5. Tende em vós o mesmo sentimento que houve também em Cristo Jesus,
6. Que, estando na forma de Deus, julgou não ser roubo ser igual a Deus;
7. Mas fez-se sem reputação, e tomou sobre si a forma de servo.
12. Portanto, meus amados, assim como sempre obedecestes, não como na minha presença somente, mas muito mais agora na minha ausência, trabalhe a sua própria salvação com temor e tremor.
13. Pois é Deus quem opera em vós tanto o querer como o fazer, segundo a sua boa vontade.
14. Fazei todas as coisas sem murmurações nem contendas.
15. Para que sejais irrepreensíveis e sinceros, filhos de Deus.
5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant.
12. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
35 E percorria Jesus todas as cidades e aldeias, ensinando nas sinagogas, pregando o evangelho do reino e curando todas as doenças e enfermidades entre o povo.
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
1 E, chamando os seus doze discípulos, deu-lhes poder sobre os espíritos imundos, para os expulsarem, e para curar todo tipo de doença e todo tipo de enfermidade.
5 Jesus enviou estes doze e ordenou-lhes, dizendo:
8 Curai os enfermos, purificai os leprosos, ressuscitai os mortos, expulsai os demônios; de graça recebestes, de graça dai.
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying,
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
14 Jesus voltou com o poder do Espírito para a Galiléia, e a sua fama correu por toda a região ao redor.
31 E desceu a Cafarnaum, cidade da Galileia, e os ensinava nos sábados.
32 E maravilhavam-se da sua doutrina, porque a sua palavra era com autoridade.
33 E estava na sinagoga um homem que tinha um espírito de demônio imundo, e que clamou em voz alta:
34 Dizendo: Deixa-nos; que temos nós contigo, Jesus Nazareno? Vieste destruir-nos? Eu sei quem és: o Santo de Deus.
35 Então Jesus o repreendeu, dizendo: Cala-te e sai dele. E o diabo, lançando-o no meio do povo, saiu dele e não lhe fez mal algum.
36 E todos ficaram maravilhados, e falavam entre si, dizendo: Que palavra é esta! pois com autoridade e poder ordena aos espíritos imundos, e eles saem.
37 E a sua fama correu por todos os lugares da região circunvizinha.
38 Então, levantando-se da sinagoga, Jesus foi à casa de Simão. A sogra de Simão estava com muita febre, e rogaram-lhe por ela.
39 E, inclinando-se sobre ela, repreendeu a febre, e esta a deixou; e ela, levantando-se imediatamente, os servia.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.
32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
12 E aconteceu que, estando ele em certa cidade, eis que um homem cheio de lepra, vendo a Jesus, prostrou-se com o rosto em terra e rogou-lhe, dizendo: Senhor, se quiseres, bem podes tornar-me limpo.
13 E, estendendo a mão, tocou-lhe, dizendo: Quero; sê limpo. E imediatamente desapareceu dele a lepra.
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
1 E Jesus entrou e passou por Jericó.
2 E eis que havia ali um homem chamado Zaqueu, que era chefe dos publicanos e era rico.
3 E procurava ver quem era Jesus, e não podia, por causa da multidão, porque era de pequena estatura.
4 E correu adiante, e subiu a um sicômoro para vê-lo, porque havia de passar por ali.
5 Quando Jesus chegou àquele lugar, olhou para cima, viu-o e disse-lhe: Zaqueu, desce depressa, porque hoje me convém ficar em tua casa.
6 E ele desceu depressa, e o recebeu com alegria.
7 E, vendo-o todos, murmuravam, dizendo: Foi hospedar-se em casa de um pecador.
8 Então Zaqueu, levantando-se, disse ao Senhor: Senhor, dou aos pobres metade dos meus bens; e, se em alguma coisa de alguém defraudei, restituo-lhe quatro vezes mais.
