9. Por isso também nós, desde o dia em que ouvimos isso, não cessamos de orar por vós e de pedir que sejais cheios do conhecimento da Sua Vontade, em toda a sabedoria e entendimento espiritual;
10. Para que vocês vivam de maneira digna do Senhor, agradando-lhe em tudo, frutificando em toda boa obra e crescendo no conhecimento de Deus;

12. Dando graças ao Pai, que nos tornou aptos a participar da herança dos santos na luz:

8 ... há um espírito no homem; e a inspiração do Todo-Poderoso lhes dá entendimento.
8 … there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
4. …desde o princípio do mundo, ninguém jamais ouviu, nem percebeu com os ouvidos, nem os olhos viram, ó Deus, além de Ti, o que Ele preparou para aqueles que O aguardam.
4 …since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
16 Assim diz o Senhor Deus:
19 Eu porei em vós um espírito novo;
20 Para que andem nos meus estatutos, e guardem os meus juízos, e os cumpram; e eles serão o meu povo, e Eu serei o seu Deus.
21 Mas, quanto àqueles cujo coração segue o coração das suas coisas detestáveis e as suas abominações, Eu farei cair sobre sobre as suas próprias cabeças a sua própria conduta, diz o Senhor Deus.

1 O menino Samuel servia ao Senhor perante Eli. E a palavra do Senhor era preciosa naqueles dias; as visões haviam se escasseado muito.
2 Naquele tempo, quando Eli estava deitado em seu lugar, seus olhos começaram a ficar turvos, de modo que ele não podia mais ver;
3 E antes que se apagasse a lâmpada de Deus no templo do Senhor, onde estava a arca de Deus, Samuel estava deitado para dormir;
4 Então o Senhor chamou Samuel, e ele respondeu: Eis-me aqui.
5 Então, correu até Eli e disse: "Eis-me aqui, pois tu me chamaste". Eli respondeu: "Não o chamei; torna a deitar-se". E ele foi e deitou-se.
6 E o Senhor chamou Samuel mais uma vez. E Samuel levantou-se, foi ter com Eli e disse: Eis-me aqui, pois tu me chamaste. E ele respondeu: Não te chamei, meu filho; volta a deitar-te.
7 Ora, Samuel ainda não conhecia o SENHOR, nem lhe havia sido revelada a palavra do SENHOR.
8 E o Senhor chamou Samuel novamente pela terceira vez. E ele se levantou, foi até Eli e disse: Eis-me aqui, pois tu me chamaste. E Eli percebeu que o Senhor havia chamado o menino.
9 Então Eli disse a Samuel: Vai, deita-te; e, se ele te chamar, dirás: Fala, Senhor, porque o teu servo ouve. Então Samuel foi e deitou-se no seu lugar.
10 Então veio o Senhor, e ali se pôs, e chamou, como das outras vezes: Samuel, Samuel. E Samuel respondeu: Fala, porque o teu servo ouve.
11 Então o Senhor disse a Samuel: Eis que farei uma coisa em Israel, que fará zumbir os ouvidos de todos os que a ouvirem.
19 E Samuel crescia, e o SENHOR estava com ele, e nenhuma das suas palavras caiu por terra.
20 E todo o Israel, desde Dã até Berseba, reconheceu que Samuel havia sido designado profeta do Senhor.
1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.
21 E os teus ouvidos ouvirão uma palavra atrás de ti, dizendo: Este é o caminho, andai por ele, quando vos desveis ir para a direita e quando vos deveis irdes para a esquerda.
21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

