1. E Jesus, cheio do Espírito Santo, voltou do Jordão,
16. E chegou a Nazaré, onde fora criado; e, segundo o seu costume, entrou na sinagoga no dia de sábado, e levantou-se para ler.
17. E foi-lhe entregue o livro do profeta Isaías. E, abrindo o livro, achou o lugar onde estava escrito,
18. O Espírito do Senhor está sobre mim, porque ele me ungiu para pregar o evangelho aos pobres; enviou-me para curar os quebrantados de coração, para proclamar libertação aos cativos e restauração da vista aos cegos, para pôr em liberdade os oprimidos,
19. Para pregar o ano aceitável do Senhor.
20. Então, fechando o livro, devolveu-o ao ministro e sentou-se. E os olhos de todos os que estavam na sinagoga estavam fixos nele.
21. E ele começou a dizer-lhes: Hoje se cumpriu esta Escritura que vocês ouviram.

16. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
1 Eis aqui meu Servo, a quem eu sustenho. Meu Eleito em quem minha alma se deleita. Eu tenho posto meu Espírito sobre ele. Ele irá produzir justiça para às nações.
5 Assim diz Deus, o SENHOR, que criou os céus e os estendeu; que alargou a terra e tudo o que dela procede; que dá fôlego ao povo que nela está e Espírito aos que nela caminham:
6 Eu, o SENHOR, te chamei em justiça, e te tomarei pela mão, e te guardarei, e te darei por aliança do povo, e por luz das nações;
7 Para abrir os olhos dos cegos, para libertar da prisão os presos e para sair do cárcere os que jazem em trevas.
1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
5 Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
6 I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
6 Houve um homem enviado por Deus, cujo nome era João.
7 Ele veio como testemunha, para dar testemunho da luz, a fim de que todos, através dele pudessem crer.
8 Ele não era aquela Luz, mas foi enviado para dar testemunho dessa Luz.
9 Essa era a verdadeira Luz, que ilumina todo homem que vem ao mundo.
10 Ele estava no mundo, e o mundo foi feito por intermédio dele, e o mundo não o conheceu.
11 Ele veio para o que era seu, e os seus não o receberam.
12 Mas a todos quantos o receberam, Ele deu-lhes o poder de se tornarem filhos de Deus, à aqueles que acreditam em seu nome;
13 Os quais não nasceram do sangue, nem da vontade da carne, nem da vontade do homem, mas de Deus.
14 E o Verbo se fez carne e habitou entre nós, e vimos a sua glória, glória como o Unigênito do Pai, cheio de graça e de verdade.
16 E da Sua plenitude todos nós recebemos, graça sobre graça.
17 Pois a lei foi dada por meio de Moisés; a Graça e a Verdade vieram por meio de Jesus Cristo.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
13 Então Jesus veio da Galileia ao Jordão para ser batizado por João.
14 Mas João o impediu, dizendo: Eu preciso ser batizado por ti, e tu vens a mim?
15 E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhe: Deixa por agora, porque assim nos convém cumprir toda a justiça. E o deixou ficar.
16 E Jesus, sendo batizado, saiu logo da água; e eis que se lhe abriram os céus, e viu o Espírito de Deus descendo como pomba e vindo sobre ele.
17 E eis que uma voz dos céus disse: Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem Eu me comprazo.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
23 E Jesus percorria toda a Galileia, ensinando nas sinagogas, pregando o evangelho do reino e curando todo tipo de enfermidades e doenças entre o povo.
24 E a sua fama espalhou-se por toda a Síria; e trouxeram-lhe todos os enfermos que sofriam de várias doenças e tormentos, e os endemoninhados, e os loucos, e os paralíticos; e ele os curou.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
1 Vendo as multidões, Jesus subiu a um monte; e, assentando-se, aproximaram-se dele os seus discípulos.
2 E ele, abrindo a boca, os ensinava, dizendo:
3 Bem-aventurados os pobres de espírito, porque deles é o reino dos céus.
4 Bem-aventurados os que choram, porque serão consolados.
5 Bem-aventurados os mansos, porque herdarão a terra.
6 Bem-aventurados os que têm fome e sede de justiça, porque serão saciados.
7 Bem-aventurados os misericordiosos, porque alcançarão a misericórdia.
8 Bem-aventurados os puros de coração, porque verão a Deus.
9 Bem-aventurados os pacificadores, porque serão chamados filhos de Deus.
10 Bem-aventurados os que são perseguidos por causa da justiça, porque deles é o reino dos céus.
11 Bem-aventurados sois vós quando vos injuriarem e perseguirem, e, mentindo, disserem todo o mal contra vós por minha causa.
