“As Coisas Antigas Já Passaram”

A Ciência Cristã ensina, hoje, o caminho para se obter uma compreensão clara da herança de liberdade — concedida por Deus ao homem — em relação a toda suposta lei da matéria, seja ela especulativa ou nociva. Esse ensinamento traz à experiência individual alívio da discórdia, bem como o conforto prático da santa aspiração, tornando possível compreender a verdadeira individualidade do homem como filho do Pai amoroso e sempre presente, que está sempre pronto a prestar auxílio imediato e sempre disponível, mesmo nas condições aparentemente mais desesperadoras.

No Apocalipse, o discípulo amado João — a quem nossa Líder se refere como o “escriba imortal do Espírito e de um verdadeiro idealismo” Ciência e Saúde com a Chave das Escrituras, p. 571 — escreve: “E Deus lhes enxugará dos olhos toda lágrima; e já não haverá morte, nem luto, nem pranto, nem dor alguma, porque as primeiras coisas já passaram”. Quando ele escreveu essas palavras, diz-nos a Sra. Eddy (ibid., p. 572), ele “ainda não havia passado pela fase de transição da experiência humana chamada morte, mas já via um novo céu e uma nova terra”.

Isso não nos indica que deveríamos nos empenhar com coragem e persistência para nos aproximarmos, mediante uma compreensão inteligente, do Princípio divino de nossa salvação? Não nos deixemos deter por uma espera fatigante; avancemos rumo ao refúgio do porto, que não é um santuário mítico distante. Esse refúgio não é de difícil alcance; pelo contrário, é de fácil acesso no momento presente de necessidade. Esse refúgio é um fato demonstrável para aqueles dispostos a se empenhar de todo o coração em voltar-se para o Cristo sanador, sempre pronto a entrar na consciência. O Princípio divino, Deus, acompanhará todo o nosso percurso pelo caminho que Jesus já trilhou para nos servir de exemplo. O Cristo vivo! Diante de Sua Presença, as sombras da terra se dissipam.

O homem não precisa se governar pela sua própria sabedoria: ele é governado pela lei divina; ele vive para refletir a Deus. Sua única ocupação é refletir a Vida, com todas as suas grandiosas possibilidades e oportunidades de agir com alegria. Deus, que é o bem infinito, só pode ser refletido na bondade. “Tu me farás ver a vereda da vida; na tua presença há plenitude de alegria; à tua mão direita há delícias perpetuamente” [Salm 16:11]., declarou o Salmista.

A sabedoria divina manifesta-se na ação correta e inteligente; e não pode haver possibilidade de fracasso para a ideia de Deus. A imagem e semelhança de Deus, concebida e sustentada pela Mente imortal, é incapaz de cometer qualquer erro. O homem real não pode ter consciência de fracasso ou angústia, visto que a consciência do bem-estar espiritual é a única consciência real. Todas as ideias de Deus refletem saúde, alegria, paz, humildade e imunidade a qualquer autoridade mítica do erro, sob qualquer forma ou aspecto, qualquer que seja o nome que ela adote. Somente a Mente divina existe; e o homem é, agora, espiritual e perfeito, inseparável do único Ser verdadeiro. O conhecimento dessas verdades fundamentais anulará todas as aparências errôneas; pois toda ideia da Verdade tem Deus consigo para sustentar o seu cumprimento e libertar a vítima da crença falsa.

Devemos cultivar um pensamento claro e correto se quisermos ser curados e não mais conhecer a tristeza ou a dor. É preciso compreender que o ontem já passou, sem deixar amargura ou cicatriz; o hoje está aqui, repleto de expectativa e da bênção da salvação. O amanhã pertence a Deus e não requer planejamento prévio, pois o futuro está em Suas mãos — mãos nas quais podemos deixá-lo com segurança, sem medo ou ansiedade. Em Suas mãos, podemos também confiar aqueles entes queridos que parecem estar perdidos por algum tempo. Na realidade, eles não estão perdidos; podemos deixá-los tranquilamente no amoroso cuidado de Deus, sabendo que eles Lhe pertencem e que Ele cuida deles.

Quando alcançarmos o monte da visão, de onde João viu o dia perfeito em que todas as lágrimas foram enxugadas de todos os olhos — permitindo que todos vissem com clareza —, encontrar-nos-emos onde não há mais separação, dor ou tristeza, “porque as primeiras coisas já passaram”. O Amor divino eleva, fortalece e nos conduz ao ponto em que depositamos nossos fardos aos pés do Cristo, provando que jamais houve uma cruz real a carregar. Assim, com gratidão e obediência, buscamos conhecer a visão mais ampla da bondade infalível de Deus para com toda a humanidade, regozijando-nos por ver o véu que obscurece — o sonho da vida na matéria — rasgado ao meio pelo poder de Sua Palavra, revelando a incapacidade da crença humana de realizar qualquer coisa.

