1 Que toda alma esteja sujeita às autoridades superiores; porque não há autoridade que não venha de Deus; e as autoridades existentes foram ordenadas por Deus.
2 Por isso, quem resiste à autoridade resiste à ordenação de Deus; e os que resistem receberão sobre si mesmos a condenação.
5 Portanto, é necessário que estejais sujeitos, não somente pela ira, mas também por causa da consciência.
8 A nenhum homem devais coisa alguma, senão o amar-vos uns aos outros, porque quem ama o próximo cumpre a lei.
9 Por isto: Tu não cometerás adultério, não assassinarás, não furtarás, não darás falso testemunho, não cobiçarás; e, se há algum outro mandamento, tudo se resume nesta palavra: Tu amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo.
10 O Amor não faz mal ao próximo; portanto o Amor é o cumprimento da lei.
1. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
5. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
8. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
14 E, Jesus, saindo, viu uma grande multidão, e movido de compaixão por eles, curou os enfermos.
15 E, chegada a tarde, os seus discípulos aproximaram-se dele, dizendo: O lugar é deserto, e a hora já é passada; despede a multidão, para que indo às aldeias, eles comprem mantimentos.
16 Mas Jesus lhes disse: Eles não precisam partir; dai-lhes vós de comer.
17 E eles lhe disseram: Nós não temos aqui senão cinco pães e dois peixes.
18 Ele disse: Traga-os aqui para mim.
19 E, ordenando a multidão para que se assentasse sobre a relva, tomou os cinco pães e os dois peixes, e, erguendo os olhos ao céu, ele os abençoou, e partindo os pães, deu-os aos seus discípulos, e os discípulos à multidão.
20 E todos comeram e se fartaram; e dos pedaços que sobraram encheram doze cestos cheios.
21 E os que haviam comido eram cerca de cinco mil homens, além de mulheres e crianças.
14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18 He said, Bring them hither to me.
19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
9 Então, Jesus lhes disse:
27 Amai aos vossos inimigos, fazei bem aos que vos odeiam;
28 Abençoai os que vos amaldiçoam, e orai pelos que vos maltratam.
29 Ao que te ferir em uma face, oferece-lhe também a outra; e ao que te tomar a capa, não o proíba de tirar-te a túnica também.
30 Dá para cada homem que te pedir; e aquele que levar os teus bens, não lhe exijas que os devolva.
31 E assim como quereis que os homens vos façam, fazei-lhes também vós o mesmo.
32 Porque, se amardes aos que vos amam, qual é o vosso reconhecimento? Pois os pecadores também amam os que os amam.
33 E se fizerdes bem aos que vos fazem bem, qual é o vosso reconhecimento? Pois os pecadores também fazem o mesmo.
34 E se emprestardes àqueles de quem esperais receber, qual é o vosso reconhecimento? Pois os pecadores também emprestam aos pecadores, para receberem novamente outro tanto.
35 Amai, pois, a vossos inimigos, e fazei bem, e emprestai, sem nada esperardes de volta, e será grande a vossa recompensa, e sereis filhos do Altíssimo; porque ele é bondoso para com os ingratos e para com os maus.
36 Sede, pois, misericordiosos, assim como vosso Pai também é misericordioso.
9 Then said Jesus unto them,
27 Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.
30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
7 Amados, amemo-nos uns aos outros; porque o Amor é de Deus; e qualquer que ama é nascido de Deus e conhece a Deus.
8 Aquele que não ama não conhece a Deus; porque Deus é Amor.
9 Nisto foi manifestado o Amor de Deus para conosco: por esta causa Deus enviou seu Filho unigênito ao mundo, para que pudéssemos viver através dele.
10 Nisto está o Amor, não que nós amamos a Deus, mas em que Ele nos ama, e enviou seu Filho para ser a propiciação pelos nossos pecados.
