“Amados, agora somos filhos de Deus, e ainda não se manifestou o que havemos de ser. Mas sabemos que, quando ele se manifestar, Seremos como ele, porque o veremos como ele é.”
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
1. Bendize, ó minha alma, ao Senhor, e tudo o que há em mim bendiga o seu santo nome.
3. Ele perdoa todas as tuas iniquidades e cura todas as tuas enfermidades;
4. Ele redime a tua vida da destruição; Ele te coroa com amor e misericórdia;
13. Assim como um pai se compadece de seus filhos, assim o Senhor se compadece daqueles que o temem.
15. Quanto ao homem, os seus dias são como a erva; como a flor do campo, assim ele floresce.
16. pois, passando por ela o vento, logo se vai, e o seu lugar não conhece mais.
17. Mas a misericórdia do Senhor é de eternidade a eternidade sobre aqueles que o temem, e a sua justiça sobre os filhos dos filhos;
18. Àqueles que guardam a sua aliança, e àqueles que se lembram dos seus mandamentos para os cumprirem.
20. Bendizei ao SENHOR, vós, anjos seus, poderosos em força, que cumpris os seus mandamentos, obedecendo à voz da sua palavra.

3. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
13. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
15. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17. But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
18. To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
20. Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
8 E Estêvão, cheio de fé e poder, fazia grandes prodígios e milagres entre o povo.
9 Então, alguns dos que estavam na sinagoga se levantaram,
10 E eles não puderam resistir à sabedoria e ao espírito com que ele falava.
11 Então subornaram alguns homens, que disseram: Ouvimos ele proferir palavras blasfemas contra Moisés e contra Deus.
12 Então instigaram o povo, os anciãos e os escribas, e, aproximando-se, prenderam-no e o levaram ao Sinédrio.
13 E armaram falsas testemunhas,
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue,
10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13 And set up false witnesses,
2 E ele disse: Homens, irmãos e pais, ouçam: O Deus da glória apareceu a nosso pai Abraão, quando ele estava na Mesopotâmia,
48 Contudo, o Altíssimo não habita em templos feitos por mãos humanas, como diz o profeta:
49 O céu é o meu trono, e a terra o estrado dos meus pés; que casa me edificareis? diz o Senhor:
52 Quais dos profetas os vossos pais não perseguiram? E mataram aqueles que anunciaram a vinda do Justo, do qual vós agora fostes traidores e assassinos.
53 Pois receberam a lei por intermédio de anjos e não a guardaram.
54 Ao ouvirem isso, ficaram profundamente indignados e rangeram os dentes contra ele.
55 Mas ele, cheio do Espírito Santo, olhou fixamente para o céu e viu a glória de Deus e Jesus em pé à direita de Deus.
56 E disse: Eis que vejo os céus abertos, e o Filho do homem em pé à direita de Deus.
57 Então eles gritaram em alta voz,
59 E apedrejaram Estêvão,
60 E, ajoelhando-se, clamou em alta voz: Senhor, não lhes imputes este pecado!
E, tendo dito isso, adormeceu.
2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia,
48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,
49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord:
52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
57 Then they cried out with a loud voice,
59 And they stoned Stephen,
60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

2 E homens piedosos levaram Estêvão para o seu sepultamento e fizeram grande lamentação por ele.

2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

2 … pediram-lhe cartas para Damasco, às sinagogas, para que, se encontrasse alguns deste caminho, fossem homens ou mulheres, os levassem presos para Jerusalém.
3 E, indo ele a caminho, chegou perto de Damasco; e subitamente resplandeceu ao seu redor uma luz do céu.
4 E ele caiu por terra, e ouviu uma voz que lhe dizia: Saul, Saul, por que me persegues?
5 E ele disse: Quem és tu, Senhor? E o Senhor disse: Eu sou Jesus, a quem tu persegues:
6 E ele, tremendo e atônito, disse: Senhor, que queres que eu faça? E o Senhor lhe disse: Levanta-te, e entra na cidade, e lá te será dito o que deves fazer.
8 Então Saul se levantou da terra; e, abrindo os olhos, não viu ninguém; mas, guiando-o pela mão, o levaram para Damasco.
