A Atividade do Bem (P.2)

Há cerca de dois mil anos, ao conversar com um grupo de seus compatriotas em Jerusalém, certa manhã, Cristo Jesus traçou uma linha muito clara entre o diabo e Deus. Ele lhes disse sem rodeios: “Vós sois do vosso pai, o diabo”. Ele desejava despertá-los para o seu estado mental errôneo, repleto de pensamentos de orgulho, justiça própria, egoísmo e assim por diante. Eles se vangloriavam de que Deus era seu pai, mas Jesus os contradisse com a afirmação: “Se Deus fosse vosso Pai, vós me amaríeis” (João 8:42).

Em outras palavras, se vocês expressassem a Mente que é Deus, veriam e amariam o bem que Eu expresso. A palavra Pai, tão frequentemente usada por Jesus, é outro nome para Deus, a Mente Paterna. Seus oponentes aceitavam o mal como a fonte de seus pensamentos, aceitando, portanto, o diabo como seu pai, ou ponto de partida, pois não há diabo senão a mentalidade má — a mente carnal.

Então Jesus prosseguiu explicando-lhes que o diabo, ou o mal, não permanece na verdade, pois — usando suas próprias palavras — “ele é mentiroso e o pai da mentira” (João 8:44). Aqui está uma revelação da natureza do mal, um estado de espírito falso, sem mais substância do que uma mentira, pois é nada mais do que uma mentira ou um mentiroso.

Jesus, porém, jamais lhes disse que eles não poderiam se livrar dessa mentalidade errônea. Pelo contrário, pois Ele disse: “Se permanecerdes na minha palavra, verdadeiramente sereis meus discípulos; e conhecereis a verdade, e a verdade vos libertará” (João 8:31-32). Essa palavra era o Seu ensinamento e pensamento corretos, pensar não apenas sobre Deus, mas aceitar os pensamentos de Deus. Permanecer nessa palavra seria seguir os mesmos processos mentais que Jesus usava, não aceitando um Pai, mas a Mente divina, e sempre cultivando os pensamentos que manifestam dessa Mente.

À medida que todos os homens passarem a pensar somente pensamentos que são bons, todos seremos testemunhas e embaixadores de Deus, usando as palavras de Paulo, e o mal será lançado em seu completo nada. Há apenas uma maneira de destruir uma mentira, seja ela pequena ou grande, e essa é tomar consciência da verdade. Jesus afirmou isso quando designou o mal como mentira e disse que o caminho para se libertar dele é compreender a verdade do ser.

The Nature of Evil – 3ª segment

When talking with a group of his countrymen in Jerusalem one morning some two thousand years ago, Christ Jesus drew a very definite line between the devil and God. He told them bluntly, “Ye are of your father the devil.” He was desiring to awaken them to their wrong state of mind which was filled with thoughts of pride, self-righteousness, selfishness and so on. They had been boasting that God was their father, but Jesus contradicted them with the statement, “If God were your father, ye would love me.” (John VIII, 42). In other words, if you were expressing the Mind that is God you would see and love the good which I express. The word Father, so often used by Jesus, is another name for God, the parent Mind. His opponents were accepting evil as the source of their thinking, so accepting the devil as their father, or starting point, for there is no devil but evil mentality — the carnal mind. Then Jesus went on to explain to them that the devil or evil does not abide in the truth for — to use his own words — “he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8, 44). Here is an uncovering of the nature of evil, a false state of mind, with no more substance than a lie, for it is nothing but a lie or liar.

Jesus, however, never said that they could not be rid of this wrong-mindedness. Just the opposite, for he said, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8, 31-32). This word was his correct teaching and thinking, thinking not merely about God, but accepting God’s thoughts. To continue in this word would be to follow the same mental processes that Jesus used, accepting no Father, but divine Mind and ever entertaining the thoughts which manifest this Mind. As all men come to think only the thoughts which are good we shall all be witnesses and ambassadors of God, to use the words of Paul, and evil will be cast into its utter nothingness. There is but one way to destroy a lie, be it small or great, and that is to become conscious of the truth. Jesus affirmed this when he designated evil a lie and said the way to be free from it is to understand the truth of being.
