5. O SENHOR é a porção da minha herança e o meu cálice; Tu manténs a minha sorte.

5. The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

7. I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
1 E aconteceu que, quando Jesus acabou de dizer tudo isso, falou aos seus discípulos:
2 Vós sabeis que daqui a dois dias é a festa da Páscoa, e o Filho do homem será traído para ser crucificado.
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
13 E, estando próxima a Páscoa dos judeus, Jesus subiu a Jerusalém,
14 E acharam no templo os que vendiam bois, ovelhas e pombas, e os cambistas assentados.
15 E, tendo feito um açoite de cordas finas, expulsou todos do templo, bem como as ovelhas e os bois; e espalhou o dinheiro dos cambistas, e derrubou as mesas;
16 E disse aos que vendiam pombas: Tirai daqui estas coisas; não façais da casa de meu Pai casa de comércio.
17 E os seus discípulos lembraram-se do que estava escrito: O zelo da tua casa me devorará.
18 Então os judeus lhe responderam: Qual sinal tu nos mostras, vendo que tu fazes estas coisas?
19 Jesus respondeu: "Destruam este templo, e em três dias eu o reconstruirei."
21 Mas ele se referia ao templo do seu corpo.
22 Quando, pois, ressuscitou dos mortos, os seus discípulos se lembraram do que ele lhes tinha dito; e creram na Escritura e na palavra que Jesus tinha falado.
13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
1 Logo pela manhã, os principais sacerdotes, reunindo-se com os anciãos, os escribas e todo o Sinédrio, prenderam Jesus, levaram-no e o entregaram a Pilatos.
1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
16 Então, entregou-o a eles para ser crucificado. E eles, tomando Jesus, o levaram embora.
17 E ele, carregando a sua cruz, saiu para um lugar chamado o lugar da caveira, que em hebraico se chama Gólgota.

1 E, no primeiro dia da semana, Maria Madalena foi cedo ao sepulcro, quando ainda estava escuro, e viu que a pedra havia sido removida da entrada do sepulcro.
2 Então ela correu e foi até Simão Pedro e o outro discípulo, aquele a quem Jesus amava, e disse-lhes: "Tiraram o Senhor do sepulcro, e não sabemos onde o puseram."
3 Então Pedro saiu, juntamente com o outro discípulo, e foram para o sepulcro.
5 E, inclinando-se, e olhando para dentro, viu as roupas de linho estendidas ali;
8 Entrou também aquele outro discípulo, que chegara primeiro ao sepulcro, e viu, e acreditou.
9 Pois, como eles ainda não entendiam a escritura, que diz que ele deveria ressuscitar dos mortos.
11 Mas Maria ficou do lado de fora, junto ao sepulcro, chorando; e, enquanto chorava, abaixou-se e olhou para dentro do sepulcro.
12 E viu dois anjos vestidos de branco, sentados onde estivera o corpo de Jesus, um à cabeceira e o outro aos pés.
13 E eles lhe disseram: Mulher, por que choras? Ela respondeu: Porque levaram meu Senhor, e não sei onde o puseram.
14 E, tendo dito isso, voltou-se e viu Jesus em pé, mas não reconheceu que era Jesus.
16 Disse-lhe Jesus: Maria! Ela, voltando-se, disse-lhe: Raboni! (que significa: Mestre!)
19 Então, naquele mesmo dia à tarde, sendo o primeiro dia da semana, estando fechadas as portas onde os discípulos, com medo dos judeus, estavam reunidos, chegou Jesus, e pôs-se no meio, e disse-lhes: Paz seja convosco.
21 Disse-lhes, pois, Jesus outra vez: Paz seja convosco; assim como o Pai me enviou, Eu também vos envio.
22 E, tendo dito isso, soprou sobre eles e disse-lhes: Recebei o Espírito Santo:

12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
6 Quando se reuniram, perguntaram-lhe: "Senhor, restaurarás neste tempo o reino a Israel?"
7 E ele lhes disse: Não vos compete saber os tempos ou as épocas que o Pai reservou para a sua própria autoridade.
8 Mas recebereis poder, ao descer sobre vós o Espírito Santo, e sereis minhas testemunhas tanto em Jerusalém como em toda a Judeia e Samaria e até aos confins da terra.
9 E, havendo ele dito estas coisas, enquanto eles olhavam, foi elevado às alturas, e uma nuvem o encobriu, ocultando-o dos seus olhos.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

8 Portanto, não te envergonhes do testemunho de nosso Senhor, nem de mim, Seu prisioneiro; antes, participa dos sofrimentos do evangelho segundo o poder de Deus;
9 que nos salvou e nos chamou com uma santa vocação; não segundo as nossas obras, mas segundo o seu próprio propósito e graça que nos foi dada em Cristo Jesus, antes do começo do mundo.

