maria.
28 Então o anjo entrou onde ela estava e disse: Salve, agraciada! O Senhor está contigo; bendita és tu entre as mulheres.
31 Eis que conceberás no teu ventre, e darás à luz um filho, e chamarás o seu nome JESUS.
36 E eis que também Isabel, tua prima, concebeu um filho na sua velhice; e este é o sexto mês para aquela que era considerada estéril.
37 Porque para Deus nada é impossível.
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judæa, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were not well stricken in years.
8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,
9 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord,
19 I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
11 Alegrai-vos no Senhor e entusiasmem-se; e exultai, todos vós que sois retos de coração.
11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
13 Aquele que cria e da forma aos montes, e cria o vento, e declara ao homem qual é o seu pensamento, que transforma a manhã em trevas, e pisa sobre as montanhas da terra, o SENHOR, o Deus dos Exércitos, é o seu nome.
13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name.
As Escrituras nos informam que "para Deus tudo é possível" — todo o bem é possível ao Espírito;
Scripture informs us that "with God all things are possible," — all good is possible to Spirit;
A ciência revela a possibilidade de alcançar todo o bem e põe os mortais a trabalhar para descobrir o que Deus já fez;
Science reveals the possibility of achieving all good, and sets mortals at work to discover what God has already done;
A Ciência Cristã explica toda causa e efeito como sendo mental, não física. Ela levanta o véu do mistério da Alma e do corpo. Mostra a relação científica do homem com Deus, desvenda as ambiguidades intrincadas do ser e liberta o pensamento aprisionado. Na Ciência divina, o universo, incluindo o homem, é espiritual, harmonioso e eterno.
Christian Science explains all cause and effect as mental, not physical. It lifts the veil of mystery from Soul and body. It shows the scientific relation of man to God, disentangles the interlaced ambiguities of being, and sets free the imprisoned thought. In divine Science, the universe, including man, is spiritual, harmonious, and eternal.
O princípio criativo — Vida, Verdade e Amor — é Deus. O universo reflete Deus. Há apenas um criador e uma criação. Essa criação consiste no desdobramento de ideias espirituais e suas identidades, que são acolhidas na Mente infinita e refletidas para sempre.
The creative Principle — Life, Truth, and Love — is God. The universe reflects God. There is but one creator and one creation. This creation consists of the unfolding of spiritual ideas and their identities, which are embraced in the infinite Mind and forever reflected.
No universo da Verdade, a matéria é desconhecida. Nenhuma suposição de erro entra ali. A Ciência Divina, a Palavra de Deus, diz à escuridão que se apresenta diante do erro: "Deus é Tudo em tudo", e a luz do Amor sempre presente ilumina o universo. Daí a eterna maravilha: que o espaço infinito seja povoado pelas ideias de Deus, refletindo-O em inúmeras formas espirituais.
In the universe of Truth, matter is unknown. No supposition of error enters there. Divine Science, the Word of God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, "God is All-in-all," and the light of ever-present Love illumines the universe. Hence the eternal wonder, — that infinite space is peopled with God's ideas, reflecting Him in countless spiritual forms.
A Mente, suprema sobre todas as suas formações e governando a todas elas, é o sol central de seus próprios sistemas de ideias, a vida e a luz de toda a sua vasta criação; e o homem é tributário da Mente divina.
O mundo entraria em colapso sem a Mente, sem a inteligência que controla os ventos. Nem a filosofia nem o ceticismo podem deter o avanço da Ciência que revela a supremacia da Mente. A percepção imanente do poder da Mente realça a glória da Mente. A proximidade, e não a distância, confere encanto a essa visão.
Os minerais compostos ou as substâncias agregadas que compõem a Terra, as relações entre as massas constituintes que se mantêm entre si. As magnitudes, distâncias e revoluções dos corpos celestes, não têm importância real, quando nos lembramos de que todos eles devem dar lugar ao fato espiritual, pela tradução do homem e do universo de volta ao Espírito. Na proporção em que isso for feito, o homem e o universo serão
considerados harmoniosos e eternos.