9 E disse-lhe Jesus: Hoje veio a salvação a esta casa, pois este também é filho de Abraão.
10 Porque o Filho do Homem veio buscar e salvar o que estava perdido.
1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8 And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
1 Depois destas coisas, o Senhor designou outros setenta e dois, e os enviou adiante dele, de dois em dois, a todas as cidades e lugares aonde ele próprio havia de ir.
2 Então lhes disse: A seara, em verdade, é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos. Rogai, pois, ao Senhor da seara que envie trabalhadores para a sua seara.
17 E os setenta voltaram com alegria, dizendo: Senhor, pelo teu nome, até os demônios se nos sujeitam.
18 E ele lhes disse: Eu vi Satanás cair do céu como um relâmpago.
19 Eis que vos dei autoridade para pisar serpentes e escorpiões, e sobre todo o poder do inimigo; e nada absolutamente vos fará dano algum.
20 Contudo, não vos alegreis porque os espíritos se vos submetem; alegrai-vos antes porque os vossos nomes estão escritos nos céus.
21 Naquela hora, Jesus exultou em espírito e disse: Graças te dou, ó Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque ocultaste estas coisas aos sábios e entendidos, e as revelaste aos pequeninos; sim, ó Pai, porque assim foi do teu agrado.
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
16 Então os onze discípulos partiram para a Galileia, para o monte que Jesus lhes havia designado.
17 E, quando o viram, o adoraram; mas alguns duvidaram.
18 E, aproximando-se Jesus, falou-lhes, dizendo: É-me dada toda a autoridade no céu e na terra.
19 Portanto ide, fazei discípulos de todas as nações, batizando-os em nome do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo.
20 Ensinando-os a guardar todas as coisas que eu vos tenho ordenado; e eis que eu estou convosco todos os dias, até a consumação dos séculos. Amém.
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Inteiramente separada da crença e do sonho da vida material, está a Vida divina, revelando a compreensão espiritual e a consciência do domínio do homem sobre toda a Terra. Essa compreensão expulsa o erro e cura os doentes, e com ela você pode falar "como quem tem autoridade".
Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth. This understanding casts out error and heals the sick, and with it you can speak "as one having authority."
Assim como o grande Exemplar, o curador deve falar à doença como se tivesse autoridade sobre ela, deixando a Alma dominar as falsas evidências dos sentidos corpóreos e afirmar suas reivindicações sobre a mortalidade e a doença.
Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease.
Jesus realizou sua própria obra por meio do Espírito único. Ele disse: "“Meu Pai continua trabalhando até agora, e Eu também estou trabalhando.” Ele nunca descreveu doenças, até onde se pode aprender com os Evangelhos, mas curou doenças.
Jesus did his own work by the one Spirit. He said: "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." He never described disease, so far as can be learned from the Gospels, but he healed disease.
Doutrinas criadas pelo homem estão desaparecendo. Elas não se fortaleceram em tempos difíceis. Desprovidas do poder de Cristo, como podem ilustrar as doutrinas de Cristo ou os milagres da graça? A negação da possibilidade de cura cristã priva o cristianismo do próprio elemento que lhe deu força divina e seu sucesso surpreendente e inigualável no primeiro século.
Existe autoridade divina para acreditar na superioridade do poder espiritual sobre a resistência material.
Man-made doctrines are waning. They have not waxed strong in times of trouble. Devoid of the Christ-power, how can they illustrate the doctrines of Christ or the miracles of grace? Denial of the possibility of Christian healing robs Christianity of the very element, which gave it divine force and its astonishing and unequalled success in the first century.
There is divine authority for believing in the superiority of spiritual power over material resistance.
Crenças sobre sofrimento, pecado e morte são irreais. Quando a Ciência divina for universalmente compreendida, elas não terão poder sobre o homem, pois o homem é imortal e vive pela autoridade divina.
Suffering, sinning, dying beliefs are unreal. When divine Science is universally understood, they will have no power over man, for man is immortal and lives by divine authority.