12 Alegrai-vos e exultai, porque é grande a vossa recompensa nos céus; pois assim perseguiram os profetas que foram antes de vós.
17 Não pensem que Eu vim destruir a lei ou os profetas; não vim destruir, mas cumprir.
18 Pois em verdade Eu vos digo que, até que o céu e a terra passem, nem um jota
ou um til se omitirá da lei sem que tudo seja cumprido.
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
2 Ora, tendo João ouvido na prisão falar das obras de Cristo, enviou dois dos seus discípulos,
3 E disseram-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou esperamos outro?
4 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhes: Ide e contai a João o que ouvistes e vistes.
5 Os cegos veem, os coxos andam, os leprosos são purificados, os surdos ouvem, os mortos ressuscitam e aos pobres é anunciado o evangelho.
6 E abençoado é aquele que não se ofender em mim.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
30 Em verdade vos digo,
31 O céu e a terra passarão, mas as minhas palavras jamais passarão.
32 Mas daquele dia e daquela hora ninguém sabe, nem os anjos que estão no céu, nem o Filho, senão o Pai.
33 Estejam atentos, vigiem e orem, pois vocês não sabem quando chegará a hora.
34 Pois o Filho do Homem é como um homem que, ao partir para uma viagem, deixou a sua casa, deu autoridade aos seus servos, atribuindo a cada um a sua tarefa, e ordenou ao porteiro que vigiasse.
35 Vigiem, pois, porque vocês não sabem quando o dono da casa virá: se à tarde, à meia-noite, ao cantar do galo ou pela manhã.
36 Para que, chegando de repente, ele não te encontre dormindo.
37 E o que Eu vos digo, Eu digo a todos: Vigiai.
30 Verily I say unto you,
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
20 …e eis que estou convosco todos os dias, até à consumação dos séculos. Amém.
20 …and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus de Nazaré ensinou e demonstrou a unidade do homem com o Pai, e por isso lhe devemos eterna homenagem. Sua missão era tanto individual quanto coletiva. Ele realizou a obra de sua vida corretamente, não apenas com justiça para consigo mesmo, mas também com misericórdia para com os mortais —para mostrar-lhes como fazer o deles, mas não para fazer por eles nem para isentá-los de qualquer responsabilidade. Jesus agiu com ousadia, contrariando as evidências dos sentidos, contra os credos e práticas farisaicas, e refutou todos os oponentes com seu poder de cura.
Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage. His mission was both individual and collective. He did life's work aright not only in justice to himself, but in mercy to mortals, — to show them how to do theirs, but not to do it for them nor to relieve them of a single responsibility. Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.
Como o ideal individual da Verdade, Cristo Jesus veio para repreender o erro rabínico e todo pecado, doença e morte — para apontar o caminho da Verdade e da Vida. Esse ideal foi demonstrado ao longo de toda a trajetória terrena de Jesus, mostrando a diferença entre os frutos da Alma e os frutos dos sentidos materiais, da Verdade e os frutos do erro.
As the individual ideal of Truth, Christ Jesus came to rebuke rabbinical error and all sin, sickness, and death, — to point out the way of Truth and Life. This ideal was demonstrated throughout the whole earthly career of Jesus, showing the difference between the offspring of Soul and of material sense, of Truth and of error.
A origem e a compreensão espiritual de Jesus permitiram-lhe demonstrar os fatos do ser — provar irrefutavelmente como a Verdade espiritual destrói o erro material, cura as doenças e vence a morte. A concepção divina de Jesus apontava para essa verdade e apresentava uma ilustração da criação. A história de Jesus mostra que ele foi mais espiritual do que todas as outras personalidades terrenas.
