Amor, o Princípio da Cura

O salmista cantou: “O Senhor te guardará de todo mal; ele preservará a tua alma”; “O Senhor guarda todos os que o amam”. Quão graciosas são as promessas! Mas depende de nós que elas se cumpram em nossa experiência. Quão fiéis seremos? O caminho nos é definido pela Ciência Cristã; cabe a nós segui-lo. Muitos começaram alegremente ao verem as grandes possibilidades da Ciência divina, com sua revelação da totalidade do Amor — mas o sacrifício da materialidade às vezes pareceu demais para eles. Coragem, Firmeza e Lealdade à Verdade são necessárias para que alguém possa desfrutar dos frutos da Ciência Cristã.

Entre o momento em que a apreensão da natureza de Deus começa a se manifestar e a realização da totalidade absoluta do Amor divino, situa-se o período de conquista das crenças malignas que assolam a existência mortal. E, à medida que a realização é assegurada, a prova da cura é obtida. Nossa reverenciada Líder expressa isso esplendidamente quando escreve (Ciência e Saúde, p. 569): “Aquele que toca a orla do manto de Cristo e domina suas crenças mortais, a animalidade e o ódio, regozija-se com a prova da cura — num doce e seguro sentido de que Deus é Amor.”

Quantas vezes os homens contemplaram as curas relatadas no Novo Testamento e se perguntaram como o Mestre e os discípulos as realizaram! Das curas, eles não duvidaram; mas como foram realizadas? Coube à Ciência Cristã resolver o problema secular da cura espiritual.

Em 1866, Mary Baker Eddy experimentou a cura instantânea de uma doença física que seu médico havia declarado incurável. Essa cura lhe deu a chave, por assim dizer, para a Ciência que ela tinha certeza de que estava por trás de sua experiência; e por vários anos ela a acompanhou, dedicando seu tempo ao estudo da Bíblia a fim de descobrir o Princípio e as regras da cura espiritual. Esse Princípio e suas regras ela descobriu; e a Ciência ela chamou de Ciência Cristã.

Qual é, então, o método de cura mental aplicado pela Ciência Cristã? A Sra. Eddy responde à pergunta na página 460 de Ciência e Saúde com as seguintes palavras: “Nosso sistema de cura mental baseia-se na apreensão da natureza e essência de todo ser — nas qualidades essenciais da Mente divina e do Amor.” Nessa simples frase, todo o fundamento da cura espiritual é examinado. E o que isso demonstra? Que a cura espiritual depende da compreensão de Deus como Mente divina, ou Amor, e das qualidades que constituem Sua natureza.

Nada é mais valioso para saber sobre Deus do que que Ele é Amor. De fato, compreender, saber, perceber que Deus é Amor é possuir o poder capaz de resolver todos os problemas da Terra. A verdade de que Deus é Amor é uma das verdades mais maravilhosas já reveladas à humanidade.

Onde os homens falham é em não perceber com suficiente clareza e plenitude a totalidade do Amor. Sendo Deus infinito, o Amor é infinito. Portanto, não há presença real, nenhum poder real, além da presença e do poder do Amor. Isso é absolutamente verdade. Como realizá-lo, excluindo toda crença em contrário, é a necessidade.

Existe uma maneira de obter uma compreensão clara do Amor divino e de suas qualidades essenciais de cura? Sim, por meio da oração — o caminho de Cristo Jesus. Esse método é belamente mencionado na página 15 de Ciência e Saúde, onde a Sra. Eddy escreve: “Para entrar no coração da oração, a porta dos sentidos errantes deve ser fechada. Os lábios devem estar mudos e o materialismo silencioso, para que o homem possa ter audiência com o Espírito, o Princípio divino, o Amor, que destrói todo erro.” Quão bem o Cientista Cristão conhece o caminho; mas quão frágeis às vezes são seus esforços para segui-lo! No entanto, lá está ele, claramente definido; e se ele quiser ter sucesso na cura da doença e do pecado, deve orar corretamente, silenciando os sentidos materiais e entrando em comunhão consciente com o Princípio curador, o Amor.

Love, the Healing Principle

The Psalmist sang: “The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul;” “The Lord preserveth all them that love him.” How gracious the promises! But that they shall be fulfilled in our experience lies with us. How faithful shall we be? The way is defined to us by Christian Science; it is for us to follow it. Many have started joyfully as they saw the great possibilities of divine Science, with its revelation of Love’s allness — but the sacrifice of materiality has sometimes seemed too much for them. Courage, steadfastness, loyalty to Truth, are necessary if one would enjoy the fruitage of Christian Science.

Between the point at which the apprehension of God’s nature begins to appear, and the realization of the absolute allness of divine Love, lies the period of conquest over the evil beliefs which beset mortal existence. And as the realization is secured, the proof of healing is gained. Our revered Leader puts it splendidly when she writes (Science and Health, p. 569), “He that touches the hem of Christ’s robe and masters his mortal beliefs, animality and hate, rejoices in the proof of healing, — in a sweet and certain sense that God is Love.”

How often have men contemplated the healings reported in the New Testament, and wondered how the Master and the disciples brought them about! The healings they have not doubted; but how were they performed? It remained for Christian Science to solve the century-long problem of spiritual healing.

In 1866 Mary Baker Eddy experienced an instantaneous healing of a bodily condition which her physician had pronounced incurable. This healing gave her the clue, so to speak, to the Science which she felt certain lay behind her experience; and for several years she followed it up, devoting her time to the study of the Bible in order to discover the Principle and rules of spiritual healing. This Principle and its rules she did discover; and the Science she named Christian Science.

What, then, is the method of Mind-healing carried out by Christian Science? Mrs. Eddy answers the question on page 460 of Science and Health in the words: “Our system of Mind-healing rests on the apprehension of the nature and essence of all being, — on the divine Mind and Love’s essential qualities.” In that simple sentence the whole ground of spiritual healing is surveyed. And what does it show? That spiritual healing depends upon the understanding of God as divine Mind, or Love, and of the qualities which constitute His nature.

Nothing is more valuable to know about God than that He is Love. Indeed, to understand, to know, to realize, that God is Love is to possess the power which is able to solve all of earth’s problems. The truth that God is Love is one of the most wonderful truths ever revealed to mankind.

Where men fail is in not realizing clearly enough and fully enough Love’s allness. God being infinite, Love is infinite. There is therefore no real presence, no real power, other than the presence and power of Love. This is absolutely true. How to realize it to the exclusion of every belief to the contrary is the necessity.

Is there a way of gaining a clear realization of divine Love and its essential healing qualities? Yes, through prayer — the way of Christ Jesus. This method is beautifully referred to on page 15 of Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy writes: “To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error.” How well the Christian Scientist knows the way; but how feeble sometimes are his efforts to pursue it! Yet there it is, clearly defined; and if he would succeed in healing disease and sin, he must pray aright by silencing material sense and entering into conscious communion with the healing Principle, Love.
