SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
1 O que era desde o princípio, o que ouvimos, o que vimos com os nossos olhos, o que contemplamos e o que as nossas mãos apalparam, a respeito da Palavra da vida;
2 (Pois a Vida se manifestou, e nós a vimos , e dela damos testemunho, e vos anunciamos a vida eterna, que estava com o Pai e a nós foi revelada;)
3 O que vimos e ouvimos, isso vos anunciamos, para que vós também tenhais comunhão conosco; e a nossa comunhão é com o Pai e com seu Filho Jesus Cristo.
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

1 Havia um fariseu chamado Nicodemos, um dos principais líderes dos judeus:
2 O mesmo foi ter com Jesus à noite e lhe disse: Rabi, sabemos que és um mestre vindo de Deus, porque ninguém pode fazer estes sinais que tu fazes, se Deus não estiver com ele.
3 Jesus respondeu: "Em verdade, em verdade Eu lhe digo que, se alguém não nascer de novo, não pode ver o reino de Deus."
4 Nicodemos então lhe disse: Como pode um homem nascer, sendo velho? Pode, porventura, entrar uma segunda vez no ventre de sua mãe e nascer?
5 Jesus respondeu: "Em verdade, em verdade Eu lhe digo que, se alguém não nascer da água e do Espírito, não pode entrar no reino de Deus."
6 O que é nascido da carne é carne; e o que é nascido do Espírito é espírito.
7 Não se admires de Eu lhe haver dito: Necessário vos é nascer de novo.
8 O vento sopra onde quer, você ouve o barulho que ele faz, mas não sabe de onde ele vem, nem para onde ele vai; assim é todo o que é nascido do Espírito..
9 Nicodemos respondeu e disse-lhe: Como pode ser isso?
10 Jesus respondeu: "Você é o mestre de Israel e não entende essas coisas?"
11 Em verdade, em verdade Eu vos digo que falamos do que sabemos e testemunhamos do que vimos; porém vós não aceitais o nosso testemunho.
12 Se eu vos falei de coisas terrenas, e não crestes, como crereis, se eu vos falar das celestiais?
13 E ninguém subiu ao céu, senão Aquele que desceu do céu, o Filho do homem, que está no céu.
14 Assim como Moisés levantou a serpente no deserto, assim também é necessário que o Filho do Homem seja elevado:
15 Para que todo aquele que nEle crê não pereça, mas tenha a vida eterna.
16 Porque Deus amou o mundo de tal maneira que deu o seu Filho unigênito, para que todo aquele que nEle crê não pereça, mas tenha a vida eterna.

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Na casa de meu Pai há muitas moradas; se não fosse assim , eu vo-lo teria dito.
Eu vou preparar um lugar para vocês.
3 E, se Eu for e vos preparar lugar, Eu virei outra vez e vos levarei para mim mesmo, para que, onde Eu estiver, estejais vós também .
4 E vós sabeis para onde Eu vou, e vóis conheceis o caminho.
5 Disse-lhe Tomé: Senhor, não sabemos para onde vais; como, pois, podemos saber o caminho?
6 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida; ninguém vem ao Pai senão por mim.
11 Creiam em mim quando digo que Eu estou no Pai e que o Pai está em mim; ou então creiam por causa das mesmas obras.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Como seguidores da Verdade, consideramos a Palavra inspirada da Bíblia como nosso guia suficiente para a Vida eterna.
As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.
O conhecimento dos textos originais e a disposição para abandonar crenças humanas (estabelecidas por hierarquias e, às vezes, instigadas pelas piores paixões dos homens) abrem caminho para a compreensão da Ciência Cristã e fazem da Bíblia o mapa da vida, onde se apontam as bóias e as correntes curativas da Verdade.
Aquele a quem "o braço do Senhor" for revelado crerá em nossa mensagem e ressuscitará para uma vida nova com regeneração.
Acquaintance with the original texts, and willingness to give up human beliefs (established by hierarchies, and instigated sometimes by the worst passions of men), open the way for Christian Science to be understood, and make the Bible the chart of life, where the buoys and healing currents of Truth are pointed out.
He to whom "the arm of the Lord" is revealed will believe our report, and rise into newness of life with regeneration.
