Por que vivemos com medo?

Como seriam nossas vidas se fôssemos absolutamente livres do medo, medo por nós mesmos e, pior ainda, para todos nós que não somos totalmente egoístas, medo por aqueles que nos são mais queridos?

Temos plena consciência de quão completamente estamos sujeitos a esse jugo de escravidão, ou a essa lei do medo?

Só quando compreendemos a gloriosa Verdade, conforme apresentada na Ciência Cristã, é que percebemos que esse pesado fardo pode ser aliviado, que não precisamos ser escravos abjetos de um suposto poder, um tirano temido, embora invisível, que nos rouba toda a sensação de paz e liberdade. A maioria de nós, sem dúvida, já leu a Bíblia, em maior ou menor grau.

Compreendemos plenamente o glorioso fato de que Jesus Cristo veio para nos libertar? “Liberar da lei do pecado e da morte”, que é a lei do medo. Portanto, não estamos mais sob a condenação da lei. O que isso significa? Será que se refere apenas à antiga lei mosaica, que, no que diz respeito a ritos e cerimônias, destinada somente aos judeus, que foi abolida há muito tempo? Então, no que implica essa liberdade? Temos desfrutado dela durante todos esses séculos da era cristã?

Vejamos o que é que tememos: três inimigos terríveis na percepção humana: o pecado, a doença e a morte. Por que estamos sujeitos aos temores que esse trio traz consigo, ou melhor, prenunciam-se por si, a ponto da atmosfera parecer carregada com seu veneno? Será a lei de Deus? Será que Deus, a quem todos reconhecemos como Infinita Bondade e de “olhos puros demais para contemplar a iniquidade”[Hab. 1:13], criou esses males? Então Ele deve ser menos que Infinito, menos que Onipotente, porque então deve haver outro poder, e esse, maligno. Mas graças a Deus, “que nos dá a vitória por meio de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo”[1Corintians 15:57], não é assim.

A lei do pecado e da morte entrou no mundo por meio da falsa percepção material, percepção essa que o homem tem de sua própria origem, de seu verdadeiro direito de primogenitura. Fomos feitos “à imagem e semelhança de Deus”. Como então devemos entender isso? Será que este corpo material que vemos, carne, sangue e ossos, maravilhosamente criado como é, representa nossa mais alta concepção de semelhança com um Deus que é um Ser infinito, incorpóreo, onipresente e onipotente? Todos, após refletirem, responderiam: Não! Então, como fomos feitos “à sua imagem e semelhança”? Ele não é Espírito? Então somos seus filhos espiritualmente, não materialmente, e se assim for, não seria espirito a nossa verdadeira natureza?

Chegando neste ponto de vista, veja como as inconsistências desaparecem. Se fomos criados espirituais, também fomos criados perfeitos, pois toda a criação espiritual de Deus deve ter sido feita como Ele, perfeita. Portanto, não estamos sujeitos à lei do pecado e da morte, que, sendo má, não é a lei de Deus e não veio ao mundo pela criação de Deus, mas pela falsa crença do homem.

Então, por que permanecer nesta escravidão? Por que não reivindicar nossa gloriosa herança como “herdeiros de Deus e co-herdeiros com Cristo” [Romanos 8:17], seguindo os passos do Mestre, conforme nos ensina a Ciência Cristã, afirmando nossa liberdade como filhos de Deus e, assim, alcançando aquela bendita “paz que excede todo o entendimento” [Fil 4:7[, que provém da compreensão, em seu pleno significado, da Verdade de que “Deus é Amor” e que “o perfeito amor expulsa o medo”? [1João 4:18]

Em resposta a diversas perguntas, afirmamos que todos podem ter certeza de que todas as medidas preliminares necessárias, de acordo com as circunstâncias, estão sendo tomadas com relação à construção da Igreja Mãe.

Why Do We Live In Fear

What would our lives be if we were absolutely free from fear, fear for ourselves, and what is worse still, for all of us who are not wholly selfish, fear for those dearest to us? Are we fully conscious how utterly we are under subjection to this yoke of bondage, this law of fear?

Not till we apprehend the glorious Truth as set forth in Christian Science do we realize that this heavy burden can be lifted, that it is not necessary for us to be the abject slaves of a supposed power, a dreaded, though unseen, tyrant who robs us of all sense of rest and freedom. We have most of us doubtless been more or less readers of the Bible. Do we realize fully the glorious fact that Jesus the Christ came to make us free? “free from the law of sin and death,” which is the law of fear. Therefore we are no longer under the condemnation of the law. What does this mean? Does it refer to the old Mosaic law alone, which as regards rites and ceremonies, meant only for the Jews, was done away with long ago? Then what does this freedom imply? Have we been in the enjoyment of it all these centuries of the Christian era?

Let us see what it is that we fear: Three ghastly enemies to human sense, Sin, sickness and death. Why are we subject to the fears this trio bring in their train, nay, send before them till the atmosphere seems charged with their poison? Is it by God’s law? Did God, whom we all acknowledge as Infinite Goodness, and of “purer eyes than to behold iniquity,”Hab, 1:17 create these evils? Then He must be less than Infinite, less than Omnipotent, because there must then be another power and that an evil one. But thanks be to God “who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ,” 1Corinthians 15:57 this is not so.

The law of sin and death came into the world through man’s false and material sense of his own origin, of his true birthright. We are made “in the image and likeness of God.” How shall we understand this? Is this material body which we see, flesh, blood and bones, marvellously made as it is, our highest conception of likeness to a God who is infinite, incorporeal Being, everpresent and omnipotent? Every one would on reflection, answer, No! Then how are we made “in his image and likeness”? Is He not Spirit? Then we are his children spiritually, not materially, and if so is not the spiritual our real nature?

Having reached this standpoint, see how the inconsistencies vanish. If we were created spiritual we were also created perfect, for all in God’s spiritual creation must have been perfect like himself. Therefore we are not subject to the law of sin and death, which, being evil, is not God’s law and which did not come into the world by God’s creation, but by man’s false belief.

Then why stay in this bondage? Why not claim our glorious birthright as heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ” Romans 8:17 by following in the Master’s footsteps as the understanding of Christian Science teaches us, by asserting our freedom as God’s children, and so realizing that blessed “peace which passeth understanding” Phil 4:7 which comes from the apprehension, in its full meaning, of the Truth that “God is Love,” and that “perfect Love casteth out fear.” 1John 4:18

In answer to various inquiries we will say, the field can rest assured that all preliminary steps warranted by the situation, are being taken with reference to the erection of the Mother Church.

Let all do their part Scientifically in the direction of its early commencement and speedy completion, and it will be accomplished.
