“A Guerra Cristã”

A guerra em que os Cientistas Cristãos estão engajados é o esforço constante para purificar o eu e os sentidos, e é a única guerra consistente com os mais altos ideais do Cristianismo, a guerra da qual Paulo fala: “Porque a nossa luta não é contra a carne e o sangue, mas contra os principados e potestades, contra os dominadores deste mundo tenebroso, contra as forças espirituais da maldade nas regiões celestes.” [Ef. 6:12]
Essa guerra consiste na destruição, no pensamento, de toda pretensão do mal; na exclusão de todo conceito errôneo; na aniquilação de toda falsa apresentação ou reivindicação de poder, à parte de Deus.
O campo de batalha dessa guerra é a consciência individual, na qual “os dominadores deste mundo tenebroso” lutam com o “entendimento espiritual” contra a introdução da Verdade.
O inimigo reúne suas forças: a dúvida, o desespero, o abatimento, reforçados pela malícia, pelo ódio e pela vingança, opõem-se em vão à irresistível corrente do Amor divino. “A espada do Espírito, que é a palavra de Deus” [Ef. 6:17], avança e ascende; a “couraça da justiça” [Ef. 6:14] desvia toda flecha de malícia e ódio, e “o escudo da fé “[Ef.s 6:14] se mostra uma proteção eficaz.
O reconhecimento insistente da onipresença e do poder de Deus, e a demonstração disso na vida diária, é a proteção suficiente para o Cientista Cristão. Ele pode dizer com o Profeta da antiguidade: “Não tenham medo nem se assustem com essa grande multidão, pois a batalha não é de vocês, mas de Deus. Vocês não precisarão lutar nesta batalha; tomem posição, fiquem firmes e vejam a salvação do Senhor com vocês.” [2 Chronicles 20:17]
Essa guerra exige coragem; a coragem que vem somente de uma fé inabalável em Deus. Seu grito de guerra é: “Sede firmes, inabaláveis, sempre abundantes nas obras do Senhor”
[1 Corinthians 15:58], e o “Muito bem, servo bom e fiel”.
Vale a pena se engajar nessa guerra, pois suas recompensas são certas, permanentes e duradouras. Além dela — e somente além dela — está o caminho da paz e da harmonia, o cumprimento da promessa: “Aquele que vencer herdará todas as coisas, e eu serei o seu Deus, e ele será meu filho”.[Ap. 21:7]
É útil lembrar que o medo sempre se refere a algo que não existe; que é uma mentira e um mentiroso em todos os momentos; que não tem princípio, mente, inteligência, lei ou poder; nenhuma linguagem, motivo, efeito ou resultado; e que nunca teve e nunca poderá ter lugar na Mente ou na consciência.

The Christian Warfare

The warfare in which Christian Scientists are engaged is the constant endeavor to purify self and sense, and is the only warfare consistent with the highest ideals of Christianity, the warfare of which Paul speaks, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12
This warfare consists of the destruction in thought of every claim of evil; the exclusion of every erroneous concept; the annihilation of every false presentation, or claim of power, apart from God.
The battleground of this warfare is the individual consciousness in which “the rulers of the darkness of this world” Eph. 6:12 contest with “spiritual understanding” against the introduction of Truth. The enemy rallies its forces; doubt, despair, despondency, reinforced by malice, hatred, revenge, oppose themselves in vain to the irresistible current of divine Love. “The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Eph. 6:17 cleaves its way onward and upward; “the breastplate of righteousness” Eph. 6:14 turns aside every shaft of malice and hatred, and “the shield of faith” Eph 6:16 proves to be an effectual safeguard.
The insistent recognition of God’s allness and power, and the demonstration thereof in daily life, is the Christian Scientist’s sufficient protection. He can say with the Prophet of old, “Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle; set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17-19
This warfare requires courage; even that courage which comes only from an abiding faith in God. Its battle-cry is: “Be ye steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the works of the Lord,” 1 Corinthians 15:58 and the “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
It is worth while to engage in this warfare, for its rewards are sure, permanent, and abiding. Beyond it,—and beyond it only,—is the way of peace and harmony, the fulfilment of the promise, “He that overcometh shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Rev 21:7-9
It is a help to remember that fear is always about something which has no existence; that it is a lie and a liar at all times; that it has no principle, mind, intelligence, law, or power; no language, motive, effect, or result; and that it never has had and never can have a place in Mind or in consciousness.