"Esta é a vida eterna", diz Jesus — " é " , não " será "; e então ele define a vida eterna como um conhecimento presente de seu Pai e de si mesmo — o conhecimento do Amor, da Verdade e da Vida. "This is life eternal," says Jesus, — is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge of his Father and of himself, — the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life. "This is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent." The Scriptures say, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God," showing that Truth is the actual life of man; but mankind objects to making this teaching practical.
Caminhamos nos passos da Verdade e do Amor seguindo o exemplo de nosso Mestre na compreensão da metafísica divina. O cristianismo é a base da verdadeira cura. Tudo aquilo que alinha o pensamento humano com o amor altruísta recebe diretamente o poder divino.
Fui chamado para visitar o Sr. Clark em Lynn, que estava acamado havia seis meses devido a uma doença no quadril, causada por uma queda sobre um prego de madeira quando ainda era menino. Ao entrar na casa, encontrei seu médico, que disse que o paciente estava morrendo. O médico acabara de examinar a úlcera no quadril e disse que o osso estava cariado por vários centímetros. Ele até me mostrou a sonda, que apresentava evidências dessa condição óssea. O médico saiu. O Sr. Clark jazia com os olhos fixos e sem visão. Havia uma névoa mortal em sua testa. Fui até seu leito. Em poucos instantes, seu rosto mudou; a palidez da morte deu lugar a uma cor natural. As pálpebras se fecharam suavemente e a respiração tornou-se normal; ele adormeceu. Cerca de dez minutos depois, ele abriu os olhos e disse: "Sinto-me um novo homem. Todo o meu sofrimento acabou." Isso aconteceu entre três e quatro horas da tarde.
Eu disse para ele se levantar, se vestir e jantar com a família. Ele assim fez. No dia seguinte, eu o vi no quintal. Desde então, não o vi mais, mas me informaram que ele voltou ao trabalho em duas semanas. A secreção da ferida parou e ela cicatrizou. A doença persistia desde que ele se feriu na infância.
Desde sua recuperação, fui informado de que seu médico afirma tê-lo curado e que sua mãe foi ameaçada de internação em um hospício por dizer: "Não foi ninguém menos que Deus e aquela mulher que o curaram". Não posso atestar a veracidade desse relato, mas o que vi e fiz por aquele homem, e o que seu médico disse sobre o caso, ocorreu exatamente como narrei.
We walk in the footsteps of Truth and Love by following the example of our Master in the understanding of divine metaphysics. Christianity is the basis of true healing. Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.
I was called to visit Mr. Clark in Lynn, who had been confined to his bed six months with hip-disease, caused by a fall upon a wooden spike when quite a boy. On entering the house I met his physician, who said that the patient was dying. The physician had just probed the ulcer on the hip, and said the bone was carious for several inches. He even showed me the probe, which had on it the evidence of this condition of the bone. The doctor went out. Mr. Clark lay with his eyes fixed and sightless. The dew of death was on his brow. I went to his bedside. In a few moments his face changed; its death-pallor gave place to a natural hue. The eyelids closed gently and the breathing became natural; he was asleep. In about ten minutes he opened his eyes and said: "I feel like a new man. My suffering is all gone." It was between three and four o'clock in the afternoon when this took place.
I told him to rise, dress himself, and take supper with his family. He did so. The next day I saw him in the yard. Since then I have not seen him, but am informed that he went to work in two weeks. The discharge from the sore stopped, and the sore was healed. The diseased condition had continued there ever since the injury was received in boyhood.
Since his recovery I have been informed that his physician claims to have cured him, and that his mother has been threatened with incarceration in an insane asylum for saying: "It was none other than God and that woman who healed him." I cannot attest the truth of that report, but what I saw and did for that man, and what his physician said of the case, occurred just as I have narrated.
O fato de Cristo, ou a Verdade, ter vencido e ainda vencer a morte prova que o "rei dos terrores" não passa de uma crença mortal, ou erro, que a Verdade destrói com as evidências espirituais da Vida; e isso demonstra que o que parece aos sentidos ser a morte não passa de uma ilusão mortal, pois para o homem real e o universo real não existe processo de morte.
