Cristo Jesus passou os primeiros trinta anos de sua experiência humana preparando-se para os anos de seu ensino e ministério. Mary Baker Eddy passou os primeiros quarenta anos ou mais de sua vida humana buscando a compreensão de Deus que curaria os males da humanidade. A Ciência Cristã não foi descoberta por acaso ou num instante. Na página 107 de Ciência e Saúde, a Sra. Eddy afirma: “No ano de 1866, descobri a Ciência de Cristo, ou as leis divinas da Vida, da Verdade e do Amor, e dei à minha descoberta o nome de Ciência Cristã. Deus graciosamente me preparou durante muitos anos para receber esta revelação final do Princípio divino absoluto da cura mental científica.” Esses anos de preparação foram anos repletos de doenças, tristezas e decepções.

A arrogante mente humana tem dificuldade em compreender por que a portadora da grande mensagem de Deus era uma mulher tranquila e de modos gentis da Nova Inglaterra, pois o raciocínio humano não consegue enxergar a lei e a ordem divinas expressas na descoberta da Sra. Eddy. Mas Aquele que enviou a mensageira e Sua sabedoria não poderiam errar. Por trás da personalidade gentil, havia um coração repleto de grande determinação, uma coragem inabalável e uma consciência sempre voltada para Deus, atenta para ouvir, disposta a obedecer. Ninguém mais estava tão preparado e ninguém mais poderia transmitir tão bem a mensagem divina que a Ciência e a Saúde oferecem aos homens.

Podemos louvar a Deus porque os dias de nossa incompreensão a respeito dEle chegaram ao fim graças à obra de Mary Baker Eddy. O anseio de milhões de homens e mulheres sinceros em compreender a Deus foi satisfeito. Diante da verdade transformadora da Ciência Cristã, os muros da indiferença universal e da oposição à lei espiritual estão ruindo. Mary Baker Eddy tornou-se a líder de um grande exército, o exército de um novo Israel, composto por aqueles que vislumbraram algo da visão de Cristo, a concepção correta de Deus e do homem. Esse exército marcha com cânticos de alegria e armas invencíveis. O objetivo é a Nova Jerusalém, a cidade de Deus construída sem mãos, eterna nos céus, a própria consciência que une os homens ao bem eterno e os liberta para sempre do mal finito.

Assim como Cristo Jesus, Mary Baker Eddy percebeu que somente por meio de suas obras de cura uma igreja pode justificar sua existência. Por estar fundamentada nesse alicerce inabalá-vel, a Igreja da Ciência Cristã resistiu aos ataques mais insidiosos dirigidos ao cristianismo desde a época de Jesus.

Christ Jesus spent the first thirty years of his human experience preparing for the years of his teaching and ministry. Mary Baker Eddy spent the first forty and more years of her human life searching for that understanding of God which would heal the ills of men. Christian Science was not discovered by chance or in a moment. On page 107 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy says: “In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science. God had been graciously preparing me during many years for the reception of this final revelation of the absolute divine Principle of scientific mental healing.” These years of preparation had been years filled to the full with sickness, sorrow, and disappointments. The arrogant human mind finds it difficult to understand why it was that the bearer of God’s great message was a quiet, gentle-mannered New England woman, for human reasoning fails to see the divine law and order expressed in Mrs. Eddy’s discovery. But He who sent the messenger and His wisdom could not err. Beneath the gentle-mannered personality was a heart filled with high resolve, a courage that never faltered, and a consciousness ever turning to God, listening to hear, willing to obey. No other was so ready and no other could inscribe so well the divine utterance which Science and Health gives to men.

We may praise God that the days of our misunderstanding of Him are ended through the life-work of Mrs. Eddy. The longing of millions of earnest men and women to understand God has been satisfied. Before the leavening truth of Christian Science the walls of universal indifference and opposition to spiritual law are crumbling. Mary Baker Eddy has become the leader of a great army, the army of a new Israel, composed of those who have seen something of the vision of Christ, the right idea of God and man. This army is on the march with songs of gladness and with weapons undefeatable. The objective is the New Jerusalem, the city of God built without hands, eternal in the heavens, even the consciousness which unites men with eternal good and forever delivers them from finite evil.

Like Christ Jesus, Mrs. Eddy discerned that only by its healing works can a church justify its existence. Because the Christian Science church is based on this unshakeable foundation it has withstood the most insidious attacks aimed at Christianity since the time of Jesus.