Apresento aqui aos meus leitores uma alegoria ilustrativa da lei da Mente divina e das supostas leis da matéria e da higiene, uma alegoria na qual o apelo da Ciência Cristã cura os doentes.
Suponha que um caso mental esteja em julgamento, como os casos são julgados em tribunal. Um homem é acusado de ter cometido uma doença hepática. O paciente sente-se mal, rumina, e o julgamento começa. O Senso Pessoal é o autor. O Homem Mortal é o réu. A Falsa Crença é o advogado do Senso Pessoal. Mentes Mortais, Matéria Médica, Anatomia, Fisiologia, Hipnotismo, Inveja, Ganância e Ingratidão constituem o júri. A sala do tribunal está repleta de espectadores interessados, e o Juiz Medicina está no banco.
I here present to my readers an allegory illustrative of the law of divine Mind and of the supposed laws of matter and hygiene, an allegory in which the plea of Christian Science heals the sick.
Suppose a mental case to be on trial, as cases are tried in court. A man is charged with having committed liver-complaint. The patient feels ill, ruminates, and the trial commences. Personal Sense is the plaintiff. Mortal Man is the defendant. False Belief is the attorney for Personal Sense. Mortal Minds, Materia Medica, Anatomy, Physiology, Hypnotism, Envy, Greed and Ingratitude, constitute the jury. The courtroom is filled with interested spectators, and Judge Medicine is on the bench.
O Juiz Medicina levanta-se e, com grande solenidade, dirige-se ao júri de Mentes Mortais. Ele analisa a infração, revê o depoimento e explica a lei relativa à doença hepática. Sua conclusão é que as leis da natureza tornam a doença homicida. Cumprindo um dever severo, Sua Excelência, o Juiz Medicina, insta o júri a não permitir que seu julgamento seja distorcido pelas sugestões irracionais e anticristãs da Ciência Cristã. O júri deve considerar, em tais casos, apenas as evidências do Senso Pessoal contra o Homem Mortal.
À medida que o Juiz prossegue, o prisioneiro fica inquieto. Seu rosto pálido empalidece de medo, e uma expressão de desespero e morte o invade. O caso é levado ao júri. Uma breve consulta se inicia, e o júri emite o veredito de "Culpado por doença hepática em primeiro grau".
Judge Medicine arises, and with great solemnity addresses the jury of Mortal Minds. He analyzes the offence, reviews the testimony, and explains the law relating to liver-complaint. His conclusion is, that laws of nature render disease homicidal. In compliance with a stern duty, his Honor, Judge Medicine, urges the jury not to allow their judgment to be warped by the irrational, unchristian suggestions of Christian Science. The jury must regard in such cases only the evidence of Personal Sense against Mortal Man.
As the Judge proceeds, the prisoner grows restless. His sallow face blanches with fear, and a look of despair and death settles upon it. The case is given to the jury. A brief consultation ensues, and the jury returns a verdict of "Guilty of liver-complaint in the first degree."
Veloz nas asas do Amor divino, chega um despacho: "Adiem a execução; o prisioneiro não é culpado." A consternação toma conta do pátio da prisão. Alguns exclamam: "É contrário à lei e à justiça." Outros dizem: "A lei de Cristo prevalece sobre as nossas leis; sigamos a Cristo."
Os olhos sérios e solenes do advogado, brilhando de esperança e triunfo, olham para cima. Então, a Ciência Cristã se volta subitamente para o tribunal supremo e abre os argumentos da defesa:
O prisioneiro no bar foi condenado injustamente. Seu julgamento foi uma tragédia e é moralmente ilegal. O Homem Mortal não teve um advogado adequado no caso.
Swift on the wings of divine Love, there comes a despatch: "Delay the execution; the prisoner is not guilty." Consternation fills the prison-yard. Some exclaim, "It is contrary to law and justice." Others say, "The law of Christ supersedes our laws; let us follow Christ."