10 Havia em Damasco um certo discípulo chamado Ananias; e o Senhor lhe disse em visão: Ananias.
11 Levanta-te, e vai à rua chamada Direita, e pergunta na casa de Judas por um homem chamado Saulo, de Tarso; pois eis que ele está orando,
17 Então Ananias foi e entrou na casa; e, impondo as mãos sobre ele, disse: Irmão Saulo, o Senhor Jesus, que te apareceu no caminho por onde vinhas, me enviou para que tornes a ver e sejas preenchido pelo Espírito Santo.
18 E imediatamente lhe caíram dos olhos como que escamas; e logo recuperou a vista, e levantou-se, e foi batizado.
20 E logo em seguida anunciava a Cristo nas sinagogas que ele era o Filho de Deus.

2 … desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:
6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias.
11 Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
2 Mas os judeus incrédulos instigaram os gentios e os influenciaram maliciosamente contra os irmãos.
19 E chegaram ali alguns judeus de Antioquia e Icônio, os quais persuadiram o povo e, tendo apedrejado Paulo, arrastaram-no para fora da cidade, pensando que ele estivesse morto.
20 Entretanto, estando os discípulos ao redor dele, ele se levantou e entrou na cidade; e no dia seguinte partiu com Barnabé para Derbe.
2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
7 No primeiro dia da semana, quando os discípulos se reuniram para partir o pão, Paulo pregou-lhes, pois ia partir no dia seguinte; e continuou o seu discurso até à meia-noite.
8 E havia muitas luzes no quarto superior, onde eles estavam reunidos.
9 E havia um certo jovem, chamado Êutico, sentado numa janela, e caindo em um profundo sono, que lhe sobreveio durante a longa pregação de Paulo, caiu do terceiro andar; e foi levantado morto.
10 Então Paulo desceu, lançou-se sobre ele e, abraçando-o, disse: Não se perturbem, pois a vida dele está nele.
11 Quando ele, portanto, surgiu novamente, e tendo partido o pão, comeu e conversou longamente até o amanhecer; então, partiu.
12 E eles trouxeram o jovem vivo, e ficaram muito confortados.
7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
2 Porque a lei do Espírito da vida, em Cristo Jesus, me libertou da lei do pecado e da morte.
9 … vós não estais na carne, mas no Espírito, se é que o Espírito de Deus habita em vós.
12 Portanto, irmãos, somos devedores,
14 Pois todos os que são guiados pelo Espírito de Deus são filhos de Deus.
16 O próprio Espírito testifica com o nosso espírito que somos filhos de Deus.
17 E, se filhos, são também herdeiros; herdeiros de Deus e co-herdeiros com Cristo;
38 Pois estou convencido de que nem a morte, nem a vida, nem anjos, nem principados, nem potestades, nem coisas presentes, nem coisas futuras,
39 Nem altura, nem profundidade, nem qualquer outra criatura poderá nos separar do Amor de Deus, que está em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
9 … ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors,
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
DEUS: Princípio Divino, Vida, Verdade, Amor, Alma, Espírito, Mente.
HOMEM: Ideia espiritual de Deus, individual, perfeito, eterno.
God: Divine Principle, Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind.
Man: God's spiritual idea, individual, perfect, eternal.
Pai-Mãe é o nome dado à Divindade, indicando Sua terna relação com Sua criação espiritual. Como o apóstolo expressou em palavras que citou com aprovação de um poeta clássico: "Pois nós também somos Sua descendência".
Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation. As the apostle expressed it in words which he quoted with approbation from a classic poet: "For we are also His offspring."
O universo do Espírito é povoado por seres espirituais, e seu governo é a Ciência divina. O homem é fruto, não das qualidades mais baixas, mas das mais elevadas da Mente. O homem compreende a existência espiritual na medida em que seus tesouros de Verdade e Amor se expandem.
Os mortais devem gravitar em direção a Deus, seus afetos e objetivos devem se tornar espirituais — devem se aproximar das interpretações mais amplas do ser e obter um senso adequado do infinito — para que o pecado e a mortalidade possam ser deixados de lado.
Essa noção científica do ser, que abandona a matéria em favor do Espírito, de modo algum sugere a absorção do homem pela Divindade e a perda de sua identidade, mas confere ao homem uma individualidade ampliada, uma esfera mais vasta de pensamento e ação, um amor mais abrangente, uma paz mais elevada e permanente.
