9. Porque tu fizeste do Senhor, que é o meu refúgio, do Altíssimo, a tua habitação;
10. Nenhum mal te sucederá, nem praga alguma chegará à tua tenda.
11. Pois ele dará ordens aos seus anjos a seu respeito, para que te guardem em todos os teus caminhos.
12. Eles te sustentarão nas suas mãos, para que não tropeces com o teu pé em alguma pedra.
14. Porque ele me amou, eu o livrarei; pô-lo-ei num lugar alto, porque ele conhece o meu nome.
9. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
23 Ame o Senhor, todos vós seus santos; porque o Senhor guarda os fiéis,
24 Sede de boa coragem, e ele fortalecerá vosso coração, todos vós que esperais no SENHOR.
23 O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful,
24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.
7 Não te lembres dos pecados da minha juventude, nem das minhas transgressões; de acordo com a tua misericórdia, lembra-te de mim por causa da tua bondade, ó SENHOR..
8 Bom e reto é o SENHOR; por isso ele ensinará o caminho aos pecadores.
14 O segredo do SENHOR está com aqueles que o temem; e ele lhes mostrará seu pacto.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O Lord.
8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

1 Deus é o nosso refúgio e força, um socorro bem presente na tribulação.
2 Portanto, não temeremos, ainda que a terra seja removida, e ainda que os montes sejam transportados para o meio do mar.
5 Deus está no meio dela; ela não será abalada; Deus a ajudará, e isso bem cedo.
10 Aquietai-vos e sabei que Eu sou Deus:

1 E Elias, o tisbita,... disse a Acabe: Como vive o SENHOR Deus de Israel, diante do qual me ponho de pé, não haverá orvalho, nem chuva nestes anos, senão segundo a minha palavra.
2 E a palavra do SENHOR veio a ele, dizendo:
3 Vai-te daqui, e vira-te para o oriente, e te ocultes junto ao ribeiro de Querite.
4 E será, que tu beberás do ribeiro; e tenho ordenado aos corvos que te alimentem ali.
7 E aconteceu que, depois de algum tempo, o riacho secou,
8 E veio a ele a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:
9 Levanta-te, vai-te a Sarepta, a qual pertence a Sidom, e habita ali; eis que tenho ordenado uma viúva que te sustente.
10 E, quando chegou ao portão da cidade, eis que a viúva estava lá juntando gravetos; e ele a chamou, e disse: Retira para mim, rogo-te, um pouco de água em um vaso, para que eu possa beber.
11 E enquanto ela estava indo retirá-lo, ele a chamou, e disse: Traz-me, rogo-te, um bocado de pão em tua mão.
12 E ela disse: Vive o SENHOR teu Deus, nem um bolo tenho, senão um punhado de farinha em uma barrica, e um pouco de azeite em um cântaro; e, eis que estou ajuntando dois gravetos, para que eu possa entrar e prepará-lo para mim e para o meu filho, para que possamos disso comer, e morrer.
13 E Elias lhe disse: Não temas; vai e faz tu como disseste; porém, disto faz primeiro para mim um bolo pequeno, e traze-mo, e depois faz para ti e para o teu filho.
14 Porque assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel: A barrica de farinha não se consumirá, tampouco do cântaro de azeite faltará, até o dia em que o SENHOR enviar chuva sobre a terra.
15 E ela foi e fez segundo o dizer de Elias; comeram ele, e ela e a sua casa muitos dias.
16 E a farinha da panela não se desperdiçou, nem o azeite da botija faltou,
17 E sucedeu, depois destas coisas, que o filho da mulher, da senhora da casa, caiu enfermo; e a sua enfermidade era muito grave, até que nele não restou mais fôlego.
18 E ela disse a Elias: O que tenho que fazer contigo, ó tu, homem de Deus? Vieste até mim para chamar à lembrança o meu pecado, e para matar o meu filho?
19 E ele lhe disse: Dá-me o teu filho. E ela o retirou do seu seio, e subiu para o sótão, onde ele habitava, e o deitou sobre a sua própria cama.
21 E ele estendeu-se sobre a criança três vezes, e clamou ao SENHOR, e disse: Ó SENHOR, meu Deus, suplico-te que permitas que a alma desta criança retorne novamente a ela.
22 E o SENHOR ouviu a voz de Elias; e a alma da criança voltou a entrar nela, e ela reviveu.
23 E Elias tomou a criança, e a fez descer da câmara para dentro da casa, e a entregou à sua mãe; e Elias disse: Vê que o teu filho vive.
24 E a mulher disse a Elias: Agora, por isto eu sei que tu és um homem de Deus, e que a palavra do SENHOR na tua boca é verdade.