Das profundezas, o clamor da humanidade sofredora chegou ao grande coração do Amor; e está sendo atendido por meio da revelação de Cristo, a Verdade, conforme apresentada por nossa Líder nos ensinamentos contidos em Ciência e Saúde, instruindo-nos a fazer a oração de realização e demonstração ao Deus eterno, que não tropeça nem dorme, mas está perpetuamente atento às necessidades de Seu próprio universo. Assim, podemos nos regozijar na hora mais sombria, plenamente cientes de que a aurora está próxima — a aurora de um novo despertar para a luz que jamais falha, a luz do Amor divino que brilha. seguindo o caminho que suavemente nos conduz ao lar Deus jamais envia as provações; são elas que nos conduzem a Ele.

Ao resolvermos os problemas da vida, somente o pensamento correto opera para a glória de Deus. Ele elimina e apaga tudo o que não é belo — a semente não plantada pela Mente divina e que, portanto, deve ser arrancada e totalmente destruída —, pois não tem Princípio que o sustente nem lei que se imponha. Assim, somos capacitados a avançar no poder que a presença de Deus confere, sabendo que vivemos porque Ele vive.

O desejo e o empenho constantes de colocar Deus — o Princípio divino — em primeiro lugar, e de cumprir nossas obrigações para com nosso Pai celestial com gratidão e alegria, trarão o governo do Espírito às nossas experiências diárias; e veremos nossas necessidades supridas numa medida que supera tudo o que pedimos ou pensamos. Elevar o Cristo, a Verdade, na consciência alimentará todo pensamento faminto que busca o bem. Nada é difícil demais para o Amor realizar — o Amor cujo poder sempre presente liberta o cativo e faz cessar o sofrimento daqueles que padecem na mente ou no corpo. Nada pode resistir ao poder do Amor divino, desde que mantenhamos a compreensão de nossa posição como filhos de Deus, isentos de toda solidão, tristeza ou carência, e intocados por qualquer falsa aparência. Mantendo-nos acima da névoa confusa da mente mortal, certamente vivenciaremos a harmonia em nosso ambiente.

Às vezes, por meio de nosso desejo sincero pelo bem, somos conduzidos por caminhos que desconhecemos; mas, durante todo o tempo, a mão forte e protetora do Bom Pastor nos sustenta, guiando-nos pelo caminho que Ele determinou e revelando Seu propósito para cada indivíduo. A retidão de Seu governo há de se manifestar. Não existe poder capaz de privar o homem de sua felicidade e realização. É a ignorância e o pensamento equivocado que retardam e ocultam a verdade, enquanto não invertemos nossos métodos e nos voltamos para a luz solar curativa do Amor e para as brisas refrescantes da Verdade. Mas, quando nos voltamos para elas, a Vida se revela em toda a sua bela continuidade.

Ao ouvirmos o cântico dos anjos, com o coração em sintonia com as mensagens do alto, veremos, com olhos de percepção glorificada, a porta aberta que ninguém pode fechar. Sim, não apenas veremos a porta aberta, mas entraremos por ela e encontraremos, em uma caminhada mais íntima com Deus, a paz celestial preparada para aqueles que conhecem e amam a Sua lei.

The Former Things Are Passed Away

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE is teaching to-day the way to gain a clear realization of man’s God-given heritage of freedom from every speculative and mischievous so-called law of matter. This teaching brings into individual experience relief from discord, as well as the practical comfort of holy aspiration, making it possible to understand man’s true individuality as a child of the loving, ever present Father, who is ever ready to render immediate aid, ever available in seemingly the most desperate conditions.

In Revelation, the beloved disciple John, whom our Leader speaks of as the “immortal scribe of Spirit and of a true idealism” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 571, writes, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” When he wrote these words, Mrs. Eddy tells us (ibid., p. 572), he “had not yet passed the transitional stage in human experience called death, but he already saw a new heaven and a new earth.”

Does not this indicate what courageous effort and persistency should be ours, that we may draw closer in intelligent understanding to the divine Principle of our salvation? Let us not delay by weary waiting to pull towards the harbor of refuge, which is no mythical sanctuary afar off. This refuge is not difficult to get at, but easy of access in the present moment of need. This refuge is a demonstrable fact to those willing to make a whole-hearted effort to turn to the healing Christ, ever ready to enter consciousness. Divine Principle, God, will accompany us all the way along the path Jesus has already trod for our example. The living Christ! Before its presence the shadows of earth flee away.