Substâncias materiais ou formações mundanas, cálculos astronômicos e toda a parafernália de teorias especulativas, baseadas na hipótese de leis materiais ou vida e inteligência residentes na matéria, acabarão por desaparecer, engolidas pelo cálculo infinito do Espírito.
Mind, supreme over all its formations and governing them all, is the central sun of its own systems of ideas, the life and light of all its own vast creation; and man is tributary to divine Mind.
The world would collapse without Mind, without the intelligence which holds the winds in its grasp. Neither philosophy nor skepticism can hinder the march of the Science which reveals the supremacy of Mind. The immanent sense of Mind-power enhances the glory of Mind. Nearness, not distance, lends enchantment to this view.
The compounded minerals or aggregated substances composing the earth, the relations which constituent masses hold to each other, the magnitudes, distances, and revolutions of the celestial bodies, are of no real importance, when we remember that they all must give place to the spiritual fact by the translation of man and the universe back into Spirit. In proportion as this is done, man and the universe will be found harmonious and eternal.
Material substances or mundane formations, astronomical calculations, and all the paraphernalia of speculative theories, based on the hypothesis of material law or life and intelligence resident in matter, will ultimately vanish, swallowed up in the infinite calculus of Spirit.
O movimento e a posição da Terra são sustentados unicamente pela Mente.
The earth's motion and position are sustained by Mind alone.
Existe apenas uma atração verdadeira, a do Espírito. O apontar da agulha para o polo simboliza esse poder abrangente ou a atração de Deus, a Mente divina.
Os planetas não têm mais poder sobre o homem do que sobre o seu Criador, visto que Deus governa o universo; mas o homem, refletindo o poder de Deus, tem domínio sobre toda a Terra e seus hospedeiros.
There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit. The pointing of the needle to the pole symbolizes this all-embracing power or the attraction of God, divine Mind.
The planets have no more power over man than over his Maker, since God governs the universe; but man, reflecting God's power, has dominion over all the earth and its hosts.
…a planta cresce, não por causa da semente ou do solo, mas porque o crescimento é o mandato eterno da Mente. O pensamento mortal cai por terra, mas o pensamento criador imortal vem de cima, não de baixo. Como a Mente cria tudo, não resta nada para ser criado por um poder inferior. O Espírito age através da Ciência da Mente, jamais fazendo com que o homem lavre a terra, mas tornando-o superior ao solo. O conhecimento disso eleva o homem acima da terra, acima da terra e seus ambientes, à harmonia espiritual consciente e ao ser eterno.
…the plant grows, not because of seed or soil, but because growth is the eternal mandate of Mind. Mortal thought drops into the ground, but the immortal creating thought is from above, not from beneath. Because Mind makes all, there is nothing left to be made by a lower power. Spirit acts through the Science of Mind, never causing man to till the ground, but making him superior to the soil. Knowledge of this lifts man above the sod, above earth and its environments, to conscious spiritual harmony and eternal being.
Se orarmos a Deus como uma pessoa corpórea, isso nos impedirá de abandonar as dúvidas e os medos humanos que acompanham tal crença, e assim não poderemos compreender as maravilhas operadas pelo Amor infinito e incorpóreo, para quem todas as coisas são possíveis.
If we pray to God as a corporeal person, this will prevent us from relinquishing the human doubts and fears which attend such a belief, and so we cannot grasp the wonders wrought by infinite, incorporeal Love, to whom all things are possible.
O milagre não introduz desordem, mas revela a ordem primordial, estabelecendo a Ciência da lei imutável de Deus. Somente a evolução espiritual é digna do exercício do poder divino.
The miracle introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order, establishing the Science of God's unchangeable law. Spiritual evolution alone is worthy of the exercise of divine power.
