Dando e recebendo

Como os homens estão ocupados em receber! Muitos querem ganhar dinheiro e acreditam que estão enriquecendo; outros buscam posição ou renome; muitos estão ocupados adoecendo, se curando, se irritando. Obter — como essa palavra soa vazia! É apenas uma pobre imitação do verdadeiro ser, no qual Deus e o homem vivem para sempre para dar.
Como é natural para o homem dar! O amor, Deus, nunca é receber, mas dar eternamente — dar bondade, alegria, vida, saúde, paz. Cristo Jesus viveu somente para dar da verdade que Deus lhe havia dado. Mary Baker Eddy dedicou todos os seus anos a dar à luz a genuína Ciência Cristã. Uma vida inteira dedicada a dar!
O que, então, podemos dar? Primeiro, podemos dar graças, diariamente, a cada hora e na quarta-feira à noite (dar testemunho as 4ªfeiras na igreja da Ciencia Cristâ). Depois, podemos demonstrar bondade, amor e honestidade em nosso dia a dia. Ao darmos a cada dia, Deus nos capacitará rapidamente a dar cada vez mais de Sua Palavra de cura. Eis a essência do ser; eis o motivo para viver; eis toda a felicidade, satisfação e sucesso.
Há apenas uma coisa que os homens devem se empenhar em obter, e essa é a compreensão. “Com tudo o que adquirires, adquira entendimento” Prov. 4:7, escreve o homem sábio; e ele também diz: “Todas as coisas que podes desejar não se comparam a ela”. Mas essa aquisição é o oposto da aquisição que é humanamente impelida. Não se pode obter entendimento sem dar — sem renunciar a um falso senso de prazer e dor na matéria, a uma crença em um eu diferente da manifestação de Deus.
Entregar-se e render-se àquilo que não passa de sentido pecaminoso, o homem ganha o que para ele se torna tudo — o sentido espiritual da vida, no qual o homem é compreendido como o reflexo indestrutível do Amor. Permanecendo nessa fortaleza da mentalidade espiritual, ele começa a compreender o significado das palavras simples, mas profundas, do Mestre:
“Dai, e vos será dado”.

Giving and Getting

How busy men are about getting! Many would get dollars and believe they are getting rich; others would get place or renown; many are busy getting sick, getting well, getting angry. Getting — how hollow the word sounds! It is but the poor counterfeit of real being wherein God and man forever live to give.
How natural for man to give! Love, God, is never getting, but eternally giving — giving goodness, joy, life, health, peace. Christ Jesus lived only to give of that truth which God had given him. Mrs. Eddy spent all her years in giving birth to genuine Christian Science. A whole life spent in giving!
What, then, may we give? First we may give thanks, daily, hourly, and on Wednesday evening. Then we may give forth kindness, love, honesty in our everyday lives. As we give each day, God will quickly enable us to give more and more of His healing Word. Here is the fact of being; here is the motive for living; here is found all happiness, satisfaction, and success.
One thing only should men be engaged in getting, and that is understanding. “With all thy getting get understanding,” writes the man of wisdom; and he also says, “All the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.” But this getting is the reverse of the getting that is humanly impelled. One cannot get understanding without giving — the giving up of a false sense of pleasure and pain in matter, a belief in a self other than the manifestation of God.
Giving in surrender that which is but sinful sense, man gains what to him becomes everything — the spiritual sense of life, wherein man is understood as Love’s indestructible reflection. Abiding in this fortress of spiritual mindedness, he begins to comprehend the import of the Master’s simple but profound words, “Give, and it shall be given unto you.”