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen;
19 …porque Eu vivo, vós também vivereis.
19 …because I live, ye shall live also.
"Esta é a vida eterna", diz Jesus — "é", e não "será"; e então ele define a vida eterna como um conhecimento presente de seu Pai e de si mesmo — o conhecimento do Amor, da Verdade e da Vida. "Esta é a Vida eterna: que te conheçam a Ti, o único Deus verdadeiro, e a Jesus Cristo, a quem enviaste." As Escrituras dizem: "Nem só de pão viverá o homem, mas de toda palavra que procede da boca de Deus", mostrando que a Verdade é a própria vida do homem; mas a humanidade se opõe a tornar esse ensinamento prático.
"This is life eternal," says Jesus, — is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge of his Father and of himself, — the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life. "This is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent." The Scriptures say, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God," showing that Truth is the actual life of man; but mankind objects to making this teaching practical.
Pergunta: O que é a vida?
Resposta: A vida é princípio divino, mente, alma, espírito. A vida não tem começo nem fim. A eternidade, e não o tempo, expressa o pensamento da vida, e o tempo não faz parte da eternidade.
Question. — What is Life?
Answer. — Life is divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. Life is without beginning and without end. Eternity, not time, expresses the thought of Life, and time is no part of eternity.
A vida é a Mente divina. A vida não tem limites. A morte e a finitude são desconhecidas para a vida.
Life is divine Mind. Life is not limited. Death and finiteness are unknown to Life.
Reconhecemos que a crucificação de Jesus e sua ressurreição serviram para elevar a fé na compreensão da Vida eterna, inclusive na totalidade da Alma, do Espírito e na insignificância da matéria.
We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter.
O abandono de toda fé na morte e também do medo de sua ferroada elevaria o padrão de saúde e moral muito além de seu nível atual e nos permitiria erguer a bandeira do cristianismo com fé inabalável em Deus, na vida eterna.
The relinquishment of all faith in death and also of the fear of its sting would raise the standard of health and morals far beyond its present elevation, and would enable us to hold the banner of Christianity aloft with unflinching faith in God, in Life eternal.
Nosso Mestre reapareceu aos seus alunos — para surpresa deles, ele ressuscitou da sepultura — no terceiro dia de sua ascensão espiritual, e assim lhes apresentou a certeza da Vida eterna.
Our Master reappeared to his students, — to their apprehension he rose from the grave, — on the third day of his ascending thought, and so presented to them the certain sense of eternal Life.
Os judeus, que procuraram matar este homem de Deus, demonstraram claramente que suas visões materialistas eram a origem de seus atos perversos. Quando Jesus falou sobre reproduzir seu corpo — sabendo, como sabia, que a Mente era a construtora — e disse: "Destruam este templo, e em três dias eu o reconstruirei", eles pensaram que ele se referia ao templo material deles, e não ao seu corpo. Para esses materialistas, o homem real parecia um espectro, invisível e desconhecido, e o corpo, que depositavam em um sepulcro, parecia ser mera substância. Esse materialismo perdeu de vista o verdadeiro Jesus; mas a fiel Maria o viu, e ele lhe apresentou, mais do que nunca, a verdadeira ideia de Vida e substância.
Devido às crenças materiais e pecaminosas dos mortais, o Jesus espiritual era imperceptível para eles. Quanto mais elevada era a sua demonstração da Ciência divina, e quanto mais claramente ele proferia as exigências do seu Princípio divino, Verdade e Amor, mais odioso se tornava para os pecadores e para aqueles que, dependendo de doutrinas e leis materiais para se salvarem do pecado e da doença, submetiam-se à morte por considerá-la em suposta conformidade com a inevitável lei da vida. Jesus provou que estavam errados com a sua ressurreição e disse: "Todo aquele que vive e crê em mim jamais morrerá".
The Jews, who sought to kill this man of God, showed plainly that their material views were the parents of their wicked deeds. When Jesus spoke of reproducing his body, — knowing, as he did, that Mind was the builder, — and said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up," they thought that he meant their material temple instead of his body. To such materialists, the real man seemed a spectre, unseen and unfamiliar, and the body, which they laid in a sepulchre, seemed to be substance. This materialism lost sight of the true Jesus; but the faithful Mary saw him, and he presented to her, more than ever before, the true idea of Life and substance.
Because of mortals' material and sinful belief, the spiritual Jesus was imperceptible to them. The higher his demonstration of divine Science carried the problem of being, and the more distinctly he uttered the demands of its divine Principle, Truth and Love, the more odious he became to sinners and to those who, depending on doctrines and material laws to save them from sin and sickness, were submissive to death as being in supposed accord with the inevitable law of life. Jesus proved them wrong by his resurrection, and said: "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
A origem e a compreensão espiritual de Jesus permitiram-lhe demonstrar os fatos do ser — provar irrefutavelmente como a Verdade espiritual destrói o erro material, cura as doenças e vence a morte.
Jesus' spiritual origin and understanding enabled him to demonstrate the facts of being, — to prove irrefutably how spiritual Truth destroys material error, heals sickness, and overcomes death.