The fact that the Christ, or Truth, overcame and still overcomes death proves the "king of terrors" to be but a mortal belief, or error, which Truth destroys with the spiritual evidences of Life; and this shows that what appears to the senses to be death is but a mortal illusion, for to the real man and the real universe there is no death-process.
O "homem de dores" compreendia melhor a insignificância da vida material e da inteligência, e a poderosa realidade do Deus onipresente, o bem. Esses eram os dois pontos cardeais da Cura da Mente, ou Ciência Cristã, que o muniram de Amor. O mais elevado representante terreno de Deus, falando da capacidade humana de refletir o poder divino, disse profeticamente aos seus discípulos, não se referindo apenas à sua época, mas a todos os tempos: "Aquele que crê em mim fará também as obras que Eu faço"; e "Estes sinais acompanharão os que crerem".
The "man of sorrows" best understood the nothingness of material life and intelligence and the mighty actuality of all-inclusive God, good. These were the two cardinal points of Mind-healing, or Christian Science, which armed him with Love. The highest earthly representative of God, speaking of human ability to reflect divine power, prophetically said to his disciples, speaking not for their day only but for all time: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;" and "These signs shall follow them that believe."
O caminho que nos leva a compreender que Deus é a única Vida é estreito e reto. É uma guerra contra a carne, na qual devemos vencer o pecado, a doença e a morte, seja aqui ou na vida após a morte — certamente antes de podermos alcançar a meta do Espírito, ou a vida em Deus.
Jesus disse, essencialmente: "Quem crê em mim não verá a morte". Ou seja, aquele que compreende a verdadeira ideia da Vida perde a crença na morte. Aquele que possui a verdadeira ideia do bem perde toda a noção do mal e, por isso, é conduzido às realidades imortais do Espírito. Tal pessoa permanece na Vida — vida obtida não por meio de um corpo incapaz de sustentá-la, mas pela Verdade, que desdobra sua própria ideia imortal. Jesus revelou a verdadeira ideia do ser, que resulta em bênçãos infinitas para os mortais.
Em Colossenses (3:4), Paulo escreve: "Quando Cristo, que é a nossa vida aparecer [se manifestar] então vós também aparecerão [se manifestarão] com ele em glória". Quando o ser espiritual for compreendido em toda a sua perfeição, continuidade e poder, então o homem será encontrado à imagem de Deus. O significado absoluto das palavras apostólicas é este: Então o homem se verá, à Sua semelhança, perfeito como o Pai, indestrutível em Vida, "escondido com Cristo em Deus" — com a Verdade no Amor divino, onde o sentido humano não viu o homem.
The way is straight and narrow, which leads to the understanding that God is the only Life. It is a warfare with the flesh, in which we must conquer sin, sickness, and death, either here or hereafter, — certainly before we can reach the goal of Spirit, or life in God.
Jesus said substantially, "He that believeth in me shall not see death." That is, he who perceives the true idea of Life loses his belief in death. He who has the true idea of good loses all sense of evil, and by reason of this is being ushered into the undying realities of Spirit. Such a one abideth in Life, — life obtained not of the body incapable of supporting life, but of Truth, unfolding its own immortal idea. Jesus gave the true idea of being, which results in infinite blessings to mortals.
In Colossians (iii. 4) Paul writes: "When Christ, who is our life, shall appear [be manifested], then shall ye also appear [be manifested] with him in glory." When spiritual being is understood in all its perfection, continuity, and might, then shall man be found in God's image. The absolute meaning of the apostolic words is this: Then shall man be found, in His likeness, perfect as the Father, indestructible in Life, "hid with Christ in God," — with Truth in divine Love, where human sense hath not seen man.
Apresentei a Ciência Cristã e sua aplicação ao tratamento de doenças exatamente como as descobri. Demonstrei, por meio da Mente, os efeitos da Verdade na saúde, longevidade e moral dos homens; e não encontrei nada nos sistemas antigos ou modernos em que pudesse fundamentar o meu próprio, exceto os ensinamentos e demonstrações de nosso grande Mestre e as vidas dos profetas e apóstolos. A Bíblia tem sido minha única autoridade. Não tive outro guia no "caminho reto e estreito" da Verdade.
I have set forth Christian Science and its application to the treatment of disease just as I have discovered them. I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men; and I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in "the straight and narrow way" of Truth.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
