“Curem os enfermos, purifiquem os leprosos, ressuscitem os mortos, expulsem os demônios; de graça vocês receberam, de graça deem.”
“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
1. O que era desde o princípio, o que ouvimos, o que vimos com os nossos olhos, o que contemplamos e as nossas mãos apalparam, a respeito da Palavra da vida;
3. O que vimos e ouvimos vos declaramos, para que também possais ter comunhão conosco; e verdadeiramente a nossa comunhão é com o Pai, e com seu Filho Jesus Cristo.
4. E estas coisas vos escrevemos, para que a vossa alegria seja completa.
5. Então esta é a mensagem que dele ouvimos, e vos declaramos: Que Deus é luz, e não há nele treva alguma.
1. Contemple, que tipo de amor o Pai nos outorgou, que fôssemos chamados filhos de Deus. Portanto, o mundo não nos conhece, porque não O conheceu.
2. Amados, agora somos filhos de Deus, e ainda não se manifestou o que haveremos de ser. Mas sabemos que, quando ele aparecer, haveremos de ser semelhantes a ele; porque haveremos de vê-lo assim como ele é.
3. E qualquer homem que tem nele esta esperança purifica-se a si mesmo, assim como ele é puro.
1. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
3. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
SERMÃO DA LIÇÃO
23 E Jesus percorria toda a Galileia, ensinando nas sinagogas, pregando o evangelho do reino e curando todo tipo de enfermidades e doenças entre o povo.
24 E a sua fama espalhou-se por toda a Síria; e trouxeram-lhe todos os enfermos que sofriam de várias doenças e tormentos, e os endemoninhados, e os loucos, e os paralíticos; e ele os curou.
25 E seguiam-no grandes multidões de pessoas vindas da Galileia, da Decápolis, de Jerusalém, da Judeia e de além do Jordão.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judæa, and from beyond Jordan.
1 Vendo as multidões, Jesus subiu a um monte; e, assentando-se, aproximaram-se dele os seus discípulos.
2 E ele, abrindo a boca, os ensinava, dizendo:
3 Abençoados são os pobres em espírito, porque deles é o reino do céu.
4 Abençoados são os que choram, porque eles serão consolados.
5 Abençoados são os mansos, porque eles herdarão a terra.
6 Abençoados são os que têm fome e sede de justiça, porque eles serão saciados.
7 Abençoados são os misericordiosos, porque eles obterão misericórdia.
8 Abençoados são os puros de coração, porque eles verão a Deus.
9 Abençoados são os pacificadores, porque eles serão chamados filhos de Deus.
10 Abençoados são os perseguidos por causa da justiça, porque deles é o reino do céu.
11 Abençoados sois vós, quando homens vos insultarem e vos perseguirem, e falsamente disserem toda espécie de mal contra vós, por minha causa.
12 Alegrai-vos e exultai, porque é grande a vossa recompensa nos céus; pois assim perseguiram os profetas que foram antes de vós.
48 Sede vós, pois, perfeitos, como é perfeito o vosso Pai que está no céu.
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
22 Então lhe trouxeram um endemoninhado, cego e mudo; e ele o curou, de modo que o cego e mudo passou a falar e a ver.
23 E todo o povo ficou admirado e disse: Não é este o filho de Davi?
24 Mas, quando os fariseus ouviram isso, disseram: Este homem não expulsa demônios senão por Belzebu, príncipe dos demônios.
25 E Jesus, conhecendo-lhes os pensamentos, disse-lhes: Todo reino dividido contra si mesmo será assolado; e toda cidade ou casa dividida contra si mesma não subsistirá.
26 E se Satanás expulsa Satanás, está dividido contra si mesmo; como subsistirá então o seu reino?
27 E se Eu expulso demônios por Belzebu, por quem os expulsam os vossos filhos? Portanto, eles mesmos serão os vossos juízes.
