Não foi para enfatizar isso que Mary Baker Eddy sentiu ser imprescindível declarar em seu Manual da Igreja, sob o importante título de “Atenção ao Dever”, que era dever de todo Cientista Cristão “defender-se diariamente contra sugestões mentais agressivas e não se deixar levar a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu Líder e a humanidade”? Vigie isso “diariamente”.
Você acha que a Sra. Eddy teria feito esse pedido a menos que essa “defesa” fosse de suma importância? Vocês, como metafísicos, sabem que isso é verdade e também sabem que, se não orarem diariamente, seu progresso irá naufragar. Não é de se surpreender que a Sra. Eddy tenha acrescentado, nesse mesmo contexto, que pelas suas obras vocês “serão julgados – e justificados ou condenados”.
Por quê? Porque seus trabalhos mostrarão se você está ou não se defendendo de sugestões mentais agressivas e destruindo a “direção de mentes maliciosas”.
Uma das formas mais insidiosas e agressivas dessa “direção por mentes maliciosas” se manifesta na poluição do “ar” por meio de discursos intermináveis e absurdos mentais. Como o rádio tem muitos usos, também sofre, devido à falsa percepção da lei da inversão, muitos abusos.
Como o rádio é matéria rarefeita, ele se aproxima mais da mentalidade, daí seu perigo oculto e a grande necessidade de se precaver cuidadosamente contra a sutileza de seu uso para sugestões políticas, financeiras e religiosas. O Cientista Cristão deve pensar a sós com Deus e preservar a tábua de sua mente “imaculada de toda mácula”.
Só existe uma maneira de neutralizar esse esforço constante de “mentes maliciosas” para direcionar cada uma de suas ações, e essa maneira é ser guiado conscientemente pela Mente divina a cada instante. Para garantir essa direção contínua, é necessário estar sempre alerta e vigilante, nunca se atentando ao efeito, mas sempre à causa.

Was it not to emphasize this that Mrs. Eddy felt it imperative to state in her Church Manual, under the significant heading of “Alertness to Duty,” that it was the duty of every Christian Scientist “to defend himself daily against aggres-sive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind.” Notice the “daily.”
Do you think Mrs. Eddy would have made that request unless this “defense” was of paramount importance? You know as metaphysicians that this is true and you also know that if you do not pray daily you will shipwreck your progress. It is not surprising that Mrs. Eddy should add, in the same connec-tion, that by your works ye “shall be judged, – and justified or condemned.”
Why? Because your works will show whether or not you are defending yourself against aggressive mental suggestion and destroying the “direction by ma-licious minds.”
One of the most insidious and aggressive forms of this “direction by malicious minds” comes as the pollution of the “air” by hourly and daily harangues and mental absurdities. Because radio has many uses, it has by the false sense of the law of reversal, many abuses.
Since radio is rarefied matter it is a nearer approximation to mentality, hence its hidden dan-ger and the great need for carefully guarding against the subtlety of its use for suggestions, political, financial and religious. The Christian Scientist must think alone with God, and pre-serve the tablet of his mind “from every blemish free.”
There is only one way to counteract this con-stant effort of “malicious minds” to direct your every act and that is to be consciously directed by divine Mind every moment. To insure this continuous direction requires constant alertness and watchfulness, – never to deal with effect but always with cause.