Vestindo em parte uma forma humana (isto é, como parecia aos olhos mortais), concebido por uma mãe humana, Jesus foi o mediador entre o Espírito e a carne, entre a Verdade e o erro. Explicando e demonstrando o caminho da Ciência divina, ele se tornou o caminho da salvação para todos os que aceitaram sua palavra.
Com ele os, os mortais podem aprender como escapar do mal. Estando o homem real ligado ao seu Criador pela Ciência, os mortais precisam apenas se afastar do pecado e perder de vista a individualidade mortal para encontrar Cristo, o homem real e sua relação com Deus, e reconhecer a filiação divina.
Cristo, a Verdade, foi demonstrado por meio de Jesus para provar o poder do Espírito sobre a carne — para mostrar que a Verdade se manifesta por seus efeitos sobre a mente e o corpo humanos, curando doenças e destruindo o pecado.
Jesus' spiritual origin and understanding enabled him to demonstrate the facts of being, — to prove irrefutably how spiritual Truth destroys material error, heals sickness, and overcomes death. The divine conception of Jesus pointed to this truth and presented an illustration of creation. The history of Jesus shows him to have been more spiritual than all other earthly personalities.
Wearing in part a human form (that is, as it seemed to mortal view), being conceived by a human mother, Jesus was the mediator between Spirit and the flesh, between Truth and error. Explaining and demonstrating the way of divine Science, he became the way of salvation to all who accepted his word. From him mortals may learn how to escape from evil. The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine sonship. Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of Spirit over the flesh, — to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin.
Jesus estabeleceu o que dizia por meio de demonstrações, tornando seus atos mais importantes do que suas palavras. Ele provou o que ensinava. Esta é a Ciência do Cristianismo. Jesus provou que o Princípio, que cura os enfermos e expulsa o erro, é divino. Poucos, porém, exceto seus discípulos, compreenderam minimamente seus ensinamentos e suas gloriosas provas — a saber, que a Vida, a Verdade e o Amor (o Princípio desta Ciência não reconhecida) destroem todo erro, mal, doença e morte.
Jesus established what he said by demonstration, thus making his acts of higher importance than his words. He proved what he taught. This is the Science of Christianity. Jesus proved the Principle, which heals the sick and casts out error, to be divine. Few, however, except his students understood in the least his teachings and their glorious proofs, — namely, that Life, Truth, and Love (the Principle of this unacknowledged Science) destroy all error, evil, disease, and death.
Jesus de Nazaré foi o homem mais científico que já pisou na Terra. Ele mergulhou além da superfície material das coisas e encontrou a causa espiritual.
Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause.
O Sermão da Montanha é a essência desta Ciência, e a vida eterna, não a morte de Jesus, é o seu resultado.
The Sermon on the Mount is the essence of this Science, and the eternal life, not the death of Jesus, is its outcome.
Nosso Mestre não ensinou mera teoria, doutrina ou crença. Era o Princípio divino de todo o ser real que Ele ensinava e praticava. Sua prova do Cristianismo não era uma forma ou sistema de religião e culto, mas a Ciência Cristã, que busca a harmonia entre Vida e Amor.
Jesus enviou uma mensagem a João Batista, que tinha o propósito de provar, sem sombra de dúvida, que o Cristo havia vindo: "Vai e conta a João tudo o que viste e ouviste: os cegos veem, os coxos andam, os leprosos são purificados, os surdos ouvem, os mortos ressuscitam e aos pobres é pregado o evangelho". Em outras palavras: conte a João qual é a demonstração do poder divino, e ele perceberá imediatamente que Deus é o poder na obra messiânica.
Our Master taught no mere theory, doctrine, or belief. It was the divine Principle of all real being which he taught and practised. His proof of Christianity was no form or system of religion and worship, but Christian Science, working out the harmony of Life and Love. Jesus sent a message to John the Baptist, which was intended to prove beyond a question that the Christ had come: "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached." In other words: Tell John what the demonstration of divine power is, and he will at once perceive that God is the power in the Messianic work.
