O Amor de Deus

A escritora muitas vezes ficou muito impressionada ao ver o amor incansável e altruísta de uma mãe por seu filho—aquele amor materno que tenta tão sinceramente guiar e proteger seus filhos. Em seguida, a escritora fez uma pausa para perceber como esse amor pode abrir o pensamento para o amor de Deus. A mãe segura firme o Filho nos braços; mas mais perto ainda Deus segura seus filhos, perfeitos em seu amor inesgotável. No livro de Atos lemos: “nele vivemos, e nos movemos, e temos o nosso ser”; e, porque Deus é amor, o homem real deve, portanto, viver e agir no reino do amor, e estar consciente apenas de sua presença; pois o mal nunca pode estar presente onde está o Amor.

Todo mundo sabe como o pintinho é aconchegado em sua pequena concha, e como seria impossível que ele fosse ferido ou mesmo tocado, a menos que a concha, que o envolve e protege, fosse primeiro destruída. Tão completamente quanto o pintinho é cercado pela concha, tão completamente, mas infinitamente mais seguramente, estão os filhos de Deus contidos e protegidos pelo amor divino; e nenhum mal pode tocá-los. Uma mãe humana não deixaria seu filho ficar doente, infeliz ou precisando de qualquer coisa que ela pudesse suprir; e, no entanto, muitos acreditam que Deus permite que todas essas coisas aconteçam com seus filhos.

Certamente, tal conclusão deve ser vista como a mais irracional. Em Romanos nos é dito que nada pode separar o homem do amor de Deus; e, como isso é verdade, não podemos ser privados da saúde, riqueza, sabedoria, liberdade e alegria que são de e com Deus. Nunca há um momento em que o homem não possa regozijar-se no cuidado amoroso de Deus; pois Deus deu a seus filhos “ricamente todas as coisas para desfrutar.”A Ciência Cristã enfatiza esta bela mensagem, dando-nos muitas outras boas razões pelas quais podemos desfrutar destemidamente da existência; e, talvez, nenhuma seja mais convincente do que a encontrada em “Ciência e Saúde com chave das escrituras”, da Sra. Eddy (p. 228), onde ela diz: “não há poder à parte de Deus. “Deus fez tudo o que foi feito; e fez bem; portanto, só o bem pode vir a seus filhos. O amor nunca criou nada que pudesse prejudicar uma ideia de sua criação. Não há nada a temer, pois o amor está sempre presente e, portanto, na realidade, não há outra presença ou poder. Deus conhece o homem como o criou, perfeito, feliz, harmonioso; e na verdade o homem conhece a si mesmo apenas como Deus o conhece.

Foi-nos dito em Provérbios 1:33: “Mas o que me der ouvidos habitará em segurança e estará descansado do temor do mal”; e quando ouvirmos apenas a voz da verdade, que fala da onipotência e onipresença do Amor Divino, ficaremos quietos e satisfeitos na compreensão de Deus como amor. Se alguém parece sentir necessidade financeira ou física, que perceba com bastante clareza que Deus reina supremo sobre todos, e encontrará a necessidade suprida. O direito de primogenitura do homem é o domínio; e o domínio é seu para sempre.

Neste momento, quando tanto se fala de falta de cargos, de falta de oferta, de falta de saúde, devemos reconhecer que é a falta de compreensão de Deus—do amor divino—que limita. O que mais precisamos é amar mais, saber mais sobre Deus e Sua infinita bondade, e demonstrar nossa unidade com Ele, como a Ciência Cristã nos ensina a fazer. Ao nos esforçarmos para conhecer a Deus, descobriremos que todas as nossas necessidades humanas estão sendo atendidas com abundância. A Bíblia diz: “Buscai primeiro o reino de Deus, e a sua justiça; e todas estas coisas vos serão acrescentadas.”Muitas vezes buscamos primeiro as coisas materiais e por último o reino de Deus; mas esse processo nunca é bem-sucedido. Pode parecer dar certo por um tempo; mas logo descobrimos que as coisas com as quais pensamos nos importar tanto se tornam sem valor, os amigos nos abandonam e paramos em nosso desânimo e nos voltamos para Deus com um desejo sincero de conhecê-lo. É então que sentimos aquele amor inesgotável de Deus que cura e salva. Assim, o homem se encontra circundado, cercado, aninhado no amor materno, que é Deus.

“Pois o amor de Deus é mais amplo

Do que é visto pela mente humana,

E o coração do Eterno

É maravilhosamente gentil.”

The Love of God

The writer has often been greatly impressed by seeing the untiring, unselfish love of a mother for her child—that mother-love which tries so earnestly to guide and protect her children. Then the writer has paused to realize how this love may open one’s thought to the love of God. The mother holds her child tight in her arms; but closer still does God hold His children, perfect in His inexhaustible love. In the book of Acts we read, “In him we live, and move, and have our being;” and, because God is Love, the real man must, therefore, live and act in the realm of Love, and be conscious only of its presence; for evil can never be present where Love is.

Every one knows how the tiny chick is snuggled into its little shell, and how impossible it would be for it to be hurt or even touched unless the shell, which surrounds and protects it, were first destroyed. As completely as the chick is surrounded by the shell, just so completely, but infinitely more securely, are God’s children contained in and protected by divine Love; and no evil can touch them. A human mother would not let her child be sick, unhappy, or in need of anything which she could supply; and, yet, it is believed by many that God permits all these things to happen to His children.

Surely, such a conclusion should be seen as most unreasonable. In Romans we are told that nothing can separate man from the love of God; and, since this is true, we cannot be deprived of the health, wealth, wisdom, freedom, and joy which are in and of God. There is never a time when man cannot rejoice in God’s loving care; for God has given His children “richly all things to enjoy.” Christian Science emphasizes this beautiful message by giving us many more good reasons why we may fearlessly enjoy existence; and, perhaps, none is more convincing than that to be found in “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mrs. Eddy (p. 228), where she says: “There is no power apart from God.” God made everything that was made; and He made it good; therefore, good only can come to His children. Love never created aught that could harm an idea of its creation. There is nothing to fear, since Love is ever present, and there is therefore in reality no other presence or power. God knows man as He created him, perfect, happy, harmonious; and in Truth man knows himself only as God knows him.

We are told in Proverbs, “Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil;” and when we listen only to the voice of Truth, which tells of the omnipotence and omnipresence of divine Love, we shall be quiet and satisfied in the understanding of God as Love. If any one seems to feel financial or physical need, let him realize clearly enough that God reigns supreme over all, and he will find the need met. Man’s birthright is dominion; and dominion is his forever.

At this time, when so much is said about lack of positions, lack of supply, lack of health, we ought to recognize that it is a lack of the understanding of God—of divine Love—which limits. What we need most is to love more, to know more about God and His infinite goodness, and to demonstrate our unity therewith, as Christian Science teaches us to do. As we strive to know God, we shall find that all our human needs are being met with an abundance. The Bible says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Too often we seek the material things first and the kingdom of God last; but this process is never successful. It may seem to work out all right for a while; but soon we find the things we think we care so much about become valueless, friends forsake, and we stop in our discouragement and turn to God with a sincere desire to know Him. It is then we feel that inexhaustible love of God which heals and saves. Thus, man is found encircled, surrounded, nestled in the Mother Love, which is God.

“For the love of God is broader

Than is seen by human mind,

And the heart of the Eternal

Is most wonderfully kind.”