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, … said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith,
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up,
8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail,
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
7 O SENHOR te preservará de todo o mal; ele preservará a tua alma.
8 O SENHOR preservará a tua ida e a tua vinda, de agora em diante e para sempre.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
1 O SENHOR é meu pastor; nada me falta.
2 Ele me faz deitar em pastos verdes; Ele me conduz ao lado das águas serenas.
3 Ele restaura a minha alma; me conduz no caminho da justiça por causa do Seu nome.
4 Sim, ainda que eu ande pelo vale da sombra da morte, eu não temerei mal algum; porque tu estás comigo; tua vara e o teu cajado me consolam.
5 Tu preparas uma mesa para mim na presença dos meus inimigos; tu unges minha cabeça com óleo; e meu cálice transborda.
6 Certamente a bondade e a misericórdia me seguirão todos os dias da minha vida, e eu habitarei na casa do SENHOR para sempre.
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
O Amor Divino sempre atendeu e sempre atenderá a todas as necessidades humanas. ... para toda a humanidade e em cada hora, o Amor divino fornece todo o bem.
O milagre da graça não é milagre para o Amor. ... A razão, quando bem direcionada, serve para corrigir os erros dos sentidos corpóreos; mas o pecado, a doença e a morte parecerão reais (assim como as experiências do sonho parecem reais) até que a Ciência da eterna harmonia do homem quebre essa ilusão com a realidade inabalável do ser científico.
Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. … to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.
The miracle of grace is no miracle to Love. … Reason, rightly directed, serves to correct the errors of corporeal sense; but sin, sickness, and death will seem real (even as the experiences of the sleeping dream seem real) until the Science of man's eternal harmony breaks their illusion with the unbroken reality of scientific being.
As provações ensinam os mortais a não se apoiarem em um apoio material — uma cana quebrada que fere o coração. Não nos esquecemos disso nem por um instante, mesmo em meio à alegria e à prosperidade. A tristeza é salutar. Através de grandes tribulações, entramos no reino. As provações são provas do cuidado de Deus.
O desenvolvimento espiritual não germina de sementes semeadas no solo das esperanças materiais, mas quando estas murcham, o Amor propaga novamente as alegrias superiores do Espírito, que não têm qualquer vestígio terreno. Cada etapa sucessiva da experiência revela novas perspectivas da bondade e do amor divinos.
Trials teach mortals not to lean on a material staff, — a broken reed, which pierces the heart. We do not half remember this in the sunshine of joy and prosperity. Sorrow is salutary. Through great tribulation we enter the kingdom. Trials are proofs of God's care. Spiritual development germinates not from seed sown in the soil of material hopes, but when these decay, Love propagates anew the higher joys of Spirit, which have no taint of earth. Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love.
O bem exige do homem a cada hora, que ele desvende o problema do ser.
A consagração ao bem não diminui a dependência do homem em Deus, mas a intensifica.
Da mesma forma, a consagração não reduz as obrigações do homem para com Deus, mas demonstra a necessidade primordial de cumpri-las.
A Ciência Cristã não diminui em nada a perfeição de Deus, mas atribui a Ele toda a glória. Ao despojarem-se do velho homem com suas obras, os mortais se revestem da imortalidade.
Não podemos compreender a natureza e a qualidade da criação de Deus mergulhando nas águas rasas da crença mortal. Devemos reverter nossas débeis hesitações— nossos esforços para encontrar vida e verdade na matéria — e elevar-nos acima do testemunho dos sentidos materiais, acima do mortal para a ideia imortal de Deus. Essas visões mais claras e elevadas inspiram o homem, semelhante a Deus, a alcançar o centro e a circunferência absolutos de seu ser.
Good demands of man every hour, in which to work out the problem of being. Consecration to good does not lessen man's dependence on God, but heightens it. Neither does consecration diminish man's obligations to God, but shows the paramount necessity of meeting them. Christian Science takes naught from the perfection of God, but it ascribes to Him the entire glory. By putting "off the old man with his deeds," mortals "put on immortality."
We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings — our efforts to find life and truth in matter — and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the Godlike man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being.
A humanidade precisa aprender que o mal não é poder. O seu suposto despotismo é apenas uma fase do nada. A Ciência Cristã despoja o reino do mal e, preeminentemente, promove o afeto e a virtude nas famílias e, consequentemente, na comunidade.
Mankind must learn that evil is not power. Its so-called despotism is but a phase of nothingness. Christian Science despoils the kingdom of evil, and pre-eminently promotes affection and virtue in families and therefore in the community.
