Onde encontramos Deus? Exatamente onde Elias o encontrou, na voz mansa e delicada que reside no fundo de nossos corações. É ali que o desejo correto se manifesta, é ali que sentimos os impulsos da Verdade e do Amor, a mão guia de Deus, que nos afastaria do mal e do ódio, do pecado e da doença, se tão somente a ouvíssemos e a obedecêssemos. É ali, invisível e inaudível para o mundo, que o egoísmo mortal, o orgulho, o medo e toda a mentalidade equivocada devem ser colocados no altar do sacrifício.

Nossa relação com Deus se revela quando compreendemos, com Paulo, que é Deus quem opera em nós, quem governa nossos pensamentos, “o querer e o realizar segundo a sua boa vontade” (Filipenses 2:13). [pois é Deus quem produz em vós tanto o querer como o realizar, de cordo com sua boa vontade.]

Certamente, a atividade da Mente que é Deus está mais evidente do que nunca na consciência dos homens e das nações. Que outra Mente, senão esta, poderia unir mais de quarenta nações em um esforço cooperativo para o bem do mundo, realizar a Conferência de Washington com seus resultados de longo alcance e estabelecer um tribunal internacional de justiça onde as disputas entre as nações possam ser resolvidas e o direito internacional seja mais plenamente harmonizado com as leis universais de Deus?

Conta-se a história de um menino de rua que, um dia, viu uma senhora idosa cuidando de uma carroça de maçãs na esquina. Um pensamento maligno sussurrou-lhe: “Você pode roubar uma maçã sem ser pego”, e ele o fez. No dia seguinte, passou por ali novamente e, mais uma vez, um pensamento maligno lhe disse: “Você não foi pego ontem, roube outra maçã hoje”, mas outra voz lhe disse: “O que você fez ontem não foi certo. Não faça isso de novo”. Ele ouviu essa voz e seguiu seu caminho. No terceiro dia, ao passar por ali e ver a senhora idosa com sua carroça de maçãs, um pensamento de bondade lhe veio ao coração e a voz suave, imperceptível ao mundo, disse: “Por que não fazer algo para ajudá-la hoje?”. Ele ouviu e, feliz, obedeceu. Ao cair da noite, levou a carroça de maçãs até a humilde casa dela, e seu coração de menino se encheu de alegria por ter praticado um ato altruísta e por ter ouvido a voz de Deus.

Nosso Deus Pai-Mãe está igualmente próximo de cada um de nós. Quão claramente a Mente primordial nos fala da proximidade de Cristo, a Verdade, nas palavras inspiradas de João: “Eis que estou à porta e bato; se alguém ouvir a minha voz e abrir a porta, entrarei em sua casa e ceiarei com ele, e ele comigo.” (Apocalipse 3:20).

Where do we find God? Right where Elijah did, in the still small voice deep down in our hearts. It is here that right desire speaks, it is here that we feel the promptings of Truth and Love, the guiding hand of God, that would turn us from evil and hate, from sin and disease, would we but listen and obey. It is right there unseen and unheard by the world, that mortal selfishness, pride, fear and all wrong-mindedness must be placed on the altar of sacrifice. Our relation to God is discerned when we see with Paul that it is God who worketh in us, that governs our thinking, “to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Phil. 2, 13). Surely the activity of the Mind that is God is more apparent than ever before in the consciousness of men and nations. What but this Mind could league together more than two score nations in co-operative endeavor for the world’s good, bring about the Washington Conference with its far-reaching results, and establish an international court of justice where the disputes of nations may be settled and international law be brought more fully into accord with the universal laws of God.

The story is told of a street urchin who one day noticed an aged woman tending an apple cart on the street corner. An evil thought whispered to him, “You can steal an apple without being caught,” and he did so. The next day he passed that way again and again an evil thought said, “You did not get caught yesterday, steal another apple today,” but another voice said, “What you did yesterday was not right. Do not do it again.” He listened to this voice and went his way. The third day he came that way and when he saw the aged apple woman a thought of kindness came into his heart and the still small voice, unheard by the world said, “Why not do something that will help her today.” He listened and was glad to obey. When evening came, he wheeled her apple cart to her humble home, and his boyish heart was filled with joy for he had done an unselfish act and listened to the voice of God. Our Father-Mother God is just as near to every one of us. How clearly the parent Mind tells us of the nearness of Christ, Truth in the inspired words of John, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Rev. 3, 20).
