O Templo do Amor

Ao lermos o Evangelho de São João, não podemos deixar de perceber que a missão de Jesus era mostrar aos mortais o verdadeiro homem — aquele eu que jamais pode ser separado de seu Criador — e somos fortemente impactados pela ousadia e persistência com que ele se declara o Filho de Deus. Ele nos diz: “Eu nada posso fazer de mim mesmo”, e em outro momento afirma: “O Filho nada pode fazer de si mesmo, senão o que vir o Pai fazer; porque tudo quanto ele faz, o Filho faz igualmente”.

Repetidamente, encontramos Jesus declarando sua unidade com o Pai, como se quisesse imprimi-la mais profundamente na mente das pessoas. Ele veio para mostrar aos pecadores o caminho para fora deste mundo de sofrimento e maldade, realizando a sua própria salvação, provando assim a todos que o homem espiritual, feito à imagem e semelhança de Deus, pode se manifestar neste estado presente de existência. Jesus é o nosso exemplo, o modelo que todos devemos seguir se quisermos alcançar o mesmo objetivo. Ele apontou o caminho, e não podemos construir sobre nenhum outro plano, mas devemos construir cuidadosamente com os mesmos materiais e sobre o mesmo fundamento, para que tenhamos um Templo puro, e que o Amor possa habitar nele. Então, Jesus construiu o seu templo sobre um fundamento espiritual de Verdade e Amor, que se provou uma rocha no reino espiritual que todo o ódio e malícia do mundo jamais poderiam derrubar. Esta rocha sobre a qual ele ergueu o seu “santuário do Amor” (Ciência e Saúde, p. 586), à cuja sombra sempre habitou e de cujo cume nunca desceu, era a Verdade do seu Ser, a sua coexistência com o Pai, de cuja onipresença e poder ele nunca deixou de ter consciência. Foi essa verdadeira consciência de sua filiação divina que estabeleceu uma distância tão grande entre Jesus e seus companheiros, pois enquanto eles buscavam na matéria a vida e a substância, seu olhar estava fixo no Espírito, sua fonte inesgotável e única — o Amor Imortal.

Então, essa compreensão espiritual avançada tornou Jesus consciente do grande abismo que existia entre ele e a humanidade em geral, e assim suscitou a ordem dirigida àqueles que desejavam ser seus discípulos: “Saiam do meio deles e separem-se”. Contudo, vemos que ele não pretendia que isso fosse cumprido em seu sentido literal, pois se assim fosse, não o teriam encontrado trabalhando na carpintaria, nem mais tarde, ensinando e curando a multidão, provando, assim, que essas palavras deveriam ser cumpridas em espírito.

Isso torna a declaração ainda mais importante para nós, pois descobrimos que precisamos aprender qual é a nossa verdadeira identidade antes de podermos nos separar, em consciência, das crenças errôneas do mundo. Jesus sempre se esforçou para direcionar o olhar do homem para a Luz, para elevar o pensamento acima da matéria e de seus arredores, para o reino do Espírito, onde o Amor divino é o Pai e a Mãe de todos. Ele veio trazendo esta alegre mensagem de liberdade a um mundo que aguardava, provando, por meio de sua vida de Amor e demonstração de Poder, que aquilo que os mortais buscavam e esperavam em um futuro distante era uma possibilidade presente. Assim, Ele trabalhou para mostrar à humanidade o homem perfeito, criado à imagem e semelhança de Deus, para que todos os que desejassem pudessem ascender a uma nova Vida e reconhecer sua filiação divina.

Mil e novecentos anos se passaram desde que esta maravilhosa revelação do direito de primogenitura espiritual do homem foi mostrada ao mundo, que ainda continua a dormir e a sonhar acordado, sob a ilusão de que o homem deve sofrer, pecar e morrer, indefeso e caído, separado de Deus. Mas outro mensageiro de Deus veio e, mais uma vez, trouxe à luz as joias escondidas de um cristianismo puro, a saber: o relacionamento espiritual do homem e a coexistência com o Pai como uma realidade presente, mostrando assim a falsidade das teorias humanas sobre o homem caído e um céu distante. E novamente a preciosa palavra de Deus é rejeitada por muitos que não querem deixar a Luz entrar, com medo de que ela ilumine as trevas de suas crenças atuais e, perturbando sua consciência interior, os desperte para uma nova vida. Mas não seria mais sábio calcular o custo de rejeitar esta Verdade de Cristo, que hoje bate à porta da consciência de cada homem, buscando admissão e desejando permanecer com Ele? Mas descobrimos que nossos desejos só são atendidos quando oramos com a plena certeza da fé, como Jesus nos ensinou.