The universe of Spirit is peopled with spiritual beings, and its government is divine Science. Man is the offspring, not of the lowest, but of the highest qualities of Mind. Man understands spiritual existence in proportion as his treasures of Truth and Love are enlarged. Mortals must gravitate Godward, their affections and aims grow spiritual, — they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite, — in order that sin and mortality may be put off.
This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for Spirit, by no means suggests man's absorption into Deity and the loss of his identity, but confers upon man enlarged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent peace.
A história está repleta de relatos de sofrimento. "O sangue dos mártires é a semente da Igreja." Os mortais tentam, em vão, matar a Verdade com o aço ou a estaca, mas o erro só cai diante da espada do Espírito. Os mártires são os elos humanos que conectam uma etapa à outra na história da religião. São os luminares da Terra, que servem para purificar e rarefazer a atmosfera dos sentidos materiais e para permear a humanidade com ideais mais puros.
History is full of records of suffering. "The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church." Mortals try in vain to slay Truth with the steel or the stake, but error falls only before the sword of Spirit. Martyrs are the human links which connect one stage with another in the history of religion. They are earth's luminaries, which serve to cleanse and rarefy the atmosphere of material sense and to permeate humanity with purer ideals.
Os mártires cristãos foram profetas da Ciência Cristã. Através do poder edificante e consagrador da Verdade divina, eles obtiveram uma vitória sobre os sentidos corpóreos, uma vitória que somente a Ciência pode explicar.
The Christian martyrs were prophets of Christian Science. Through the uplifting and consecrating power of divine Truth, they obtained a victory over the corporeal senses, a victory which Science alone can explain.
Saulo de Tarso vislumbrou o caminho — o Cristo, ou a Verdade — somente quando seu senso incerto de justiça cedeu lugar a um senso espiritual, que é sempre correto. Então, o homem se transformou. Seu pensamento assumiu uma perspectiva mais nobre e sua vida tornou-se mais espiritual. Ele reconheceu o erro que cometera ao perseguir cristãos, cuja religião não compreendera, e, em humildade, adotou um novo nome, Paulo. Contemplou pela primeira vez a verdadeira ideia do Amor e aprendeu uma lição da Ciência divina.
Saul of Tarsus beheld the way — the Christ, or Truth — only when his uncertain sense of right yielded to a spiritual sense, which is always right. Then the man was changed. Thought assumed a nobler outlook, and his life became more spiritual. He learned the wrong that he had done in persecuting Christians, whose religion he had not understood, and in humility he took the new name of Paul. He beheld for the first time the true idea of Love, and learned a lesson in divine Science.
Nossas teorias humanas materiais são desprovidas de Ciência. A verdadeira compreensão de Deus é espiritual. Ela rouba a vitória da sepultura. Destrói as falsas evidências que desviam o pensamento e apontam para outros deuses, ou outros supostos poderes, como a matéria, a doença, o pecado e a morte, superiores ou contrários ao Espírito único.
A verdade, discernida espiritualmente, é compreendida cientificamente. Ela expulsa o erro e cura os enfermos.
Ter um só Deus, uma só Mente, revela o poder que cura os enfermos e cumpre estas palavras das Escrituras: "Eu sou o Senhor que te cura" e "Encontrei um resgate". (Êxodo 15:26; Jó 33:24)
Our material human theories are destitute of Science. The true understanding of God is spiritual. It robs the grave of victory. It destroys the false evidence that misleads thought and points to other gods, or other so-called powers, such as matter, disease, sin, and death, superior or contrary to the one Spirit.
Truth, spiritually discerned, is scientifically understood. It casts out error and heals the sick.
Having one God, one Mind, unfolds the power that heals the sick, and fulfils these sayings of Scripture, "I am the Lord that healeth thee," and "I have found a ransom."
Como um homem pensa, assim ele é. A mente é tudo o que sente, age ou impede a ação. Ignorando isso, ou se esquivando da responsabilidade implícita, o esforço de cura é feito no lado errado e, assim, o controle consciente sobre o corpo é perdido.
As a man thinketh, so is he. Mind is all that feels, acts, or impedes action. Ignorant of this, or shrinking from its implied responsibility, the healing effort is made on the wrong side, and thus the conscious control over the body is lost.