28 Mas, se Eu expulso demônios pelo Espírito de Deus, então o reino de Deus chegou até vocês.
46 Enquanto ele ainda falava ao povo, eis que sua mãe e seus irmãos estavam do lado de fora, querendo falar com ele.
47 Então alguém lhe disse: Eis que tua mãe e teus irmãos estão lá fora, querendo falar contigo.
48 Mas ele respondeu e disse àquele que lhe contava: Quem é minha mãe? E quem são meus irmãos?
49 E, estendendo a mão para os seus discípulos, disse: Eis aqui minha mãe e meus irmãos!
50 Pois todo aquele que fizer a vontade de meu Pai que está nos céus, esse é meu irmão, minha irmã e minha mãe.
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
23 E Jesus andava no templo, no pórtico de Salomão.
24 Então os judeus o cercaram e lhe disseram: Até quando nos farás duvidar? Se tu és o Cristo, dize-nos claramente.
25 Jesus respondeu: Eu já lhes disse, e vocês não creram; as obras que eu faço em nome de meu Pai, essas dão testemunho de mim.
26 Mas vós não credes, porque não sois das minhas ovelhas, como eu vos disse.
27 As minhas ovelhas ouvem a minha voz; eu as conheço, e elas me seguem.
28 E eu lhes dou a vida eterna; e jamais perecerão, e ninguém as arrancará da minha mão.
29 Meu Pai, que as deu a mim, é maior do que todos; e nenhum homem pode arrancá-las da mão de meu Pai.
30 Eu e o Pai somos um.
31 Então os judeus pegaram pedras novamente para apedrejá-lo.
23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch.
24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
1 Ora, antes da festa da páscoa, sabendo Jesus que era chegada a sua hora de partir deste mundo para o Pai, e havendo amado os seus próprios que estavam no mundo, ele amou-os até o fim.
1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
1 Depois de dizer isso, Jesus levantou os olhos para o céu e disse: "Pai, chegou a hora; glorifica o teu Filho, para que o teu Filho te glorifique também.
3 E esta é a vida eterna: Que eles Te conheçam, o único Deus verdadeiro, e Jesus Cristo, a quem enviaste.
4 Eu Te glorifiquei na terra; completei a obra que me deste para fazer.
13 E agora venho a Ti; e digo estas coisas no mundo, para que eles tenham a minha alegria completa em si mesmos.
19 E por eles me santifico a mim mesmo, para que também eles sejam santificados na verdade.
20 Não rogo somente por estes, mas também por aqueles que hão de crer em mim por meio da palavra deles;
22 E a glória que me deste, eu lhes dei, para que sejam um, assim como nós somos um.
25 Ó Pai justo, o mundo não Te conheceu; mas Eu Te conheci, e estes sabem que Tu me enviaste.
26 E eu lhes revelei o Teu nome, e continuarei a revelá-lo, para que o amor com que me amaste esteja neles, e Eu neles.
1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
13 Pois teu é o reino, o poder e a glória para sempre. Amém.
13 For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
A expiação é a exemplificação da unidade do homem com Deus, pela qual o homem reflete a Verdade, a Vida e o Amor divinos. Jesus de Nazaré ensinou e demonstrou a unidade do homem com o Pai, e por isso lhe devemos eterna homenagem. Sua missão era tanto individual quanto coletiva. Ele realizou a obra de sua vida corretamente, não apenas com justiça para consigo mesmo, mas com misericórdia para com os mortais —para mostrar-lhes como fazer a deles, mas não para fazê-la por eles nem para isentá-los de qualquer responsabilidade. Jesus agiu com ousadia, contrariando as evidências dos sentidos, contra os credos e práticas farisaicas, e refutou todos os oponentes com seu poder de cura.
A expiação de Cristo reconcilia o homem com Deus, e não Deus com o homem; pois o Princípio divino de Cristo é Deus.
Atonement is the exemplification of man's unity with God, whereby man reflects divine Truth, Life, and Love. Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage. His mission was both individual and collective. He did life's work aright not only in justice to himself, but in mercy to mortals, — to show them how to do theirs, but not to do it for them nor to relieve them of a single responsibility. Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.
The atonement of Christ reconciles man to God, not God to man; for the divine Principle of Christ is God,
Jesus estabeleceu sua igreja e manteve sua missão sobre um fundamento espiritual de cura por Cristo. Ele ensinou a seus seguidores que sua religião tinha um Princípio divino, que expulsaria o erro e curaria tanto os enfermos quanto os pecadores. Ele não reivindicava inteligência, ação ou vida separadas de Deus. Apesar da perseguição que isso lhe trouxe, ele usou seu poder divino para salvar os homens tanto corporal quanto espiritualmente.