11 Amados, se Deus assim nos ama, devemos também amar uns aos outros.
12 Ninguém viu a Deus em tempo algum; se amamos uns aos outros, Deus habita em nós, e o seu Amor é aperfeiçoado em nós.
13 Nisto sabemos que habitamos nele, e ele em nós, porque ele nos deu do seu Espírito.
14 E nós vimos e testificamos que o Pai enviou seu Filho para ser o Salvador do mundo.
15 Qualquer que confessar que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, Deus habita nele, e ele em Deus.
16 E nós conhecemos e cremos no Amor que Deus tem para nós. Deus é Amor; e aquele que habita em Amor, habita em Deus, e Deus nele.
17 Nisto o nosso Amor é aperfeiçoado, para que tenhamos ousadia no dia do julgamento; porque, como ele é, assim nós somos também neste mundo.
18 Não há temor no Amor, mas o Amor perfeito lança fora o medo; porque o medo traz tormento. Aquele que teme não é perfeito no Amor.
19 Nós o amamos porque Ele primeiro nos amou.
20 Se um homem diz: Eu amo a Deus, e odeia seu irmão, é mentiroso. Porque se ele não ama seu irmão, a quem viu, como pode amar a Deus, a quem não viu?
21 E este mandamento temos dele: que aquele que ama a Deus, ame também o seu irmão.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
1 Ainda que eu falasse as línguas dos homens e dos anjos, e não tivesse caridade, eu me tornaria como o bronze barulhento ou um címbalo estridente.
2 E ainda que eu tivesse o dom de profecia, e entendesse todos os mistérios, e todo o conhecimento, e ainda que eu tivesse toda a fé, de tal maneira que eu pudesse remover montes e não tivesse caridade, eu nada seria.
3 E ainda que eu distribuísse todos os meus bens para alimentar os pobres, e ainda que eu entregasse o meu corpo para ser queimado, e não tivesse caridade, de nada me aproveitaria.
4 A caridade é paciente e boa; a caridade não é invejosa; a caridade não se vangloria, não se envaidece,
5 Não se comporta indecentemente, não busca os seus interesses, não se irrita facilmente, não pensa mal;
6 Não se alegra com a iniquidade, mas fica feliz com a verdade;
7 suporta todas as coisas; crê em todas as coisas, espera em todas as coisas, suporta todas as coisas.
8 A caridade nunca falha; mas, havendo profecias, elas falharão; havendo línguas, cessarão; havendo conhecimento, desaparecerá.
9 Porque em parte conhecemos, e em parte profetizamos.
10 Mas, quando o que é Perfeito vier, então, o que o é em parte será aniquilado.
11 Quando eu era criança, falava como criança, entendia como criança, pensava como criança; mas quando eu me tornei homem, eu coloquei de lado as coisas infantis.
12 Porque agora vemos através de um espelho, sombriamente; mas então veremos face a face; agora eu conheço em parte, mas então Eu conhecerei como também Eu sou conhecido.
13 E agora permanecem a fé, a esperança e a caridade, estas três; mas a maior destas é a caridade.
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
A parte vital, o coração e a alma da Ciência Cristã, é o Amor.
The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love.
Somente o Amor pode transmitir a ideia ilimitada da Mente infinita.
Love alone can impart the limitless idea of infinite Mind.
A prova de toda oração reside na resposta a estas perguntas:
Amamos mais o nosso próximo por causa desta súplica?
Será que persistimos no velho egoísmo, satisfeitos por termos orado por algo melhor, embora não demos provas da sinceridade de nossos pedidos ao viver em consonância com a nossa oração?
Se o egoísmo tiver dado lugar à bondade, consideraremos o próximo de modo altruísta e abençoaremos aqueles que nos amaldiçoam; mas jamais cumpriremos esse grande dever simplesmente pedindo que ele seja realizado. Há uma cruz a ser tomada antes que possamos desfrutar a realização de nossa esperança e fé.