1 Irmãos, quando Eu fui ter convosco, não o fiz com eloquência ou sabedoria humana, para vos anunciar o testemunho de Deus.
2 Porque decidi nada saber entre vós, senão a Jesus Cristo, e este crucificado.
3 E eu estive entre vós na fraqueza, e no temor, e em grande tremor.
4 A minha palavra e a minha pregação não consistiram em palavras persuasivas de sabedoria humana, mas em demonstração do Espírito e do poder.
5 Para que a vossa fé não se baseie na sabedoria dos homens, mas no poder de Deus.
6 Contudo, falamos de sabedoria entre os perfeitos; não, porém, da sabedoria deste mundo, nem da sabedoria dos príncipes deste mundo, que se reduzem a nada.
7 Mas falamos da sabedoria de Deus em mistério, da sabedoria oculta, que Deus preordenou antes dos séculos para nossa glória.
9 Mas, como está escrito: "Nem olhos viram, nem ouvidos ouviram, nem jamais penetrou no coração humano o que Deus tem preparado para aqueles que o amam".
10 Mas Deus o revelou a nós pelo seu Espírito; porque o Espírito sonda todas as coisas, até mesmo as profundezas de Deus.
11 Pois, qual dos homens conhece os pensamentos do homem, a não ser o espírito do homem que nele está? E ninguém conhece os pensamentos de Deus, senão o Espírito de Deus.
12 Ora, nós não recebemos o espírito do mundo, mas o Espírito que vem de Deus, para que possamos compreender as coisas que nos foram dadas gratuitamente por Deus.
13 Delas também falamos, não com palavras ensinadas pela sabedoria humana, mas com palavras ensinadas pelo Espírito Santo, interpretando verdades espirituais para os que são espirituais.
14 Ora, o homem natural não aceita as coisas do Espírito de Deus, porque lhe são loucura; e não pode entendê-las, porque elas se discernem espiritualmente.
15 Mas aquele que é espiritual discerne todas as coisas, contudo ele mesmo por ninguém é discernido.
16 Pois quem conheceu a mente do Senhor, para que o possa instruir? Todavia, nós temos a mente de Cristo.
1 I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
6 E o Espírito é o que dá testemunho, porque o Espírito é a Verdade.
6 And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
O Espírito é a Vida, a Substância e a continuidade de todas as coisas.
Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things.
A primeira exigência desta Ciência é: "Não terás outros deuses além de Mim". Este "mim" é o Espírito. Portanto, o mandamento significa isto: Não terás Inteligência, Vida, Substância, Verdade ou Amor, senão aquilo que é espiritual.
The first demand of this Science is, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." This me is Spirit. Therefore the command means this: Thou shalt have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual.
O Espírito concede o entendimento que eleva a consciência e conduz a toda a verdade. O Salmista diz: "O Senhor nas alturas é mais poderoso do que o ruído de muitas águas, sim, do que as poderosas ondas do mar". O senso espiritual é o discernimento do bem espiritual. O entendimento é a linha divisória entre o real e o irreal. O entendimento espiritual desdobra a Mente — Vida, Verdade e Amor — e demonstra o senso divino, dando a prova espiritual do universo na Ciência Cristã.
Essa compreensão não é intelectual, não é resultado de conquistas acadêmicas; é a realidade de todas as coisas trazidas à luz. As ideias de Deus refletem o imortal, o infalível e o infinito. O mortal, o falível e o finito são crenças humanas, que atribuem a si mesmas uma tarefa impossível para eles, que é a de distinguir entre o falso e o verdadeiro.
Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth. The Psalmist saith: "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good. Understanding is the line of demarcation between the real and unreal. Spiritual understanding unfolds Mind, — Life, Truth, and Love, — and demonstrates the divine sense, giving the spiritual proof of the universe in Christian Science.
This understanding is not intellectual, is not the result of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things brought to light. God's ideas reflect the immortal, unerring, and infinite. The mortal, erring, and finite are human beliefs, which apportion to themselves a task impossible for them, that of distinguishing between the false and the true.
O homem é a ideia do Espírito; ele reflete a Presença Beatífica, iluminando o universo com luz. O homem é imortal, espiritual. Ele está acima do pecado e da fragilidade. Ele não atravessa as barreiras do tempo para a vasta eternidade da Vida, mas coexiste com Deus e o universo.
Todo objeto no pensamento material será destruído, mas a ideia espiritual, cuja substância reside na Mente, é eterna. Os filhos de Deus não se originam da matéria ou do pó efêmero. Eles são do Espírito, da Mente divina, e assim continuam para sempre.
Man is the idea of Spirit; he reflects the beatific presence, illuming the universe with light. Man is deathless, spiritual. He is above sin or frailty. He does not cross the barriers of time into the vast forever of Life, but he coexists with God and the universe.
Every object in material thought will be destroyed, but the spiritual idea, whose substance is in Mind, is eternal. The offspring of God start not from matter or ephemeral dust. They are in and of Spirit, divine Mind, and so forever continue.
A existência mortal é um enigma. Cada dia é um mistério. O testemunho dos sentidos corpóreos não pode nos informar o que é real e o que é ilusório, mas as revelações da Ciência Cristã desvendam os tesouros da Verdade. Tudo o que é falso ou pecaminoso jamais poderá penetrar na atmosfera do Espírito. Há apenas um Espírito. O homem nunca é Deus, mas o homem espiritual, feito à imagem de Deus, reflete Deus. Nessa reflexão científica, o Ego e o Pai são inseparáveis.
Mortal existence is an enigma. Every day is a mystery. The testimony of the corporeal senses cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive, but the revelations of Christian Science unlock the treasures of Truth. Whatever is false or sinful can never enter the atmosphere of Spirit. There is but one Spirit. Man is never God, but spiritual man, made in God's likeness, reflects God. In this scientific reflection the Ego and the Father are inseparable.
Nada é real e eterno — nada é Espírito — exceto Deus e Sua ideia.
A identidade, ou ideia, de toda a realidade continua para sempre. O Espírito, ou o Princípio divino de tudo, não está nas formações do Espírito. Alma é sinônimo de Espírito, Deus, o Princípio criador, governante e infinito, que transcende a forma finita, da qual as formas apenas se refletem.
Nothing is real and eternal, — nothing is Spirit, — but God and His idea.
The identity, or idea, of all reality continues forever; but Spirit, or the divine Principle of all, is not in Spirit's formations. Soul is synonymous with Spirit, God, the creative, governing, infinite Principle outside of finite form, which forms only reflect.
Quando se fala do homem como feito à imagem de Deus, não se refere ao homem mortal, pecador e doente, mas ao homem ideal, que reflete a semelhança de Deus.
When man is spoken of as made in God's image, it is not sinful and sickly mortal man who is referred to, but the ideal man, reflecting God's likeness.
O homem é mais do que uma forma material com uma mente interior, que precisa escapar do seu ambiente para alcançar a imortalidade. O homem reflete o infinito, e esse reflexo é a verdadeira ideia de Deus.
Através da percepção espiritual, você pode discernir a essência da divindade e, assim, começar a compreender, na Ciência, o termo genérico "homem".
Man is more than a material form with a mind inside, which must escape from its environments in order to be immortal. Man reflects infinity, and this reflection is the true idea of God.
Through spiritual sense you can discern the heart of divinity, and thus begin to comprehend in Science the generic term man.