A pergunta, então como agora, era: Como Jesus curava os doentes? Sua resposta a essa pergunta foi rejeitada pelo mundo.
Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing. He taught his followers that his religion had a divine Principle, which would cast out error and heal both the sick and the sinning. He claimed no intelligence, action, nor life separate from God. Despite the persecution this brought upon him, he used his divine power to save men both bodily and spiritually.
The question then as now was, How did Jesus heal the sick? His answer to this question the world rejected.
Essa afirmação de nosso Mestre, "Eu e o Pai somos um", o separava da teologia escolástica dos rabinos. Sua compreensão superior de Deus era uma refutação para eles. Ele conhecia apenas uma Mente e não reivindicava nenhuma outra. Sabia que o Ego era Mente em vez de corpo e que a matéria, o pecado e o mal não eram Mente; e sua compreensão dessa Ciência divina atraiu sobre si os anátemas da época.
As visões opostas e falsas das pessoas ocultavam de seus sentidos a filiação de Cristo a Deus. Elas não conseguiam discernir sua existência espiritual. Suas mentes carnais estavam em inimizade com ela. Seus pensamentos estavam repletos de erros mortais, em vez da ideia espiritual de Deus apresentada por Cristo Jesus. Perdemos de vista a semelhança com Deus por causa do pecado, que obscurece o sentido espiritual da Verdade; e percebemos essa semelhança somente quando subjugamos o pecado e comprovamos a herança do homem, a liberdade dos filhos de Deus.
That saying of our Master, "I and my Father are one," separated him from the scholastic theology of the rabbis. His better understanding of God was a rebuke to them. He knew of but one Mind and laid no claim to any other. He knew that the Ego was Mind instead of body and that matter, sin, and evil were not Mind; and his understanding of this divine Science brought upon him the anathemas of the age.
The opposite and false views of the people hid from their sense Christ's sonship with God. They could not discern his spiritual existence. Their carnal minds were at enmity with it. Their thoughts were filled with mortal error, instead of with God's spiritual idea as presented by Christ Jesus. The likeness of God we lose sight of through sin, which beclouds the spiritual sense of Truth; and we realize this likeness only when we subdue sin and prove man's heritage, the liberty of the sons of God.
Jesus caminhou sobre as ondas, alimentou multidões, curou enfermos e ressuscitou mortos, em direta oposição às leis materiais. Seus atos foram a demonstração da Ciência, superando as falsas alegações do senso comum ou da lei material.
Jesus walked on the waves, fed the multitude, healed the sick, and raised the dead in direct opposition to material laws. His acts were the demonstration of Science, overcoming the false claims of material sense or law.
O Cristo era o Espírito que Jesus insinuou em suas próprias declarações: "Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida"; "Eu e o Pai somos um". Este Cristo, ou a divindade do homem Jesus, era a sua natureza divina, a piedade que o animava. A Verdade, a Vida e o Amor divinos conferiram a Jesus autoridade sobre o pecado, a doença e a morte. Sua missão era revelar a Ciência do ser celestial, provar o que Deus é e o que Ele faz pelo homem.
The Christ was the Spirit which Jesus implied in his own statements: "I am the way, the truth, and the life;" "I and my Father are one." This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him. Divine Truth, Life, and Love gave Jesus authority over sin, sickness, and death. His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man.
Para alcançar a verdadeira felicidade, o homem deve harmonizar-se com o seu Princípio, o Amor divino; o Filho deve estar em harmonia com o Pai, em conformidade com Cristo.
For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ.
Nosso Pai celestial, o Amor divino, exige que todos os homens sigam o exemplo de nosso Mestre e seus apóstolos, e não apenas adorem sua personalidade. É triste que a expressão "serviço divino" tenha passado a significar, de forma tão geral, adoração pública em vez de ações cotidianas.
A natureza do cristianismo é pacífica e abençoada, mas para entrar no reino, a âncora da esperança deve ser lançada além do véu da matéria, na Shekinah, para a qual Jesus passou antes de nós; e esse avanço para além da matéria deve ocorrer tanto pelas alegrias e triunfos dos justos quanto por suas tristezas e aflições. Como nosso Mestre, devemos partir do sentido material para o sentido espiritual do ser.