Man does not have to govern himself by his own wisdom: he is governed by divine law; he lives to reflect God. His only employment is to reflect Life, with all its grand possibilities and opportunities for joyful doing. God, who is infinite good, can be reflected only in goodness. “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore,” declared the Psalmist.

Divine wisdom is manifested in intelligent right action; and there can be no possibility of failure for God’s idea. God’s image and likeness, conceived and sustained by immortal Mind, is incapable of making any mistake. The real man cannot be conscious of failure or distress, since the consciousness of spiritual well-being is the only real consciousness. All God’s ideas reflect health, joy, peace, humility, and immunity from any mythical authority of error in any shape or form, call itself whatever it may. Divine Mind alone exists; and man is now spiritual and perfect, inseparable from the one true Being. A knowledge of these fundamental truths will nullify all erroneous appearances; for every idea of Truth has God with it to sustain its fulfillment and to set at liberty the victim of false belief.

Clear and correct thinking must be ours if we would be healed, and know no more sorrow or pain. Yesterday must be realized as gone, leaving no bitterness or scar; to-day is here, and big with expectancy and the blessing of salvation. To-morrow belongs to God, and needs no outlining since the future is in His hands, where we may safely leave it without fear or anxiety. In His hands we may also leave those dear ones who seemingly are lost a while. They are not lost in reality; and we may restfully leave them in God’s dear love, knowing that they are His and that He cares for them. When we gain the mount of vision whence John saw the perfect day in which all tears were wiped away from all eyes, enabling all to see with clarity, we shall meet where there is no more parting, or pain, or sorrow, “for the former things are passed away.” Divine Love uplifts, strengthens, and leads to where we lay our burdens at the feet of the Christ, proving that there has never been a real cross to bear.

So with gratitude and obedience we seek to know the wider vision of God’s unfailing goodness to all mankind, rejoicing that the obscuring veil of the dream of life in matter is rent in twain by the power of His Word, revealing the powerlessness of human belief to do aught. Out of the depths has the cry of suffering humanity reached the great heart of Love; and it is being answered through the revelation of Christ, Truth, as revealed by our Leader in the teachings contained in Science and Health, instructing us how to pray the prayer of realization and demonstration to the eternal God, who neither slumbers nor sleeps, but is everlastingly aware of the needs of His own universe. Thus may we rejoice in the darkest hour, well knowing that the dawn is near, the dawn of a new awakening to the light that never fails, the light of divine Love shining on the path which gently leads us home—God never sending the trials, but the trials sending us to Him.

In the solving of life’s problems right thinking alone works for the glory of God. It wipes out and effaces all that is unlovely—the seed not planted by divine Mind, and therefore to be rooted up and utterly destroyed—because it has no Principle behind it and no law to enforce it. We are thus enabled to go forth in the power which God’s presence gives, knowing that we live because He lives.

Constant desire and endeavor to put God, divine Principle, first and to fulfill our obligations to our heavenly Father with gratitude and joy will bring the government of Spirit into our daily experiences, and we shall find our needs met in a measure above all that we ask or think. Uplifting the Christ, Truth, in consciousness will feed every hungry thought reaching out for good. Nothing is too hard for Love to accomplish. Love whose ever present power delivers the captive and brings cessation of suffering to the afflicted in mind or body. Nothing can resist the power of divine Love, if only we maintain the understanding of our position as God’s own child, exempt from all loneliness, sorrow, or want, untouched by any false seeming. Keeping our heads above the confusing mist of mortal mind, we cannot fail to experience harmony in our environments.

Sometimes through our earnest desire for good we are led in a way we know not of; but all the while the strong protecting hand of the Good Shepherd upholds, guiding in the way of His appointing, His purpose being revealed for each individual. The rightness of His government cannot fail to appear. No power exists that can rob man of his happiness and fruition. It is ignorance and wrong thinking that delay and veil the truth as long as we fail to reverse our methods and turn to the healing sunshine of Love and the refreshing breezes of Truth. But when we do turn, then Life will appear in all its lovely continuity.

Listening to the song which the angels sing, our hearts attuned to the messages from on high, we shall see with eyes of glorified perception the open door which no one may close. Yes, we shall not only see the open door, but enter into and find, in a closer walk with God, the heavenly peace prepared for them who know and love His law.