Embora demonstrasse seu domínio sobre o pecado e a doença, o grande Mestre de modo algum eximia os outros de darem as provas necessárias de sua própria piedade. Ele trabalhava para guiá-los, para que pudessem demonstrar esse poder como ele o fez e compreender seu princípio divino.
A fé implícita no Mestre e todo o amor emocional que pudermos dedicar a ele jamais nos tornarão imitadores dele. Devemos ir e fazer o mesmo, caso contrário, não estaremos aproveitando as grandes bênçãos que nosso Mestre trabalhou e sofreu para nos conceder.
Though demonstrating his control over sin and disease, the great Teacher by no means relieved others from giving the requisite proofs of their own piety. He worked for their guidance, that they might demonstrate this power as he did and understand its divine Principle. Implicit faith in the Teacher and all the emotional love we can bestow on him, will never alone make us imitators of him. We must go and do likewise, else we are not improving the great blessings which our Master worked and suffered to bestow upon us.
Seu exemplo perfeito foi para a salvação de todos nós, mas somente através das obras que ele realizou e ensinou aos outros. Seu propósito na cura não era apenas restaurar a saúde, mas demonstrar seu Princípio divino. Ele era inspirado por Deus, pela Verdade e pelo Amor, em tudo o que Ele dizia e fazia.
His consummate example was for the salvation of us all, but only through doing the works which he did and taught others to do. His purpose in healing was not alone to restore health, but to demonstrate his divine Principle. He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did.
Jesus disse (João 8:51): "Se alguém guardar a minha palavra, jamais verá a morte". Essa afirmação não se limita à vida espiritual, mas abrange todos os fenômenos da existência. Jesus demonstrou isso curando os moribundos e ressuscitando os mortos.
A mente mortal precisa se desapegar do erro, despojar-se de si mesma de seus atos, e a imortalidade, o ideal de Cristo, se manifestará. A fé deve ampliar seus limites e fortalecer sua base, apoiando-se no Espírito em vez da matéria. Quando o homem abandona sua crença na morte, ele avança mais rapidamente em direção a Deus, à Vida e ao Amor.
Jesus said (John viii. 51), "If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death." That statement is not confined to spiritual life, but includes all the phenomena of existence. Jesus demonstrated this, healing the dying and raising the dead. Mortal mind must part with error, must put off itself with its deeds, and immortal manhood, the Christ ideal, will appear. Faith should enlarge its borders and strengthen its base by resting upon Spirit instead of matter. When man gives up his belief in death, he will advance more rapidly towards God, Life, and Love.
Quando é que os professos seguidores de Jesus aprenderão a imitá-lo em todos os seus caminhos e a reproduzir as suas obras poderosas? Aqueles que arquitetaram o martírio desse homem justo teriam de bom grado transformado a sua trajetória sagrada numa plataforma doutrinária deturpada.
Que os cristãos de hoje abracem o significado mais prático dessa trajetória! É possível — aliás, é dever e privilégio de toda criança, homem e mulher — seguir, em certa medida, o exemplo do Mestre, demonstrando a Verdade e a Vida, a saúde e a santidade.
Os cristãos afirmam ser seus seguidores, mas será que o seguem da maneira que ele ordenou? Ouçam estes mandamentos imperativos: "Sede vós, pois, perfeitos, como perfeito é o vosso Pai que está nos céus!" "Ide por todo o mundo e pregai o evangelho a toda criatura!" "Curem os enfermos!"
When will Jesus' professed followers learn to emulate him in all his ways and to imitate his mighty works? Those who procured the martyrdom of that righteous man would gladly have turned his sacred career into a mutilated doctrinal platform. May the Christians of to-day take up the more practical import of that career! It is possible, — yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman, — to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness. Christians claim to be his followers, but do they follow him in the way that he commanded? Hear these imperative commands: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!" "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!" "Heal the sick!"
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
“Cientistas cristãos, estabeleçam para vocês mesmos uma lei: que a negligência mental não possa causar dano a vocês, nem quando estiverem dormindo, nem quando estiverem acordados.” — (S&H, pág. 442)