Amas "o Senhor, teu Deus, de todo o teu coração, de toda a tua alma e de todo o teu entendimento"? Esse mandamento abrange muito, inclusive a renúncia a toda sensação, afeição e adoração meramente materiais. Esse é o Eldorado do Cristianismo.
The test of all prayer lies in the answer to these questions: Do we love our neighbor better because of this asking? Do we pursue the old selfishness, satisfied with having prayed for something better, though we give no evidence of the sincerity of our requests by living consistently with our prayer? If selfishness has given place to kindness, we shall regard our neighbor unselfishly, and bless them that curse us; but we shall never meet this great duty simply by asking that it may be done. There is a cross to be taken up before we can enjoy the fruition of our hope and faith.
Dost thou "love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind"? This command includes much, even the surrender of all merely material sensation, affection, and worship. This is the El Dorado of Christianity.
Com um só Pai, isto é, Deus, toda a família humana seria de irmãos; e com uma só Mente — e essa Mente sendo Deus, ou o bem —, a fraternidade humana consistiria em Amor e Verdade, e teria a unidade de Princípio e o poder espiritual que constituem a Ciência divina.
With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science.
Nosso Mestre expulsava demônios (males) e curava os enfermos. Deveria dizer-se também de seus seguidores que eles expulsam o medo e todo mal de si mesmos e dos outros, e curam os enfermos.
Our Master cast out devils (evils) and healed the sick. It should be said of his followers also, that they cast fear and all evil out of themselves and others and heal the sick.
Deus concede a ideia menor de Si mesmo como um elo com a maior e, em contrapartida, o que é mais elevado sempre protege o que é mais humilde.
Os ricos em espírito ajudam os pobres numa grande fraternidade, tendo todos o mesmo Princípio, ou Pai; e bem-aventurado é o homem que vê a necessidade de seu irmão e a supre, buscando o seu próprio bem no bem do outro.
O Amor confere à ideia espiritual mais humilde poder, imortalidade e bondade, que resplandecem em tudo, tal como a flor resplandece através do botão. Todas as variadas expressões de Deus refletem saúde, santidade, imortalidade — Vida, Verdade e Amor infinitos.
God gives the lesser idea of Himself for a link to the greater, and in return, the higher always protects the lower. The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother's need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another's good. Love giveth to the least spiritual idea might, immortality, and goodness, which shine through all as the blossom shines through the bud. All the varied expressions of God reflect health, holiness, immortality — infinite Life, Truth, and Love.
Pergunta. — Como posso progredir mais rapidamente na compreensão da Ciência Cristã? Resposta. — Estude a fundo a letra e assimile o espírito. Apegue-se ao Princípio divino da Ciência Cristã e siga as ordens de Deus, permanecendo firme na sabedoria, na Verdade e no Amor. Na Ciência da Mente, você logo constatará que o erro não pode destruir o erro. Aprenderá também que, na Ciência, não há transferência de sugestões malignas de um mortal para outro, pois existe apenas uma Mente, e essa Mente onipotente e sempre presente é refletida pelo homem e governa todo o universo. Você aprenderá que, na Ciência Cristã, o primeiro dever é obedecer a Deus, ter uma só Mente e amar o próximo como a si mesmo.
Todos nós devemos aprender que a Vida é Deus. Pergunte a si mesmo: Estou vivendo a vida que se aproxima do bem supremo? Estou demonstrando o poder sanador da Verdade e do Amor? Se assim for, o caminho se tornará mais brilhante "até o dia perfeito". Seus frutos provarão o que a compreensão de Deus traz ao homem. Mantenha sempre este pensamento: é a ideia espiritual — o Espírito Santo e o Cristo — que o capacita a demonstrar, com certeza científica, a regra da cura, baseada em seu Princípio divino, o Amor, que sustenta, sobrepaira e abrange todo o ser verdadeiro.
Question. — How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science?