Em todos os momentos e em todas as circunstâncias, vença o mal com o bem. Conhece-te a ti mesmo, e Deus te dará a sabedoria e a oportunidade para a vitória sobre o mal. Revestido com a armadura do Amor, o ódio humano não pode te alcançar.
At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you.
Os mortais precisam olhar além das formas efêmeras e finitas se quiserem alcançar o verdadeiro sentido das coisas. Onde deve repousar o olhar senão no reino insondável da Mente? Devemos olhar para onde caminharíamos e agirmos como se possuíssemos todo o poder dAquele em quem temos nosso ser.
Mortals must look beyond fading, finite forms, if they would gain the true sense of things. Where shall the gaze rest but in the unsearchable realm of Mind? We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being.
Do princípio ao fim, as Escrituras estão repletas de relatos do triunfo do Espírito, da Mente, sobre a matéria.
Moisés comprovou o poder da Mente através daquilo que os homens chamavam de milagres; o mesmo fizeram Josué, Elias e Eliseu. A era cristã foi inaugurada com sinais e maravilhas.
From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over matter. Moses proved the power of Mind by what men called miracles; so did Joshua, Elijah, and Elisha. The Christian era was ushered in with signs and wonders.
A história do cristianismo fornece provas sublimes da influência sustentadora e do poder protetor concedidos ao homem por seu Pai celestial, Mente onipotente, que lhe dá fé e entendimento para se defender não apenas da tentação, mas também do sofrimento corporal.
The history of Christianity furnishes sublime proofs of the supporting influence and protecting power bestowed on man by his heavenly Father, omnipotent Mind, who gives man faith and understanding whereby to defend himself, not only from temptation, but from bodily suffering.
MILAGRE. Aquilo que é divinamente natural, mas que precisa ser aprendido pelo ser humano; um fenômeno da Ciência.
Miracle. That which is divinely natural, but must be learned humanly; a phenomenon of Science.
Um milagre cumpre a lei de Deus, mas não a viola. Este fato parece, atualmente, mais misterioso do que o próprio milagre. O Salmista cantou: "Que te afligiu, ó mar, para que fugiste? Que fizeste retroceder, ó Jordão? Que saltastes como carneiros, e vós, outeiros, como cordeiros? Treme, ó terra, diante do Senhor, diante do Deus de Jacó!" O milagre não introduz desordem, mas revela a ordem primordial, estabelecendo a Ciência da lei imutável de Deus.
A miracle fulfils God's law, but does not violate that law. This fact at present seems more mysterious than the miracle itself. The Psalmist sang: "What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? Thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob." The miracle introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order, establishing the Science of God's unchangeable law.
Os sentidos do Espírito residem no Amor e demonstram a Verdade e a Vida. Portanto, o Cristianismo e a Ciência que o expõe baseiam-se na compreensão espiritual e transcendem as chamadas leis da matéria.
The senses of Spirit abide in Love, and they demonstrate Truth and Life. Hence Christianity and the Science which expounds it are based on spiritual understanding, and they supersede the so-called laws of matter.
Existe hoje o perigo de repetir a ofensa dos judeus, limitando o Santo de Israel.
E perguntando: "Pode Deus preparar uma mesa no deserto?"
O que Deus não pode fazer?
There is to-day danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: "Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?" What cannot God do?
Aderir ao princípio divino da Ciência Cristã e seguir os mandamentos de Deus, permanecendo firme na sabedoria, na verdade e no amor.
Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love.
A Mente é a mestra dos sentidos corporais e pode vencer a doença, o pecado e a morte. Exerça essa autoridade que Deus lhe deu.
... Erga-se na força do Espírito para resistir a tudo o que é contrário ao bem. Deus tornou o homem capaz disso, e nada pode anular a capacidade e o poder divinamente concedidos ao homem.
Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. … Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
As relações entre Deus e o homem, entre o Princípio divino e a ideia, são indestrutíveis na Ciência; e a Ciência não conhece lapsos nem retornos à harmonia, mas sustenta que a ordem divina ou lei espiritual, na qual Deus e tudo o que Ele cria são perfeitos e eternos, permaneceram inalteradas em sua história eterna.
The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history.
A vida espiritual e a bem-aventurança são as únicas evidências pelas quais podemos reconhecer a verdadeira existência e sentir a paz indizível que provém de um amor espiritual que tudo absorve.
Quando aprendermos o caminho da Ciência Cristã e reconhecermos o ser espiritual do homem, contemplaremos e compreenderemos a criação de Deus – todas as glórias da terra, do céu e do homem.
Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love.
When we learn the way in Christian Science and recognize man's spiritual being, we shall behold and understand God's creation, — all the glories of earth and heaven and man.