Jesus disse, referindo-se à percepção espiritual: "Tendo ouvidos para ouvir, não ouvis?" (Marcos 8:18).
Ears. Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding.
Jesus said, referring to spiritual perception, "Having ears, hear ye not?" (Mark viii. 18.)
O Espírito, Deus, é ouvido quando os sentidos estão em silêncio.
Spirit, God, is heard when the senses are silent.
Os patriarcas inspirados pela Alma ouviram a voz da Verdade e conversaram com Deus tão conscientemente quanto um homem conversa com outro.
The Soul-inspired patriarchs heard the voice of Truth, and talked with God as consciously as man talks with man.
Os antigos profetas obtinham sua capacidade de prever o futuro basados numa perspectiva espiritual e incorpórea, não pressentindo o mal e confundindo fato com ficção, mas sim prevendo o futuro com base na corporalidade e na crença humana. Quando suficientemente avançados na Ciência para estarem em harmonia com a verdade do ser, os homens tornam-se videntes e profetas involuntariamente, controlados não por demônios, espíritos ou semideuses, mas pelo único Espírito.
Tudo o que sabemos corretamente sobre o Espírito vem de Deus, o Princípio divino, e é aprendido por meio de Cristo e da Ciência Cristã. Se esta Ciência for completamente aprendida e devidamente assimilada, podemos conhecer a verdade com mais precisão do que o astrônomo consegue ler as estrelas ou calcular um eclipse. Essa leitura da mente é o oposto da clarividência. É a iluminação do entendimento espiritual que demonstra a capacidade da Alma, não dos sentidos materiais. Essa percepção da Alma chega à mente humana quando ela se rende à Mente divina.
The ancient prophets gained their foresight from a spiritual, incorporeal standpoint, not by foreshadowing evil and mistaking fact for fiction, — predicting the future from a groundwork of corporeality and human belief. When sufficiently advanced in Science to be in harmony with the truth of being, men become seers and prophets involuntarily, controlled not by demons, spirits, or demigods, but by the one Spirit.
All we correctly know of Spirit comes from God, divine Principle, and is learned through Christ and Christian Science. If this Science has been thoroughly learned and properly digested, we can know the truth more accurately than the astronomer can read the stars or calculate an eclipse. This Mind-reading is the opposite of clairvoyance. It is the illumination of the spiritual understanding which demonstrates the capacity of Soul, not of material sense. This Soul-sense comes to the human mind when the latter yields to the divine Mind.
Como Deus é Substância e o homem é a imagem e semelhança divina, o homem deveria desejar, e na realidade possui, apenas a substância do bem, a substância do Espírito, não matéria. A crença de que o homem possui qualquer outra substância ou mente, que não a espiritual, transgride o Primeiro Mandamento: "Terás um só Deus, uma só Mente". O homem mortal se vê como substância material, enquanto, na verdade, é "imagem" (ideia).
A ilusão, o pecado, a doença e a morte surgem do falso testemunho desse sentido material, que, de um suposto ponto de vista fora da distância focal do Espírito infinito, apresenta como uma imagem invertida da Mente e da Substância com tudo virado de cabeça para baixo.
As God is substance and man is the divine image and likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only the substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter. The belief that man has any other substance, or mind, is not spiritual and breaks the First Commandment, Thou shalt have one God, one Mind. Mortal man seems to himself to be material substance, while man is "image" (idea). Delusion, sin, disease, and death arise from the false testimony of material sense, which, from a supposed standpoint outside the focal distance of infinite Spirit, presents an inverted image of Mind and substance with everything turned upside down.
O princípio e a prova do cristianismo são discernidos pelo sentido espiritual. Eles são apresentados nas demonstrações de Jesus, que mostram — ao curar os enfermos, expulsar o mal e destruir a morte, "o último inimigo a ser destruído" — seu desapego à matéria e às suas supostas leis.
The Principle and proof of Christianity are discerned by spiritual sense. They are set forth in Jesus' demonstrations, which show — by his healing the sick, casting out evils, and destroying death, "the last enemy that shall be destroyed," — his disregard of matter and its so-called laws.
As correntes calmas e fortes da verdadeira espiritualidade, cujas manifestações são saúde, pureza e autoimolação, devem aprofundar a experiência humana, até que as crenças da existência material sejam vistas como uma imposição direta, e que o pecado, a doença e a morte deem lugar eterno à demonstração científica do Espírito divino e ao homem espiritual e perfeito de Deus.
The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God's spiritual, perfect man.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