Paulo diz em sua epístola aos Romanos: "A mentalidade da carne é inimiga de Deus, pois não se sujeita à lei de Deus, nem mesmo pode se sujeitar. Portanto, os que estão na carne não podem agradar a Deus. Mas vocês não estão na carne, mas no Espírito, se é que o Espírito de Deus habita em vocês."
Paul says in his epistle to the Romans: "The carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the spirit of God dwell in you."
A semelhança com Deus, que perdemos de vista por causa do pecado, obscurece o sentido espiritual da Verdade; e percebemos essa semelhança somente quando subjugamos o pecado e comprovamos a herança do homem, a liberdade dos filhos de Deus.
The likeness of God we lose sight of through sin, which beclouds the spiritual sense of Truth; and we realize this likeness only when we subdue sin and prove man's heritage, the liberty of the sons of God.
O homem não é uma morada material para a Alma; ele próprio é espiritual. A Alma, sendo Espírito, não se manifesta em nada imperfeito ou material.
Man is not a material habitation for Soul; he is himself spiritual. Soul, being Spirit, is seen in nothing imperfect nor material.
O corpo parece agir por si só apenas porque a mente mortal ignora a si mesma, suas próprias ações e suas consequências —ignora que a causa predisponente, remota e excitante de todos os efeitos ruins é uma lei da chamada mente mortal, não da matéria.
A Mente é a mestra dos sentidos corporais e pode vencer a doença, o pecado e a morte. Exerça essa autoridade dada por Deus. Tome posse do seu corpo e governe seus sentimentos e ações. Erga-se na força do Espírito para resistir a tudo o que é contrário ao bem. Deus tornou o homem capaz disso, e nada pode anular a capacidade e o poder divinamente concedidos ao homem.
The body seems to be self-acting, only because mortal mind is ignorant of itself, of its own actions, and of their results, — ignorant that the predisposing, remote, and exciting cause of all bad effects is a law of so-called mortal mind, not of matter. Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
O infinito nunca teve começo, nem jamais terá fim. A Mente e suas formações jamais poderão ser aniquiladas. O homem não é um pêndulo, oscilando entre o mal e o bem, a alegria e a tristeza, a doença e a saúde, a vida e a morte.
A vida e suas faculdades não são medidas por calendários.
O perfeito e o imortal são a eterna semelhança de seu Criador. O homem não é, de modo algum, um germe material que surge do imperfeito e se esforça para alcançar o Espírito acima de sua origem. A correnteza não sobe mais alto que sua nascente.
A medição da vida em anos solares rouba a juventude e confere feiura à velhice. O sol radiante da virtude e da Verdade coexiste com o ser. A maturidade é o seu meio-dia eterno, não obscurecido por um sol em declínio. À medida que o físico e o material, o sentido transitório da beleza, se desvanece, o esplendor do Espírito deve despontar sobre o sentido extasiado com glórias brilhantes e imperecíveis.
The infinite never began nor will it ever end. Mind and its formations can never be annihilated. Man is not a pendulum, swinging between evil and good, joy and sorrow, sickness and health, life and death. Life and its faculties are not measured by calendars. The perfect and immortal are the eternal likeness of their Maker. Man is by no means a material germ rising from the imperfect and endeavoring to reach Spirit above his origin. The stream rises no higher than its source.
The measurement of life by solar years robs youth and gives ugliness to age. The radiant sun of virtue and truth coexists with being. Manhood is its eternal noon, undimmed by a declining sun. As the physical and material, the transient sense of beauty fades, the radiance of Spirit should dawn upon the enraptured sense with bright and imperishable glories.
Deus molda todas as coisas à sua imagem e semelhança. A vida se reflete na existência, a Verdade na veracidade, Deus na bondade, que transmitem paz e permanência.
O homem, feito à Sua imagem e semelhança, possui e reflete o domínio de Deus sobre toda a terra. O homem e a mulher, como coexistentes e eternos com Deus, refletem para sempre, em sua qualidade glorificada, o Deus Pai-Mãe infinito.
God fashions all things, after His own likeness. Life is reflected in existence, Truth in truthfulness, God in goodness, which impart their own peace and permanence.
Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth. Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
“Cientistas cristãos, estabeleçam para vocês mesmos uma lei: que a negligência mental não possa causar dano a vocês, nem quando estiverem dormindo, nem quando estiverem acordados.” — (S&H, pág. 442)