O Mestre disse claramente que o físico não era Espírito, e após a sua ressurreição, ele provou aos sentidos físicos que o seu corpo não havia mudado até que ele próprio ascendesse — ou, em outras palavras, se elevasse ainda mais na compreensão do Espírito, de Deus.
A condição física inalterada de Jesus após o que parecia ser a morte foi seguida por sua exaltação acima de todas as condições materiais; e essa exaltação explicou sua ascensão e revelou inequivocamente um estado probatório e progressivo além da sepultura. Jesus era "o caminho"; isto é, ele indicou o caminho para todos os homens. Em sua demonstração final, chamada ascensão, que encerrou o registro terreno de Jesus, ele se elevou acima do conhecimento físico de seus discípulos, e os sentidos materiais não mais o viram.
Seus alunos então receberam o Espírito Santo. Com isso, quer dizer que, por tudo o que testemunharam e sofreram, foram despertados para uma compreensão ampliada da Ciência divina, chegando à interpretação espiritual e ao discernimento dos ensinamentos e demonstrações de Jesus, o que lhes proporcionou uma vaga concepção da Vida que é Deus.
The Master said plainly that physique was not Spirit, and after his resurrection he proved to the physical senses that his body was not changed until he himself ascended, — or, in other words, rose even higher in the understanding of Spirit, God.
Jesus' unchanged physical condition after what seemed to be death was followed by his exaltation above all material conditions; and this exaltation explained his ascension, and revealed unmistakably a probationary and progressive state beyond the grave. Jesus was "the way;" that is, he marked the way for all men. In his final demonstration, called the ascension, which closed the earthly record of Jesus, he rose above the physical knowledge of his disciples, and the material senses saw him no more.
His students then received the Holy Ghost. By this is meant, that by all they had witnessed and suffered, they were roused to an enlarged understanding of divine Science, even to the spiritual interpretation and discernment of Jesus' teachings and demonstrations, which gave them a faint conception of the Life which is God.
Por meio de todas as experiências vividas pelos discípulos, eles se tornaram mais espirituais e compreenderam melhor os ensinamentos do Mestre. Sua ressurreição foi também a ressurreição deles. Ela os ajudou a elevar a si mesmos e aos outros da letargia espiritual e da crença cega em Deus, para a percepção de infinitas possibilidades. Eles precisavam desse despertar, pois em breve seu querido Mestre ressuscitaria no reino espiritual da realidade e ascenderia muito além de sua compreensão. Como recompensa por sua fidelidade, ele desapareceria para os sentidos materiais naquela transformação que desde então tem sido chamada de ascensão.
Through all the disciples experienced, they became more spiritual and understood better what the Master had taught. His resurrection was also their resurrection. It helped them to raise themselves and others from spiritual dulness and blind belief in God into the perception of infinite possibilities. They needed this quickening, for soon their dear Master would rise again in the spiritual realm of reality, and ascend far above their apprehension. As the reward for his faithfulness, he would disappear to material sense in that change which has since been called the ascension.
Em nossa época, o cristianismo demonstra novamente o poder do princípio divino, assim como fez há mais de mil e novecentos anos, curando os enfermos e triunfando sobre a morte.
No santuário sagrado da Verdade, ouvem-se vozes de grande importância, mas não lhes damos ouvidos. Somente quando os chamados prazeres e dores dos sentidos desaparecem em nossas vidas, encontramos sinais inquestionáveis do sepultamento do erro e da ressurreição para a vida espiritual.
In our age Christianity is again demonstrating the power of divine Principle, as it did over nineteen hundred years ago, by healing the sick and triumphing over death.
In the sacred sanctuary of Truth are voices of solemn import, but we heed them not. It is only when the so-called pleasures and pains of sense pass away in our lives, that we find unquestionable signs of the burial of error and the resurrection to spiritual life.
A verdade será para nós "a ressurreição e a vida" somente quando destruir todo o erro e a crença de que a Mente, a única imortalidade do homem, pode ser aprisionada pelo corpo, e a Vida controlada pela morte.
Para a mente mortal, a matéria é substancial e o mal é real.
Essa mentalidade carnal e material, erroneamente chamada de mente, é mortal. Portanto, o homem seria aniquilado, não fosse a conexão indissolúvel do verdadeiro homem espiritual com seu Deus, que Jesus trouxe à luz. Em sua ressurreição e ascensão, Jesus mostrou que o homem mortal não é a verdadeira essência da humanidade e que essa mortalidade material irreal desaparece diante da realidade.
Truth will be to us "the resurrection and the life" only as it destroys all error and the belief that Mind, the only immortality of man, can be fettered by the body, and Life be controlled by death.
To mortal mind, matter is substantial, and evil is real.
This carnal material mentality, misnamed mind, is mortal. Therefore man would be annihilated, were it not for the spiritual real man's indissoluble connection with his God, which Jesus brought to light. In his resurrection and ascension, Jesus showed that a mortal man is not the real essence of manhood, and that this unreal material mortality disappears in presence of the reality.
A verdade demonstrada é a vida eterna.
Truth demonstrated is eternal life.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