Our heavenly Father, divine Love, demands that all men should follow the example of our Master and his apostles and not merely worship his personality. It is sad that the phrase divine service has come so generally to mean public worship instead of daily deeds.
The nature of Christianity is peaceful and blessed, but in order to enter into the kingdom, the anchor of hope must be cast beyond the veil of matter into the Shekinah into which Jesus has passed before us; and this advance beyond matter must come through the joys and triumphs of the righteous as well as through their sorrows and afflictions. Like our Master, we must depart from material sense into the spiritual sense of being.
Cada pontada de arrependimento e sofrimento, cada esforço de reforma, cada bom pensamento e ação, nos ajudará a compreender a expiação de Jesus pelos pecados e a contribuir para a sua eficácia; mas se o pecador continua a orar e a arrepender-se, a pecar e a lamentar-se, ele tem pouca participação na expiação — na reconciliação com Deus —, pois lhe falta o arrependimento prático, que reforma o coração e capacita o homem a fazer a vontade da sabedoria. Aqueles que não conseguem demonstrar, ao menos em parte, o princípio divino dos ensinamentos e da prática do nosso Mestre não têm parte com Deus. Se vivermos em desobediência a Ele, não devemos sentir segurança, embora Deus seja bom.
Every pang of repentance and suffering, every effort for reform, every good thought and deed, will help us to understand Jesus' atonement for sin and aid its efficacy; but if the sinner continues to pray and repent, sin and be sorry, he has little part in the atonement, — in the at-one-ment with God, — for he lacks the practical repentance, which reforms the heart and enables man to do the will of wisdom. Those who cannot demonstrate, at least in part, the divine Principle of the teachings and practice of our Master have no part in God. If living in disobedience to Him, we ought to feel no security, although God is good.
Jesus disse: "Estes sinais acompanharão os que crerem: [...] imporão as mãos sobre os enfermos, e estes ficarão curados." Quem crê nele? Ele se dirigia aos seus discípulos, mas não disse: "Estes sinais acompanharão vocês", e sim a eles — "os que crerem" para sempre. [...] Em outra ocasião, Jesus orou, não apenas pelos doze, mas por todos os que acreditariam "por meio da palavra deles".
Jesus said: "These signs shall follow them that believe; ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Who believes him? He was addressing his disciples, yet he did not say, "These signs shall follow you," but them— "them that believe" in all time to come. … At another time Jesus prayed, not for the twelve only, but for as many as should believe "through their word."
Todos nós precisamos aprender que a Vida é Deus. Pergunte a si mesmo: Estou vivendo uma vida que se aproxima do bem supremo? Estou demonstrando o poder curativo da Verdade e do Amor? Se sim, então o caminho se tornará mais iluminado "até o dia perfeito". Seus frutos provarão o que a compreensão de Deus traz ao homem. Mantenha sempre este pensamento: é a ideia espiritual, o Espírito Santo e Cristo, que lhe permite demonstrar, com certeza científica, a regra da cura, baseada em seu Princípio divino, o Amor, subjacente, abrangente e que engloba todo o verdadeiro ser.
We all must learn that Life is God. Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of Truth and Love? If so, then the way will grow brighter "unto the perfect day." Your fruits will prove what the understanding of God brings to man. Hold perpetually this thought, — that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being.
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja orar todos os dias: "Venha o Teu reino"; que o reinado da Verdade, da Vida e do Amor divinos se estabeleça em mim e expulse de mim todo pecado; e que a Tua Palavra enriqueça os afetos de toda a humanidade e os governe! — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 4
Nem a animosidade nem o mero apego pessoal devem impelir os motivos ou atos dos membros da Igreja Mãe. Na Ciência, somente o Amor divino governa o homem; e um Cientista Cristão reflete as doces comodidades do Amor, repreendendo o pecado, na verdadeira fraternidade, caridade e perdão. Os membros desta Igreja devem vigiar e orar diariamente para serem libertos de todo mal, de profetizar, julgar, condenar, aconselhar, influenciar ou serem influenciados erroneamente. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 1
Será dever de cada membro desta Igreja defender-se diariamente contra a sugestão mental agressiva, e não ser levado a esquecer ou negligenciar seu dever para com Deus, seu líder e a humanidade. Por suas obras, ele será julgado — e justificado ou condenado. — Manual da Igreja, Artigo VIII, Seção 6.
