Testemunho de Cura

Já se passaram muitos anos desde que ouvi falar pela primeira vez da Ciência Cristã; foi numa época em que, tendo todos os meios materiais fracassado em proporcionar felicidade e saúde, fui levada a buscar ajuda na Ciência Cristã — e a encontrei. A princípio, assim como muitos outros, eu pensava apenas nos benefícios materiais. Busquei e vivenciei muitas curas — inclusive uma cura instantânea de um joelho gravemente lesionado que, por mais de vinte anos, fora fonte de grande sofrimento. Eu era obrigada a manter o joelho firmemente enfaixado dia e noite, pois, se as bandagens se afrouxassem minimamente, a articulação do joelho saía imediatamente do lugar. Já se passaram cerca de vinte e um ou vinte e dois anos desde essa cura; durante todo esse tempo, o joelho permaneceu perfeitamente saudável e, em menos de seis meses após a cura da luxação, todos os sinais de atrofia desapareceram, e o membro recuperou uma aparência absolutamente normal.

Uma doença cardíaca em estágio avançado e muitas outras desarmonias foram superadas; no entanto, hoje sou especialmente grata por ter sido libertada do mais profundo desespero e da mais intensa tristeza, e ter sido curada deles. Nos últimos quatro anos, houve momentos em que as águas pareciam prestes a me submergir, e o caminho parecia tão sombrio e desolador; mas, ao me apegar firmemente à verdade revelada na Ciência Cristã, fui sustentada lenta, porém seguramente, até que hoje posso declarar, com alegria e gratidão: na realidade, não existe morte, pois Deus é a Vida do homem.

Faltam-me palavras para expressar minha gratidão pela nossa literatura. Inúmeras vezes, alguma mensagem presente no Sentinel, no Journal ou no Monitor permitiu-me — nas palavras do salmista — “levantar os olhos para os montes, de onde me vem o socorro”. Por essas bênçãos e por toda a bondade amorosa e paciente de muitos amigos da Ciência Cristã, expresso minha gratidão e escrevo este testemunho na esperança de alcançar e ajudar alguém que esteja sofrendo e que ainda não tenha comprovado a veracidade das palavras de nossa amada Líder, a Sra. Eddy, encontradas na página 574 de Ciência e Saúde: “A própria circunstância que a sua sensibilidade sofrida julga ser de ira e aflição, o Amor pode transformar em um anjo acolhido sem que se perceba.”

Testimony of Healing

It is many years since I first heard of Christian Science, at a time when, all material means having failed to bring happiness and health, I was induced to seek help through Christian Science, and found it. At first I, like many others, thought only of the material benefits. I looked for and experienced much healing,—instantaneously in the case of a badly injured knee which for over twenty years had been the source of much suffering. I was obliged to keep the knee tightly bandaged day and night, for if the bandages became loosened in the least degree, the knee joint was immediately dislocated. It is now something like twenty-one or two years since this healing, and during all this time the knee has remained perfectly well, and within six months of the healing of the dislocation all sign of wasting disappeared and the limb became absolutely normal in appearance.

Heart disease in a very bad form and many other discords have been overcome, but to-day I am especially grateful for the lifting and healing of the blackest despair and sorrow. During the last four years the waters at times seemed as though they must overwhelm me, the way seemed so dark and dreary, but by clinging steadfastly to the truth as revealed in Christian Science I have slowly but surely been upheld, until to-day I can with joy and thanksgiving declare: There is in reality no death, for God is the Life of man.

Words fail to express my appreciation for our literature. Times without number some message in either the Sentinel, Journal, or Monitor has enabled me, in the words of the psalmist, to “lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.” For these blessings and for all the loving, patient kindness of many Christian Science friends, I give grateful thanks, and write this testimony in the hope of reaching and helping some sorrowing one who has not yet proved the truth of the words of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as found on page 574 of Science and Health: “The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares.”—(Mrs.) Lucy Bowles, Chelsea, London, England.