Answer. — Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit. Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love. In the Science of Mind, you will soon ascertain that error cannot destroy error. You will also learn that in Science there is no transfer of evil suggestions from one mortal to another, for there is but one Mind, and this ever-present omnipotent Mind is reflected by man and governs the entire universe. You will learn that in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself.
We all must learn that Life is God. Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of Truth and Love? If so, then the way will grow brighter "unto the perfect day." Your fruits will prove what the understanding of God brings to man. Hold perpetually this thought, — that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being.
O que mais necessitamos é da oração de desejo fervoroso de crescimento na graça, expressa em paciência, mansidão, Amor e boas obras.
What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds.
Assim vemos, tanto no primeiro quanto no último livro da Bíblia — em Gênesis e no Apocalipse —, que o pecado deve ser reduzido, cristã e cientificamente, ao seu nada original. "Amai-vos uns aos outros" (I João 3:23) é o conselho mais simples e profundo do escritor inspirado. Na Ciência, somos Filhos de Deus; mas tudo o que é do sentido material, ou mortal, não pertence aos Seus filhos, pois a materialidade é a imagem invertida da espiritualidade.
O Amor cumpre a lei da Ciência Cristã, e nada menos do que esse Princípio divino, compreendido e demonstrado, pode jamais proporcionar a visão do Apocalipse, abrir com a Verdade os sete selos
do erro ou desvendar as inúmeras ilusões do pecado, da doença e da morte. Sob a supremacia do Espírito, ver-se-á e reconhecer-se-á que a matéria tem de desaparecer.
Thus we see, in both the first and last books of the Bible, — in Genesis and in the Apocalypse, — that sin is to be Christianly and scientifically reduced to its native nothingness. "Love one another" (I John, iii. 23), is the most simple and profound counsel of the inspired writer. In Science we are children of God; but whatever is of material sense, or mortal, belongs not to His children, for materiality is the inverted image of spirituality.
Love fulfils the law of Christian Science, and nothing short of this divine Principle, understood and demonstrated, can ever furnish the vision of the Apocalypse, open the seven seals of error with Truth, or uncover the myriad illusions of sin, sickness, and death. Under the supremacy of Spirit, it will be seen and acknowledged that matter must disappear.
Aquele que compreende, em grau suficiente, o Princípio da cura pela Mente aponta ao seu aluno tanto o erro quanto a verdade, tanto a prática errada quanto a correta. O Amor a Deus e ao próximo é o verdadeiro incentivo tanto na cura quanto no ensino. O Amor inspira, ilumina, indica e guia o caminho. Motivos corretos dão asas ao pensamento, e força e liberdade à palavra e à ação. O Amor é a sacerdotisa no altar da Verdade. Aguarde pacientemente que o Amor divino se mova sobre as águas da mente mortal e forme o conceito perfeito. A paciência deve "realizar a sua obra perfeita".
He, who understands in sufficient degree the Principle of Mind-healing, points out to his student error as well as truth, the wrong as well as the right practice. Love for God and man is the true incentive in both healing and teaching. Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action. Love is priestess at the altar of Truth. Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must "have her perfect work."
O Princípio divino do Primeiro Mandamento fundamenta a Ciência do ser, pela qual o homem demonstra saúde, santidade e vida eterna. Um Deus infinito, o bem, une homens e nações; constitui a fraternidade humana; põe fim às guerras; cumpre a Escritura: "Ama o teu próximo como a ti mesmo"; aniquila a idolatria pagã e a cristã — tudo o que há de errado nos códigos sociais, civis, criminais, políticos e religiosos; iguala os sexos; anula a maldição sobre o homem e não deixa nada que possa pecar, sofrer, ser punido ou destruído.
The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal. One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself;" annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.
A Ciência Divina, a Palavra de Deus, diz às trevas sobre a face do erro: "Deus é Tudo em todos", e a luz do Amor sempre presente ilumina o universo.
Divine Science, the Word of God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, "God is All-in-all," and the light of ever-present Love illumines the universe.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