Então, não façamos mais concessões, mas abramos nossos corações a Deus sem medo, deixando que o calor do Amor divino dissolva tudo o que nos é diferente, e encontraremos todas as promessas cumpridas em nós, até mesmo as palavras do amado apóstolo: “Mas, a todos quantos o receberam, deu-lhes o poder de se tornarem filhos de Deus, a saber, aos que creem no seu nome; os quais não nasceram do sangue, nem da vontade da carne, nem da vontade do homem, mas de Deus.” Portanto, não precisamos mais nos considerar caídos e pecadores, mas reivindicar nossa herança legítima e única, como filhos livres de Deus. Que o pleno esplendor de Cristo ressuscitado resplandeça em nossos corações, iluminando cada sombra escura com as cores do arco-íris do Amor, e nas palavras de São Barnabé: “Tornemo-nos espirituais, um templo perfeito para Deus”.

Love’s Temple

In reading the gospel of St. John we cannot fail to see that the mission of Jesus was to show mortals the true man,—that self which can never be separated from its Creator,—and we are forcibly struck with the boldness and persistency with which he declares himself to be the son of God. He tells us, “I can of mine own self do nothing,” and at another time he makes this statement: “The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things so ever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.”

Over and over again we find him declaring his unity with the Father, as if to impress it more deeply in the minds of the people. He came to show sinners the way out of this world of sorrow and wickedness, by working out his own salvation, thus proving to all that the spiritual man, made in God’s image and likeness, can be made manifest in this present state of existence. Jesus is our example, he is the pattern we must all follow if we would reach the same goal. He has pointed out the way, and we cannot build on any other plan, but must carefully construct with the same materials and on the same foundation, that we may have a pure Temple, and that Love may abide therein. Now Jesus built his temple on a spiritual foundation of Truth and Love, which proved a rock in the spiritual kingdom that all the world’s hatred and malice could never overthrow. This rock on which he erected his “shrine of Love” (Science and Health, p. 586), in whose shadow he always dwelt, and from whose summit he never descended, was the Truth of his Being, his coexistence with the Father, of whose omnipresence and power he never ceased to be conscious. It was this true sense of his divine sonship, that placed such a distance between Jesus and his companions, for while they were looking to matter for life and substance, his gaze was fixed on Spirit, his never-failing and only supply—Immortal Love.

Now this advanced spiritual understanding made Jesus conscious of a great gulf existing between himself and mankind in general, and so elicited the command addressed to those who desired to be his disciples, “Come out from among them, and be ye separate.” Yet we see that he did not mean this to be carried out in its literal sense, for had he so intended, he would not have been found at work in the carpenter’s shop, nor later on, teaching and healing the multitude, thus proving that these words were to be fulfilled in mind.

This makes the statement of more importance to us, for we find we have to learn what our true identity is, before we can separate ourselves in consciousness, from the erroneous beliefs of the world. Jesus was ever striving to turn man’s gaze towards the Light, to lift the thought above matter and its environments into the realm of Spirit, where divine Love is the Father and Mother of all. He had come bearing this joyful message of freedom to a waiting world, proving by his life of Love and demonstration of Power that that which mortals looked and hoped for in a far-off future, was a present possibility. Thus he labored to show mankind the perfect man, created in God’s image and likeness, so that all who desired might rise into newness of Life and recognize their divine sonship.

Nineteen hundred years have passed since this wonderful revelation of man’s spiritual birthright was shown to the world, which still continues to sleep and dream away the hours under the delusion that man must suffer, sin, and die, helpless and fallen, apart from God. But another messenger from God has come and once more brought to light the hidden gems of a pure Christianity, viz.: man’s spiritual relationship and co-existence with the Father as a present reality, thus showing the falsity of human theories of fallen man, and a far-off heaven. And again God’s precious word is rejected by many who care not to let in the Light lest it should illumine the darkness of their present beliefs, and disturbing their inner consciousness, rouse them to a new life. But would it not be wiser to count the cost of rejecting this Christ-Truth, which stands knocking at the door of every man’s consciousness to-day, seeking admission and desiring to abide with him? but we find our desires are only granted when we pray in the full assurance of faith, as Jesus taught us.

Then let us compromise no longer, but fearlessly open our hearts to God, thus letting the warmth of divine Love melt away all that is unlike itself, and we shall find all promises fulfilled in us, even to the words of the beloved apostle: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” So we need no more think of ourselves as fallen and sinning, but claim our rightful and only inheritance, as free born children of God; that the full radiance of the risen Christ may shine in our hearts, lighting up each dark shadow with Love’s rainbow hues, and in the words of St. Barnabas, “Let us become spiritual, a perfect temple to God.”