No Egito, foi a Mente que salvou os israelitas da crença nas pragas. No deserto, rios jorravam da rocha e o maná caía do céu. Os israelitas olharam para a serpente de bronze e imediatamente creram que estavam curados das picadas venenosas das víboras.
Na prosperidade nacional, milagres acompanharam os sucessos dos hebreus; mas quando se afastaram da verdadeira ideia, a desmoralização começou. Mesmo em cativeiro entre nações estrangeiras, o Princípio divino operou maravilhas para o povo de Deus na fornalha ardente e nos palácios dos reis.
In Egypt, it was Mind which saved the Israelites from belief in the plagues. In the wilderness, streams flowed from the rock, and manna fell from the sky. The Israelites looked upon the brazen serpent, and straightway believed that they were healed of the poisonous stings of vipers.
In national prosperity, miracles attended the successes of the Hebrews; but when they departed from the true idea, their demoralization began. Even in captivity among foreign nations, the divine Principle wrought wonders for the people of God in the fiery furnace and in kings' palaces.
Os chamados gases e forças materiais são falsificações das forças espirituais da Mente divina, cuja potência é a Verdade, cuja atração é o Amor, cuja adesão e coesão são a Vida, perpetuando os fatos eternos do ser.
A eletricidade é o excesso acentuado da materialidade que falsifica a verdadeira essência da espiritualidade ou da verdade — a grande diferença reside no fato de que a eletricidade não é inteligente, enquanto a verdade espiritual é a Mente.
Não existe fúria "inteligente" da mente mortal — expressando-se em terremotos, ventos, relâmpagos, ondas, fogo, ferocidade bestial — e essa suposta mente se autodestrói.
As manifestações do mal, que falsificam a justiça divina, são chamadas nas Escrituras de "A ira do Senhor". Na realidade, elas mostram a autodestruição do erro ou da matéria e apontam para o oposto da matéria, a força e a permanência do Espírito.
A Ciência Cristã traz à luz a Verdade e sua supremacia, a harmonia universal, a plenitude de Deus, o bem e a inexistência do mal.
The material so-called gases and forces are counterfeits of the spiritual forces of divine Mind, whose potency is Truth, whose attraction is Love, whose adhesion and cohesion are Life, perpetuating the eternal facts of being. Electricity is the sharp surplus of materiality which counterfeits the true essence of spirituality or truth, — the great difference being that electricity is not intelligent, while spiritual truth is Mind.
There is no vapid fury of mortal mind — expressed in earthquake, wind, wave, lightning, fire, bestial ferocity — and this so-called mind is self-destroyed. The manifestations of evil, which counterfeit divine justice, are called in the Scriptures, "The anger of the Lord." In reality, they show the self-destruction of error or matter and point to matter's opposite, the strength and permanency of Spirit. Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil.
Algum dia descobriremos como o Espírito, o Grande Arquiteto, criou homens e mulheres na Ciência.
A Ciência Cristã apresenta o desdobramento, não o acréscimo; ela não manifesta nenhum crescimento material da molécula à mente, mas uma transmissão da Mente divina ao homem e ao universo.
Sometime we shall learn how Spirit, the great architect, has created men and women in Science.
Christian Science presents unfoldment, not accretion; it manifests no material growth from molecule to mind, but an impartation of the divine Mind to man and the universe.
Tudo o que foi criado é obra de Deus, e tudo é bom.
A harmonia e a imortalidade do homem permanecem intactas. Devemos afastar o olhar da suposição oposta, de que o homem foi criado materialmente, e voltar nosso olhar para o registro espiritual da criação, para aquilo que deveria ser gravado no entendimento e no coração "com a ponta de um diamante" e a pena de um anjo.
All that is made is the work of God, and all is good.
The harmony and immortality of man are intact. We should look away from the opposite supposition that man is created materially, and turn our gaze to the spiritual record of creation, to that which should be engraved on the understanding and heart "with the point of a diamond" and the pen of an angel.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