The counsel's earnest, solemn eyes, kindling with hope and triumph, look upward. Then Christian Science turns suddenly to the supreme tribunal, and opens the argument for the defence: —
The prisoner at the bar has been unjustly sentenced. His trial was a tragedy, and is morally illegal. Mortal Man has had no proper counsel in the case.
Então, que jurisdição tinha Sua Excelência, o Juiz Medicina, neste caso? A ele eu poderia dizer, em linguagem bíblica: "Tu te assentas para julgar... segundo a lei, e ordenas... que sejas castigado contrariamente à lei?" A única jurisdição à qual o prisioneiro pode se submeter é a da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor. Se não o condenarem, o Juiz Medicina também não o condenará; e peço que o prisioneiro seja restituído à liberdade da qual foi injustamente privado.
Then what jurisdiction had his Honor, Judge Medicine, in this case? To him I might say, in Bible language, "Sittest thou to judge ... after the law, and commandest ... to be smitten contrary to the law?" The only jurisdiction to which the prisoner can submit is that of Truth, Life, and Love. If they condemn him not, neither shall Judge Medicine condemn him; and I ask that the prisoner be restored to the liberty of which he has been unjustly deprived.
O advogado da Ciência Cristã leu então do supremo livro de estatutos, a Bíblia, certos trechos sobre os Direitos do Homem, observando que a Bíblia era melhor autoridade do que Blackstone: — façamos o homem à nossa imagem, segundo a nossa semelhança; e que ele tenha domínio.
Eis que vos dou poder ... sobre todo o poder do inimigo; e nada, absolutamente, vos fará quaisquer dano.
Se alguém guardar a minha palavra, nunca verá a morte.
The attorney, Christian Science, then read from the supreme statute-book, the Bible, certain extracts on the Rights of Man, remarking that the Bible was better authority than Blackstone: —
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion.
Behold, I give unto you power ... over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
Aqui, o advogado de defesa encerrou, e o Presidente do Supremo Tribunal, com presença benigna e imponente, compreendendo e definindo todas as leis e evidências, explicou, a partir de seu livro de estatutos, a Bíblia, que qualquer chamada lei, que se comprometa a punir qualquer coisa além do pecado, é nula e sem efeito.
Here the counsel for the defence closed, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, with benign and imposing presence, comprehending and defining all law and evidence, explained from his statute-book, the Bible, that any so-called law, which undertakes to punish aught but sin, is null and void.
O Júri dos Sentidos Espirituais concordou imediatamente com um veredito, e ressoou por toda a vasta sala de audiências do Espírito o grito: Inocente. Então o prisioneiro se levantou regenerado, forte, livre. Percebemos, enquanto ele apertava a mão de seu conselheiro, a Ciência Cristã, que toda a palidez e debilidade haviam desaparecido. Sua figura estava ereta e imponente, seu semblante radiante de saúde e felicidade. O Amor Divino havia expulsado o medo. O Homem Mortal, não mais doente e aprisionado, caminhava, seus pés "belos sobre as montanhas", como os de alguém "que traz boas novas".
The Jury of Spiritual Senses agreed at once upon a verdict, and there resounded throughout the vast audience-chamber of Spirit the cry, Not guilty. Then the prisoner rose up regenerated, strong, free. We noticed, as he shook hands with his counsel, Christian Science, that all sallowness and debility had disappeared. His form was erect and commanding, his countenance beaming with health and happiness. Divine Love had cast out fear. Mortal Man, no longer sick and in prison, walked forth, his feet "beautiful upon the mountains," as of one "that bringeth good tidings."
Na Ciência divina, onde as orações são mentais, todos podem recorrer a Deus como "socorro bem presente na angústia". O amor é imparcial e universal em suas adaptações e dádivas. É a fonte aberta que clama: "Ó vós, todos os que tendes sede, vinde às águas".
In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as "a very present help in trouble." Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters."
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
“Cientistas cristãos, estabeleçam para vocês mesmos uma lei: que a negligência mental não possa causar dano a vocês, nem quando estiverem dormindo, nem quando estiverem acordados.” — (S&H, pág. 442)
